  • Raises the front of trailer enough to reverse in under the trailer. Before you do this reverse, please reapply trailer brake to assist you in connecting securely.

Like I said, extreme cases only. Hope all the health n safety guys are still breathing and not suffering a heart attack!!!!!!!

  • Ok, I'm an owner operator now with my own trailers. I would like to share my little trick, please note.......

"I do this only in extreme cases"

Hopefully there's enough air in it, if not, check trailer brake is applied, then put air in "red line".

    A) chock trailer in either direction

    B) position rig exactly as your vlog shows

    C) release trailer brake

    D) release push to shunt, being ready to reapply the trailer brake !!!!!should it move!!!!!

    E) Lower the air suspension on trailer, in turn thi

  • I guess I am a beast because I will just crank it back up to the right height.

  • MR not me! did it

  • let the tyres down a bit? im sure you've sorted it by now though???? haha

  • you think thats bad you should see some of wincantor linner they leave half a foot between the legs and the ground and just drop the trailer

  • You know what; I know just how you feel!

  • That is a very nice Foden mate! XL's are my favorite models :)

  • im in the us and i would driver it here

  • nice foden mate pity about the Trailer!

  • smart outfit!!

  • Quality truck. They don't make em like that anymore!!

  • Lovely Foden dude.I love the sound of 6 cylinder diesel idling at 500 rpm, best sound in the world. I want to be a lorry driver but I can't due to slightly lazy right eye.

Its nice to see a British lorry alive and kicking and its way better than the foreign lorries such as Scania, DAF, IVECO and volvo. Long live Foden!!

  • NICE FODEN!

  • Worked in the ferry business and this was common sence. Especially with air suspensing. So this a "moan" vid. get a life

  • Great job Mate! Ive had to do the same here in the states with low trailers, It does PISS me off too. some idiot driver drops the trailer WAY too low. and drives away.

  • You could have just brought the trailer up slowly by the landing gear on low ratio!! Even so what a twat for leaving it that low selfish *$£!

  • i don't care what country you live in that is BS the bastered that dropped it should have an ass kickin

  • Go back to bed, pull up the duvet and ring that plonker and tell him to lift it himself

  • Great truck!!! The first truck driving/ class 1 job I had was in an H reg Foden with an Eaton Twin Splitter, ceramic clutch and Rolls Royce/ Perkins Engine. Big learning curve, but a few years later when the boss changed it for a Scania I was gutted.

Plenty of 'plonkers' about on the road though, I guess it all comes down to experience at the end of the day.

  • What a happy chappy we are this morning lol! I feel for this guy tho seen it happen more than once myself and my dad has been on the receiving end of numpties like this!

  • the joys of truck driving LOL

  • whats the neck?

  • lovely trucker banter eh?...lol

  • Nice Foden matey!

  • Thank you, clearly a man with taste.

  • @250Trojan I wish they had those trucks here in America. We have Kenworth, Peterbuilt, Freightliner and Volvo and even the Volvo is american made. COE's like the Foden have become obsolete here in the states and it can be a real nightmare driving in places like New York City. We also have Macks also american made but some are made by Renault.

  • @Psycho9263 Are you serious? Peterbilt is the only truck we should have here in the US, period.

  • if he was half a driver he would screw down the legs at same time !!!!!!!!!!! no wonder the neck is bent ... fukin english i supose cant beet the paddys or a jock lol

  • nice truck??? its a fooking plastic pig do you still get whiplash from the shit suspension and the shit eaton gearboxes i'll stick with my volvo thanks !!

  • dump the bags on the trailer and it will raise it up a bit

  • the guy who dropped this would be an idiot who would unhitch a 10mt with out b trailer n it would be on its nose.

  • wind the legs up?

  • Probabliy to heavy. Why hirt your self?

  • Put the legs in low gear and wind it up with a bit of elbow grease. Lazy fella!!!!

  • @paulderbyshire1919

you jack up nearly 30,000kgs then!

