  • and i stand by my original entry, by the way. the cbc produced video was played at wembley hours before the cars took the stage in philly. but, well. somepeople can't get off if they don't call people names

  • beautiful song nonethless, the unnecesary insult notwithstanding.

  • I loved my MTV (and MuchMusic too!)

  • @kewlmynd99

lovED is a good way to put it, I don't care what people in my class say, MTV sucks NOW!

  • This video reminds me that all great things come to an end. The Concorde, Ben Orr, MTV (when it was all music all the time), amazing meaningful music, carefree youth

  • MASTERPIECE !!! RIP my loved Ben . I love you forever !!!

  • curiously, this gorgeous song had already been featured during the day before the cars played it.

  • @tonythetigerII stupid idiot, the cars wrote this song!!!!!!!!

  • you,never,brought,me,home,you,never,came,for,i,really,needed,you,i,screamed,let,me,in,never,you,opened,your,door,enz.etc,etc,i,did,all,goods,i,swallowed,all,your,pain,hurts,you,gave,me,you,shooked,me,knock,out,nothing,is,left,of,me,

  • i was fifteen also watched this and mtv was still relevant the cars great band great music know how u feel britishspitfire great comment

  • Could not agree more. If he was still alive, we would all be chasing after him at his concerts. 64 years old wouldn't bother me! I would just be happy to see him.......

  • the face + the voice + the song = instant panty-dropper

  • benjamin orr - what a babe. the best mullet EVER.

  • Yet another great band from Boston!

  • 26 years on,great song from agreat day.sad to think my mum died on same day at 1.15pm.

  • @PETEREM100 what a day 2 go to the big man . RIP sweet lady

  • I played this song in my car and got a lot of hot girls attention loved it.

  • Shure SM57 Microphone = CRAP

  • @darkshadowvamp Well, it's definitely not a crap mic.... but the 58 would've been the better choice for "shure". :D

  • @funkster007 - Those two mics are all hype IMO.. as they say, you get what you pay for.

  • @darkshadowvamp Been using them in pro bands for years bro. Dont know where you get that assessment. There are better quality mics indeed, but Shures are still the affordable standard in recording and live. Quite simply they get the job done. Hype? Hardly.

  • @funkster007 - Well I've always had issues with them distorting way too early when things get louder or more bassy. They always seemed far too flat to me as well. I've never been able to figure out the whole fascination with using them on distorted guitar either cuz they've always sounded like total sh*t to me. Maybe it's the preamp you've used them with. I've tried everything and never found anything useful. They seem like more of joke than anything else.

  • @darkshadowvamp I just use the 57 for recording mainly nowdays, but I agree they really are more effective through a good PA for live. Guess I just never had issues with them personally. I use one of my band mate's Sennheisers now and it's pretty clean sounding. As far as the vocals, I'd rather use the 58.

  • The beginning of the 00s was the end of good music for the most part. The 90s gave us a lot of good pop music, a lot of good alternative rock and metal bands, R&B when it meant something like Boys 2 Men, and euro pop dance music. It was the 00s that gave us emo, generic rap and hip hop, and pop music without any soul.

  • The 80's is my favorite decade in entertainment. Superb music, Superb movies and okay, some bad hair and clothing choices, but beyond that it will always have a place in my heart. LOL

  • r i p ben

  • I was two, the sounds of my childhood.

  • Fabulous decade. So grateful I was a part of it.

  • its a shit business

  • @Tamrons youre fucking nutz....90's Grunge was the beginning of shit in everyway all the way up to now....

  • @flippyflyer Music applies itself to the circumstances of a generation. 90's Grunge gave us Nirvana, Sound Garden and Suicidal Tendencies. If you hate those bands, I respect that.

  • @Tamrons youre fucking crazy...90's sucked, begining of the end....rudeness, cynicism and ugly wool clothes....unless you a person is a fucking hippie, then these are the best times, where people dont have to work and just wait for a paycheck from uncle sam...

