Pretty pictures aren't enough to make up for the miserable gameplay. Almost nothing else in this game even reaches the level of mediocrity. The Sonic levels are poorly laid out and have unresponsive controls, the werehog portions have monotonous combat and a wonky camera, and even the hub world is so difficult to navigate, you'll spend way too much time searching for the next level. There just isn't any fun to be had in Sonic Unleashed.

wow i cant believe the difference between the Wii and 360 version i got the wii version and was very dissapointed cuz i saw all the trailors for 360. still a good game tho. normally the game between version isnt THIS big i mean the stgs r completely different once i get a 360 im gonna rent the 360 version
Sonic Team had a role in developing both versions. Development was split into two different silos, one for the PS3/360 and one for the PS2/Wii. Dimps developed some of the daytime stages for the PS2/Wii version. The rest was done by Sonic Team's PS2/Wii development silo.

and the Fact that the wii version used havoc engine (which affects the wii performance)is a Sad Fact while the 360 PS3 Versions focused on Highly Detailed cartoon graphics. I am not saying the wii can do that detailed and no they can't but if the wii version used cartoonish (like mario's or sonic adventure) graphics and ran at 60 FPS the 2 game plays would be the same.
I got this game for my playstation two and is great,good quality good speed and the werehog is cool in a difernt way,more important you don't have to look for the chaos emeralds,I don't know if this version will be like the ps3 I mean abuot if the game is the same or is just a prt of it like in ironman for example,but the stages in the trailers look almost the same as the ps3 version,it runs perfect,sonic is back!(note:some might think the story is rather chlidish or stupid but fine by me)

The Wii might not be as good as the PS3/360 version as far as technical specs go, but, considering the hardware, the Wii/PS2 versions definitely have their own merits to them... Despite the fact that one continent is entirely gone and the other consists of only a boss battle.
Whether one is the be-all-end-all best can't really be said. Just know that both versions have their own unique merits.

Well once SEGA got Sonics speed right for the first time in a decade they go and screw it up with pointless combat which slows the game significantly and is the complete opposite of what Sonic is about which is speed. Don't get me wrong though I love the day levels and some of the platforming at night but the Warehog combat is the weakest aspect of this game and if it was dropped its game would have been incredible.

Ive still got a bad feeling for this game because nearly every game thats been hyped this year has been either Meh or a flop example spiderman web of shadows alot of people were hyping that and in the end that wa sa flop.
and to soma03678 (his retarded comment is on the next page) you cant even try to compare this game with gears of war 2..this is just another crummy game thrown out with the rest of the sonic games to make a quick buck (except of course for the originals)....gears 2 will be the biggest selling game on the 360 for atleast the next 5 years.

What in the hell do you expect from a Sonic game, it has speed, running through shit, blowing up robots, having a cool and crazy element that you get to beat the crap out of things, while keeping a good story, just like a damn Sonic game! Jun Senoue was a good Sonic composer. Masato Nakamura (who did the music for Sonic 1 and 2) was a good Sonic composer. Spencer Nilsen (who did the US version of Sonic CD's music) was a good Sonic composer.

Isnt that right? Sonic's not all about the fight, or all about the speed. All he had was speed and a simple way or popping robots when he started. All they did was give him creative ways to demolish the baddies during a speeding travel process, basically each game shows you what he can do and what his character stands for. Nostalgia whores cant let it go. Sonic is going to grow and change and go through new elements, otherwise he'd be a lost thing in the past like Crash Bandicoot. Nobody complains about Mario Sunshine or Mario Galaxy. Mario isn't shooting fireballs and running into castles saving Princesses and her servant Toads. Sonic turns into a werehog, and its a big controveresy. This game is focused on SONIC, not anyone else, Knuckles could've been implemented if it wasn't focused on SONIC.
I for one think it coulda allowed other characters to have a story mode much like Sonic Adventure and been a bit mroe awesome than it already is, and STILL focus on Sonic. Just make all the stories point towards Sonic and give Sonic the longest story. (like Sonic 3 and Sonic and Knuckles did). Even Sonic adventure made everyone have nearly half the story as Sonic. But oh well it's cool. The only reason I'd like the others is cuz, well more OPTION and other creative characters. but its still cool

No, people didn't like the water gun in sunshine, infact sunshine is one of the most disliked main mario games, also will you and other people STOP comparing Sonic and Mario to each other, its retarded and you're acting as if this war is still going on, it isn't, they're not rivals anymore, because sega isn't a console manufacturer trying to go up against nintendo to get more sales then them anymore, they're now a third party company that puts there sonic games on nintendo's consoles.
This isn't a comparison, I was saying how Mario games are highly praised still even with the variations of gameplay even before the game is released, but Sonic games get bull for doing something different. I don't know what people are looking for in Sonic games, some game reviewers should get fired.
I dont agree with what you said. it looks like sega is trying something diferent, but the fact is, all we get here is a new graphic engine, super exagerated speed (that is totally useless, in my opinion) and the same minimal gameplay sonic did ever since he went 3D.
As for Mario, i think the new gameplay elements in every games are always subtle, but always works well, yet keeping the essence of what a mario platformer should be.
I think that this game plays very well, I don't understand what people want in Sonic games, but whatever it is, it isn't realistic at all. The speed is very well done and adds that element of super speed that Sonic has into the game. Sonic never had anything special in 2d games either. Mario games were always a bad experience for me, especially Mario Sunshine, which that whole water gun thing was weird, and Mario Galaxy, not fun at all...