  • @Xantec yea most days mate. Low gear on those legs takes time not effort. Start complaining when you get to australia and have 60000kg. And you would only have 15000kg on the legs as the othe half is over the wheels/tyre.

  • @paulderbyshire1919 thats just what i was thinkin !!!

  • I hate such days..

We also change our trailers a lot..

And my colleges also have no idea how t

  • Don't want to sound like a Know All (well I am, but never mind !)

But if it's an air bag trailer, and the airbags are still up, you can dump the air bags and the nose of the trailer will pivot up a few extra inches.

If it doesn't have a dump valve you'd have to get underneath and disconnect the ride height valve.

  • You sound like a fella who know's the score. Thank's for the tip, but i did that too.

  • Ah ok I thought you'd just dropped the airbags on the tractor : )

  • @foden4405 you can see that with the mudguards touching the tyres lol....and still not low enough .....previous driver must of done a wheelstand with that drop mate lol

  • hey buddy, i seen you drop that trailor the night before so dont go blaming mr nobody, it was you, ha ha ha.hope craibies arent workin ya too hard. Paddy.

  • SSHH! don't let the truth get in the way of a good story. Me work too hard, should know better.

  • when it was empty you could have just raised your trailer with the landing gear.

    but i't wasn't empty :(

  • @WNxRadeon Trailer legs have a low gear and can be raised when they are loaded. Seems everyone in lazy or in too much of a rush. I would say it would have been faster to wind the legs down a bit than stuff around with the airbags in this case. takes time not effort.

  • @paulderbyshire1919 i know how trailers work. :P

    but you're right :)

  • nice truck. better than the alpha model.

  • Ta, you won't get an argument from me.

  • get winding! it is a bastard when that happens. slow wind for fuckin ages.

  • Could probably do with the exercise.

  • this is no big deal, qwuit your whining, happens every day, drop your tractor air, crank down your dolly's, get under it , make sure you have clearance and hook it. Ive been trucking for 23 years and if you dont know how to hook a low trailer, you aint a trucker....its that simple. whiner!

  • Thats what i did big truck. I am a whiner your a dick head. But thanks for taking the time to tell me what i have already done. I would be me more worried about your spelling. Idiot.

  • I bet watermachel is an american eh ?? lol . Clearly NOT paying attention to the video ! That trailer was waay too low. Probably kill yourself trying to wind it up with the legs....would have een 15/20 tons on the legs ! I would use the unit to lift it every time. Very nice old Foden there btw !

  • Thankyou, can't beat a bit of health and safety but you need to get on with the job.

  • @Jayen4 you would have that trailer up in about two mins winding the legs in low gear. I do it most days as my removable dolly is around 200mm lower than the tractor skid plate/5th wheel.

  • Whenever trying to do a "push job" as we call it around here, stick some wedges behind the trailers wheels, just in case they start skidding on the mud.

But yeah, lousy way to start a morning.

    Happens *far* too often.

  • That is one great looking foden right there dont make em like they use to. I hope when i start in the trucking industry ill never get in to a situation like that but wouldnt surprise me if i did. Hope to god this industry can get some dedication back in to it again and not steerers comin into this industry giving truck drivers a bad name. Anyways ill leave with a good note lol Fabulous truck and definatly one of a kind long time since i seen a foden pulling a curtainsider

  • Thankyou, she does'nt look bad. Just been fitting more lights and chequer plate over the holidays so new vid soon of the refit. Got the short straw with the trl, i like pulling flats better.

  • yeah i know what you mean mate im following my dad into the industry but all the new people now days dont have a clue i would like to see a rookie driver try and rope and sheet a load on a flatbed lol

  • Just as i have(eventually), used to go with him uk and the continent in the 7o's. Was driving artics when i was 13, just watched, learnt about roping and sheeting and how to drive properly. Everyday is still a school day if i don't know how to do something i ask. Good luck with the job.