  • I'm lucky to have lived through the ENTIRE 1980's, I was born Jan 14, 1974. The 80's were essentially the years I went to school. Back to the Future was released when this concert happened. July 1985. Then, in the fall of 1985 a famous home video game was released in the US, the Nintendo Entertainment System.

  • if i could go back i would!

  • People here don´t really miss the 80`s, they miss their childhood, or their youth, long gone. The 80`s were not better or worse than the 50's, 60`s, 70`s or 90`s. It`s all in your heads.

Ah well. The 80`s were my childhood and of course I have very fond memories of this music

  • @ElFrankus Agreed. I believe in a couple of years we'll be talking the same about now. It doesn't matter 80's, 90's, 50's or even 20's Life is full of engrams stored inside one's brain. The 80's, 90's numbers are just like pointers to arrays that dereference factual events and if pointers in your brain were lost than you will not be able to dereference them, yet events are still there. I have already experienced a comparable "great" times. It is just roughly called "Regression toward the mean".

  • @ElFrankus Everyone should agree on this if nothing else.We are generation X, The first and only generation to have such freedom when it came to music in general. No other generation in the history of the world had so many choices of music style's to enjoy, And i feel proud that I was part of it .This generation of so called music artists will never do anything like this for the world. They could careless of anything except for the money there making off are kids. I hope they prove me wrong.

  • @anonymousent I'm in...

  • The Concorde is now gone as is the UK's and US ' pride, how sad , these nations once great superpowers are in a dumbing down. I dont think I'll ever in my lifetime see Space shuttles or engineering marvels as the Supersonic Jet . We are sleeping and eating our seedcorn at the end we'll find out that globalization will not work for us.

  • @profetaparaMexico I agree!

  • Why are you on this page then if you dont like Ben Orr and the CARS?

  • Stop!!!!!

    I will stay here = 80's

  • How many of us right now, wish we were back then...those times, that innocence...when life was as important as the songs we listened to. With times these days, I cry when I remember how simple and pure things were when I first heard this...at the age of SEVEN...hahaha

  • @ron042704 I feel the same, but I was 15, and had a MAJOR crush on Ben!!! May he rest in peace xx

  • Ohh nooooooooooooo. Beta.

    - Snake

  • Isn't it a bit suspicious that a band called The Cars has a bit hit with a song called "Who's gonna drive you home?" Kind of a self-fulfilling answer, right? Like a song called "Who's gonna quench your thirst" by The Gatorades

  • @atomicbolt Yes, but they also had a hit called "Cruiser".....check it out.....it's a GOODY!!!

  • @atomicbolt Its called "Drive" its in the title.

  • @atomicbolt The song isn't called "Who's gonna drive you home?", It's called "Drive". That last part of what you said about the Gatorades "Who's gonna quench your thirst?", that was hilarious! Imagine Ben and the guys standing up there with Gatorade tee's and hats on.lol Completey selling out for product placement.lol I'd be like damn, I am kinda thirsty, better go get a Gatorade!lol

  • Remember when MTV was still relevant?

  • He is the epitome of beauty. He is perfect, right there, at that time. The height of male beauty and perfect youth. I will have this song played at my funeral. It is one of my 'life tracks;.

  • he was a great one

  • where,s the video ov etheopia famine,,its been stopped or removed,,,when its all happening again

  • I remember Live Aid, I was there.

  • Kids don't know real music these days!!! This was when each sound was made by a different band member coming together to make a masterpiece...not one dude editing and adding pre-made sounds!!!

  • Where's the video they showed repeatedly that day, featuring this song? If I saw that now, I would send even more money to Ethiopia tomorrow. Why block it, for fucking hell's sake? Show it on youtube, you record label cunts - we gave our life savings to save those people in 1985, and now we can't see the video we loved cos it made us all cry and hand over our spondoolicks? (Not me, but lots of folks did.)

  • why have fucking emi records blocked the live aid version ov this classic tune,,,for fucking money off itunes the greedy ,,,,,,,makes me so mad,,,

  • why have fucking emi records blocked the live aid version ov this classic tune,,,

  • The 80's had some of the greatest music but the worst fashion ever! Looking back I'm glad I grew up in that era.

