  • I swear this man can sound like three sometimes.

I have never seen him play, would probably give my right foot... but for now I will have to continue to admire this amazing talent from afar.

Been a fan forever and I don't see that changing any time soon! ;c)

  • eggtooth shreds

  • what's heartbreaking - for a guitarist at least - is the economy of the guy's technique; his hands seem to be hardly moving, yet what's coming out of the instrument is unbelievable. beautiful. and yeah. GOOD farts.

  • That easy huh Leo?

  • My mind can't even handle the technicality of this.

  • idk why but i hear tommy emmanuel when i listen to this!

  • I loved it.

  • loved it.

  • Leo has quite the fantastic style.

  • screw you

  • pretty cool, like his humor too. thanks

  • Does anyone have a link to a transcription of this? I was going to order it from the States (I'm in the UK) and the website didn't do downloads - and they were going to charge me more for the shipping than it cost for the piece itself!

    :-(

    Thanks if anyone can help..

    :-)

  • check the Tab Pigs, they have plenty o tab. good luck

  • tspsync - Then you need to hear a guy named Phil Keaggy play Olsons. They are one of the best acoustic guitars out there and Phil Keaggy one of the worlds greatest acoustic guitar players. Check him out.

  • Agreed. Jim Olson's guitars are among the best of the best.

  • Great as usual. But I sure don't like how Olson's sound, especially the cedar topped ones. I am glad he only used it for a couple of years. But he tends to care more about necks than anything else. And he could make a plastic banjo sound great.

  • I have seen him live for the past 6 years. He is a truly amazing and talented musician and entertainer. He inspires me to be a better guitar player.

  • I saw him in 2002 in Minnesota at a very small auditorium. I could not believe the sound he got from his guitars; it was unbelievably beautiful. He looked like he wasn't even trying hard to play the set, he was just that good and it was that easy for him.

  • I think he might have been the inspiration for the super marios sound track. ;)

Definitely a very talented player, but not my taste of music.

  • True master. Going to a Leo Kottke concert is like entering an altenate universe. You don't leave the same.

  • Amen!

  • That's one of a million ways to put it, all good but in the end insufficient, because the only real way to understand is to go see and hear for yourself =D

  • Oddball is the most amazing thing I've heard...ever?

  • It's got many different elements (folk, blues, jazz), and the tempo changes make it so unusual and memorable. 'Peckerwood' bears many of these traits.

  • so so good!

  • that's just AWESOME! i listen to this so many times (first one).. but to see him playing is just so much more impressive.

  • Genius. I was listening to Glasshouse in the mid 70s when that all my dad could find for the sodding 8 track stereo he bought cos it was cheap!

  • great posting thanks!

  • very cool,that sounds great

  • Leo is a freak. guitar master!

  • First time I saw Leo was 1973 at the Spring Festival at Ohio University. James Taylor and Carly Simon were the headliners for the two-day event but Leo blew everyone away!!

Oddball is a classic. . .but they all are!!

  • Genius at work.

  • I have seen him live many times- you must see him live eventually (sit close as possible) A truly great influence on the folk and jazz music world- A true master like no other; especially on the guitar he is unequalled- Mark

  • kottke is so good. love this song

  • The mastery Kottke demonstrates with finger-picking is second to none! Many imitators out there but this is the Real Deal! A true pioneer in this genre probably never to be equaled again. It takes an incredible mind to play like this!!!

  • Wow. Leo is the man. SO many layers! Sounds like he is in a guitar duel against one other, at times, two.

  • There is a slow tune by Percy Grainger (I think) that he performs occasionally. Anyone know the name of the tune or know of a video posting somewhere? Thanks.

  • I think that Oddball is one of the most creative and crazy compositions of Leo Kottke.

I'd like to find out it with a tablature.

    great Leo.

  • By hearing the tune as originally recorded (on 'That's What', in 1990) I was never really crazy about it - but then I SAW THIS VIDEO and the process in creating the song! Right on the money, acousticland, most creative, indeed!

  • I bumped into Leo Kottke at an airport last week...what a nice guy! Friendly, easy to talk to, down-to-earth, and not at all stuck up or taken with himself. How refreshing!

  • What airport/city?

  • Baltimore-Washington International Airport, just south of Baltimore, Maryland. He had played a gig the previous evening in Easton, Maryland.

  • I live in Manassas, Va I missed him the last time he was around. However, I plan on catching up with him when he comes to Charlottesville in Dec.

  • Great artist, musician very different artist from anyone what it would be like to hold that much talent in your hands two thumbs up from Down Under

  • Geese Farts on a Muggy Day

  • I love it when somebody remembers that line from the notes of his first album!

  • Geese farts, yes, I can hear that too. But GOOD geese farts.

  • Leo is always entertaining. He must have been asked to cut the tunes short, every live version of each of these tunes he vamps a lot more, especially on Oddball and Room at The Top.

  • merci beaucoup pour la video. it's the first time that i can see leo on video.( sorry for the english mistakes but i'm french)

  • God this guy is incredible. He was doing this stuff long before Andy McKee came around.

  • Have been listening to Kottke since I was a child, and I never get tired of his playing. Simply wonderful musician. Oddball, the first song here, brings back family trips in the car, childhood, everything, really

  • I've watched this video many times and now that I've signed up to YouTube I can say... Thanks for posting it!

  • Thanks for posting! Can't get enough video of Leo!

  • I´ve just discovered Leo Kottke. I need to bye all your CD´s ! you´re so great. Cheers from the Dominican Republic

  • Well if you have just discovered Leo, you are at the beginning of a long beautiful journey. He has been sooooo good for sooooo long. It amazes me how few people know about him. Enjoy.

    Kevin

  • Who's got "Pamela Brown" on tape to post it.

I have the CD,but no Video to match

  • The riffing on `Eggtooth` at about 4:30 in...is...no, really...about the greatest acoustic guitar ever. QED

  • two thumbs up!

  • King Leo. On an Olsen guitar no less. Nice job. Thanks for posting.