  • as i said not a safe practice but you go for your life

  • Make sure you keep your hard hat and hi viz jacket on just in case. Safety first. Good luck.

  • wind the legs up first,it is not a safe practice to use the prime mover to lift the legs...tb

  • If you don't trust yourself and want to sweat like a pig you do it mate. But if you have a bit of common sense and can way a job up you would do it my way.

  • Why didn't you wind the legs in the low gear to raise the trailer pin up. Trailer probably dropped originally by tractor with low fifth wheel height.

  • Good thinking but by lifting it with the unit i can take some of the weight off the legs before i wind them down. Also the man i pulled for does'nt have any low height motors.

  • Fair enough but think I would still try to wind the legs down more before trying to lift it with the tractor incase the trailer park brake isn't on (unless you have air lines connected which may be safer)(some we have are manual park brakes). Means as you started to lift the trailer, it could slide back or to the side as the weight starts to comes off the legs. We had a driver do that and the king pin slide to the side and wedged itself on the tyre and just avoided doing any serious damamge.

  • Can't beat a bit of a super safety. You are not wrong but depends how old the trailer is, newer ones have spring chambers on so when the air line is disconnected the brakes are on mechanicaly the air holds the brakes off.You could check handbrake and shunt valve positions that of course a reasnoble driver would naturally do,but i am a bit of a lazy git!

  • yes agree, if you know the trailers well enough etc then fair enough , but if picking up unknown trailer for 1st time, sometimes best to check. cheers for quick reply. Good to see people who post videos also reply to comments.

  • Totally agree. No problem replying i drive a wagon, just sit on my arse all day hiding on trading estates, UKTS!

  • yeah but the general practice is to disconect with your air suspension up and then lower it to drive away, it's a lot easier to wind the legs down than it is to wind them up. but yeah there's a lot of bozos around

  • At least it wasn't sitting with the pin in the mud, seen that a few times before.

  • Not a driver, a steering wheel attendant that's all he is obviously

  • Sadly you are right, anyone can steer them it's the little details(like winding legs down properly, being able to rope+ sheet) and most important, to me anyway taking pride in a good job done that has been lost. Most steerers don't give a monkies nowadays.

  • Theres lot of arseoles in this great trade of ours!

  • U know the score, there are drivers and steerers, u decide.

  • I drive a Foden Wrecker in the Army, just got to say, thats a nice well kept piece of kit, beats the Olive Drab paintwork on mine!...(I'd have a work with the toilet who'd left that trailer like that though!)

  • Thanks man she takes a bit of looking after but i think its worth it, flying the flag and all that.

  • Mate, defo she's worth it, take no notice of the non belever's and the one's how say clean trucks arn't working trucks, thats bullshit. You can have a hard working motor and keep her imaculate, and people like you me prove that every day (or night in my case)!

  • Amen to that. All you need is a little pride and a lot of dedication. Nearly forgot, an understanding wife.

  • Hope it wasnt my mate who dropped that trailer off hahaha

Great little vid, keep them coming. Awsome looking truck too fella

  • You are a fella with good taste, i think she looks good too.

  • good to see u have plenty time for filming millar must pay good rates

  • U K T S !

  • I would have told dispatch...NOPE...SORRY...NOT TAKING THAT LOAD!! Well not unless they could get it raised higher to pin onto it.

  • Don't think the office would like me ringing em at 5.30 in the morning, so just had to get on with it mate.

  • What i was gonna suggest is maybe try going into it from the side coz of that ditch filled with water and provided it worked to connect the trailer, straighten it up a bit then connect the lines up or something...but your wood idea was a good one!

  • Ur accent is adorable!!!! I enjoyed your rant. I liked hearing about what was going on.

  • i would like to have seen the state on the previous drivers mud guards after dropping the trailer on them

  • @majortrev a guy in my dad company did that he drove 400 miles with the airbags down and ruined 8 tires and 4 mudgaurds
