The original "Quest for Iscandar" series is now being remade in Japan under the title SPACE BATTLESHIP YAMATO: 2199! Read all about it at starblazers . com — the official STAR BLAZERS website!
I laughed after i heard the theme song because i actually remembered the lyrics 30 years later.
THE BEST space cartoon ever made, hands down. Watched it everyday before school. Glad to see it found a home and still entertains after all this time. Thank you for keeping these alive!!
This set the standard for anime as it is today. I love this shit. I ran home from school also just to make it in time to watch what would happen next.
the concept of this show sure beat He-Man.. I only watched a couple episodes because it wasn't really mainstream which made it hard to find on the local channels. if it was on I dropped everything to watch it.
man, when i was like 8 yrs old. this was my most favorite show. all i got to say is that YouTube is incredible. its funny, while i was watching this i started to remember the episode. when i was that red message capsule that they found on Mars, something clicked and i was like "hey i remember that" HA!!
i think its smarter to post the entire episode on YouTube and make money off of ads rather than post a small clip or a trailer or something that forces the person to buy the DVD.
@TheFatpanda509 It's the other way around; this series spawned fans who became animators and created MACROSS (aka Robotech). The original STAR BLAZERS series was produced in Japan in 1974, the original ROBOTECH saga (Macross) was produced in 1982.
@schizoidboy Captain Avatar was saying the same thing, in Japanese "Bakame-da", meaning, "You're nuts/stupid/idiots/morons", etc. — the STAR BLAZERS version is just one translation of the Japanese phrase (which is probably closer to what McAuliffe said.)
Watching this old school anime reminds me so much of all the Star Blazer Models I had in my room back in the early 80s and I even had all the ships from the Comet Empire.
Does anyone see the WWII US vs Japanese references in this? Especially the beginning with the unconditional surrender and the nuclear bombs?

"Captain, it's a single enemy fighter, and it's damaged!"
"Wildstar, use the Wave motion gun."
"Captain, it's the entire Gammalon Fleet! Do you want to use the Wave Motion Gun?"
"No, send out the Black Tiger Squadron. We'll fight them ship to ship."

Just a question, but... why are these rated TV-14?! I can understand rating the Live-Action Adaptation TV-14/PG-13, but not this!