  • @thehotfive

Eggs are RELEASED monthly- not made.

  • @instuller: I stand corrected.

  • It's odd to see Ric on the keyboards, too. It is hard to see him because the camera is focused on Ben (obviously). But if you pay close attention, a few shots have Ric in a polkadot shirt playing keyboards in front of Greg.

  • he had the same birthday like me, just 35 older!

  • I never saw Ric Ocasek in this video, I think he was on the shitter. Love ya Ben.

  • My favorite singer and group of all time--miss you Ben. But- its:

"Who's gonna pick you up When you fall Who's gonna hang it up When you call"

Look at 1:36 when he laughs and brushes someone a "shutup leave me alone" gesture behind him because he knows lol.

  • Ben is too cooL

  • I thought that the Cars were the best act at Live Aid on this side of the pond, and Queen the best act in Wembley, and both acts played in the middle of the afternoon. How cool is that?

  • Such a sad song, but it kicks ass!

  • Damn .... I GOTTA GET IN THE GARAGE AND FIX THAT FLUX CAPACITOR ON THAT FREAKIN' DELORIAN SO I CAN GET IT UP TO 88 MPH & GET MY AZZ BACK TO THE 80s !!! .... Where life was sweet, times were good, & great tunes like this one were made .... I'M TAKIN' EVERYONE THAT WANNA GO BACK & NEVER COME BACK WITH ME !!

  • @anonymousent Might want to make sure you are looking at the 80's through the right perspective. I agree that they wwwwwwwweeeeeeeerreee the best! But that was through the eyes of a child....just think about it.

  • @popejeffthefirst

I was far from a child and it was a GREAT decade! As you can see....

  • @jrlv62 So you were also on crack. ;)

  • @anonymousent Drop me off in 1969 and I'll see you in 16 years!!!!!!

  • @TruthAxe Ha! Ha! ..... You only wished he was....Jealous???

  • Terrific song - I just don't think Greg had enough keyboards back there =)

  • Brings back such melancholy memories.

In '89 I threw my druggie gf out of the car at a truck-stop to catch a ride with her prostitute "Johns" that would surely be dumping her off somewhere too in due time. I hope she overdosed and died eventually, 'cause it was her only avenue to Peace evidently.

  • Benjamin...The Star

  • Ben Orr - A true talent. Taken from us way too early. Cancer is lame.

  • I was at LIVE AID. By the time The Cars came on, I was laying down in an abandon locker room, someone forgot to lock up, suffering from heat-stroke, or something close to it! What surprised me was how great the sound was, coming into that room. The Cars sounded great! Went a long way helping me to recover and go back for my 2nd round. I physical drain but a great time as well!

Wish I was out there to see them play but it just wasn't happening!

  • @MalcolmXcrement Brings back such melancholy memories.

  • i know that he's dead already but in my mind benjamin orr is so much alive......he was really sooooo sublimely beautiful...............

  • one of the best tunes of the 80's right here...great cars tune...my opinion...the cars were very underrated they had some huge hits...

  • ben, please marry me!!!! love you so!!!

  • @jazzjois Benjamin Orr is dead a 3 october 2000...

    RIP

  • That´s a great performance of a great song!

  • yes yes yes.

  • I miss Freddie Mercury and Ben the most, what talent they had.

  • Live Aid was created to fight against misery in the world ... and Phil Collins took the veeeeeeery expensive Concorde to come.

Pffff what an unrespectful symbole !

  • @kalisteboat Don't forget, he was facing two time zones and not a lot of time to get from one gig to the next. Yes, it did promote Phil's career indirectly, but he did not get a dime from the gigs and paid his own way to get there!

  • @kalisteboat DID ANY ARTIST'S GET PAID??? i...

  • Truly one of the greatest singers lost. Forever the best. RIP Ben.

  • All the good, beautiful ones die. This world can suck at times.

  • still missin Ben !!!!

  • Phil collins that's one hell of a way to arrive....via the retired Concord. You rock my friend!

