I remember competing against Shawn when we were younger in alot of karaoke contests, and I must say, she has grown so much as a person and an artist in the last 8 years. It's funny looking back on her Nashville Star experience as she progresses into a fine artist. It's funny to think that just a few years ago we were competing in small contests and now she's touring and my first album is releasing on August 23rd. Thank God for northern Iowa! This is God's country! :D

@Shadow0876 It's not a hick state in my eyes. It's a dirty, meth head, bad driving state. I live in Omaha and cringe every time I look to the East. Omaha is such a beautiful town tarnished by Council Bluffs. You should be glad Shawn is from Iowa.. She's one of the few remaining Iowans who still have all their teeth!!! Why do birds fly upsidedown over Iowa.. Because the state isn't even worth shitting on.

I agree Shawn is awesome, but she isn't very consistent. This song is beautifully written, but the performance isn't quite up to par. Though I do agree Melissa wasn't quite country enough for the show...her song was VERY pop.

The verse was really rough, but once she got to the chorus where she could belt it out, it got pretty good. I think her backup singer sucked and that messed her up a little. There was one part during the long soaring note that was terrible. I don't blame Shawn for that though... her backup singer wasn't on the same page.

Shawn is effing amazing. She slept in my bed :) (She performed at our county fair and shes friends with my mom's ex.. and they didnt wanna get a hotel so they stayed at my house and I gave up my bed lol).

Definitely - she did; but 1 great song does not a GREAT songwriter make...we don't know what else she's got. - either written yet, or yet to come; my point being, she needs to be nurtured as 'the whole package'...which she IS - not 'just' a songwriter, writing for others. Nashville's a tough town, & there are sooo many singer/songwriters...but few singer/songwriters with the elusive 'it' factor...which i sense she HAS - but which in her case could easily be crushed if not nurtured/'grown right'.

Some Artistes need 'the gentle touch' to bring out the best in them...clearly, Shawn is one such; here's hoping JS is sufficiently sensitive to keep the trust-thang goin', & 'big enough' to steer her into a stellar performing artist career (which INCLUDES being a songwriter - but not 'JUST')
