That 1st album has to be somewhere amoung the top 25 debut albums of all time. Just the way Chrissie Phrased things was so great. Ah but those were the days when music was still fresh & original. Played by real musicians and heard on Radio that was just as real, vibrant, & relative. Unlike today.
Had tix to see The Pretenders in a dive club in Seattle in the early 80's. Martin Chambers put his hand through a window and couldn't play, so the show was canceled. Shortly thereafter James Honeyman-Scot was dead. I've never gotten over missing that show! The band was just never the same (for me) after that. Pretenders I to this day remains my all time favorite album, this, my favorite song.
you're totally wrong. Out of a career spanning more than 25 years the Pretenders have plenty of songs that will stand the test of time.
Precious, Tattooed Love Boys, The wait, Private Life, Talk of the Town, English Roses, The Adultress, Back on The Chain Gang, Thumbelina, Middle of the Road, Don't get Me Wrong, Room Full Of Mirrors, Criminal, Rebel Rock Me, One More Time, Legalize Me, Human, Time, You know who your friends are, Boots Of Chinese Plastic, Love's A Mystery, Almost Perfect.
were there any songs from this album other than Tattooed Love Boys, Stop Your Sobbing, Kid, or Brass in Pocket that had a music video to go with the song?
yeah i agree. It's amazing how much better the songs "Precious", "Tattooed Love Boys", "The Wait", and this song from their 1980 self titled album are than some of their later songs that were released on their 1987 Singles album
It's because Greatest hits refers to the Singles that were released off the album and this was not a Single.
the only non-single on the greatest hits was "My City Was Gone" but that got famous because rock DJ's would turn over the single for "Back on The Chain Gang" and play "My City Was Gone" leading it to gain fame although it was never released as a single.
Cool, fresh, melodious, original, -all extinct I fear. At least my kids can go back and check out the good stuff like this-thanx for the post!

was their ever a music video for this song?
gutchman84 3 years ago
I'm not aware of one. It probably wasn't in their budget if they wanted to promote "The Wait," "Stop Your Sobbing" or "Brass in Pocket."