  • this sucks i found this footage and thought oh i own the live aid dvd let me look for it, that when i discovered this song is not on it WTF!!! so what else was edited out of the dvd!!!???

  • @oschvelez Shit, you're right. I've got the 4 disc set & thought it would def. be on it; still, we're lucky there's any of it left, as it says in the booklet: 'for reasons of legal expediency, Geldof was adament that the concert should not even be recorded, let alone shown again...some BBC tapes were destroyed or missing...producers of US concert had delib. disabled their footage" The saviours of the US footage was MTV "who had over 100 tapes of live aid b-roll footage"

  • insuperable , gracias benjamin por dejarnos tu talento. tu voz.

  • awesome song!!!!

  • Omg I had no idea the Cars sand this song!

  • Thank you, Tears came to me.

  • I read on his legacy website that this was written about the breakup of his relationship with Valerie Bertinelli when she left him for Eddie Van Halen . Imagine how many women wanted to take her place? Sigh...........

  • he is breath taking gorgeous!

  • @ladybluluv he was great, I love that song, they were a great band and he was a huge loss, and you gotta know he did ok with the women.

  • He left nicer things for this planet than so many who live an entire lifetime.

    Benjamin Orr - Is Remembered

  • gone2soon

  • Yes, Ben died from pancreatic cancer and not liver cancer. It's like the deadliest form of cancer. There really needs to be some heavy duty research into that and finding cures and help for the poor folks that get that. Seems like there really hasn't been much available to help them. It really breaks my heart. rip Benjamin. You'll always be so loved.

  • To answer your question, republicansrule, Ben Orr died of liver failure in the year 2000...my dear mother died of the same illness in 2002...God Bless...

  • @Kingbub09 Tle primary cancer was panceatic which had already spread to his liver after they had done exploratory surgery the month he was diagnosed. By that time, it was considered inoperable. Unfortunately, that's why it's such a wicked cancer. There's no symptoms till it's already spread elsewhere. So, yes, liver failure was the ending result of the pancreatic cancer.

  • what did he die of?

  • @republicansrule

pancreatic cancer, like patrick swayze. diagnosed in march, died in sept. 95% die within 12 months.

  • poor Ben - he had a splendid voice

  • the cars makes me think of the beatles: ben and rick balanced each other. i saw them live, my first concert. I love r.e,m. and cannot think about a similarity in the stream of conciousness style. Both are comforting.

  • He sang better than Ric Ocasek

  • rip sir

  • great song

  • They performed a great set here

  • Great addition to YouTube, and great to see this.

Ben was simply an awesome singer.

    Thanks for posting it. :)

  • This is simply divine. Thanks Ben!

  • I really liked their older stuff better, but they had some really great ones later on like this one here. Overall, I didn't like much of the electronic keyboard sound that every 80's band used (but the Cars used it best)..it was overdone. The electronic drums sound I disliked even more..I just like a more organic sound. I did though, really like the more synthesizer type sounds that they used in their earlier songs like in 'Moving in Stereo' and 'I'm in Touch with your World'.

  • wow, it's amazing to see the video starting with the concorde landing at jfk. They did such a futuristic thing 25 years ago, taking the concorde to play in the same concert on the other side of the ocean.

  • Beautiful Ben...so sad..80s men always seemed to have blond, beachy, sunny tousled hair and sharp suits! Smokin! I wish i'd have been a teen in the 80s!! the guys were amazingly hot!

  • On this day my grandfather died and I already left Boston due to everything going wrong and falling apart. It was a real sad time and I was miserable. The thing that kept a light in my heart was that I happened to meet Ben briefly off tour about 1 1/2 months before this 'Live Aide' show and my last day in Boston, and basically shared some nice eye contact and a smile and it meant so much to me at the time and still does because he was my fav man back then ..you could say..to an extreme.

  • this song always got me misty eyed

Benjamin was a special man and talent. I cried and cried when I heard of his passing and my heart still breaks when I think of it. I felt in love with him for some time back then and he will ALWAYS continue to be in my heart.