And when we look at Martio games (only the platformers, not the sports games, and yet they are good) we only get 1 mario game avery 2-3 years. And the fact is they are always great in every way, Even sunshine.
The quality of a Sonic game that sunk was only Sonic The Hedgehog (2006). That game was super glitchy and super annoying. Sonic Adventure, Sonic Adventure 2 and Sonic Heroes, presented good elements with alot of fun. This game will be abslutely excellent, unless you are one of those people who want somthing in a Sonic game that utterly isn't realistic. Mario has always been an issue for me, I've never liked the way that the platforming element was structured, plus the storylines are strange.
second to agree! XD they have made an awesome job and i'm trully looking foward to this game. the werehog idea is just great, keeping sonic's style while putting new stuf is great. and btw no one will be able to complain anymore about the camera.....
mmm, I think that deals with level design and controlability. (although the real Sonic could dodge easily but real life we dont have such quick reactions unless they made it slow motion, but it could be programmed to automatically slide til you move foward again like an invisible sheild on all other objects after Sonic runs at a certain speed so it seems like he dodges everything XD)

And I am 99% sure that the voices will be made by 5 years old girs and boys which shows just which kind of people they focus the game on. I remember good 'ol sonic on Megadrive (Genesis) and Master System and it was way better than this abomination (I haven't actually tested it but I don't like 3D sonic). Please, make a new REAL sonic game in 2D like Mega Man 9.

Is it just me or do both fans and critics hate new Sonic concepts. Whenever a new concept comes up the instant reaction is "It's a stupid idea" or "It's gay" or "Why isn't like what he was?". If you want a classic Sonic game get one off virtual console or even on the Ipod (Sonic 1 is on the Ipod). Sonic needs to change. Every game series needs to have new concepts otherwise people will still moan and say "We want something new".

umm...not really but it'd beat Riders 1 and 2, Secret Rings, Shadow The Hedhehog, besides the story next gen, Heroes, and it beats Adventures 1 and 2 gameplay wise but not by everything else. It beats all old games in every way except by speed, tone, music, and design in Sonic 2 (only in 2D of course XP)

graphics aren't everything. Gameplay is much more important then graphics. If the gameplay sucked but the graphics were good, you would just have something pretty to look at but you'd be bored at the same time. At least with good gameplay you won't be and the graphics wouldn't matter.

if the gameplay was awesome no one would want to play the game cuz it looked like a bunch of colored blocks. No one would be attracted to it, and even if the gameplay were good it'd LOOK crappy so you'd never know. Also, you can't do certain things without raising the graphic levels. like fan games, the cheaper the graphics the mroe limited the gameplay. and admit it, Sonic Unleashed is pretty good looking and if it had better graphics (with the same cool gameplay) it'd be even better.
Also the 4kids cast is a slight bit cheaper than the originals (though select few are better than the originals), they're not as bad as ppl say and they're the only cast to be so close to the previous one compared to all other english casts. XD But also, they dont sound like Teletubbies so it's not as bad as ppl say so to me the 4kids cast hasnt hit a level that I would really specifically DISLIKE ya know? ^^;

The Story is the same for all version's ps2 and wii have same level's, xbox360 and ps3 have different level's.

Most likely the development was split into two was probably because the Hedgehog engine at the time wasn't available for the Wii/PS2.
And also to give Dimps some extra cash plus more Sonic development experiences.

Well once SEGA got Sonics speed right for the first time in a decade they go and screw it up with pointless combat which slows the game significantly and is the complete opposite of what Sonic is about which is speed. Don't get me wrong though I love the day levels and some of the platforming at night but the Warehog combat is the weakest aspect of this game and if it was dropped its game would have been incredible.

What in the hell do you expect from a Sonic game, it has speed, running through shit, blowing up robots, having a cool and crazy element that you get to beat the crap out of things, while keeping a good story, just like a damn Sonic game! It's driving me up the fuckin wall, I don't know what the hell people expect a Sonic game to be!! Its always something wrong! Plus this game has been in development for 3 years so its not being thrown out there, they've pushed the date back on the game before.

Jun Senoue was a good Sonic composer. Masato Nakamura (who did the music for Sonic 1 and 2) was a good Sonic composer. Spencer Nilsen (who did the US version of Sonic CD's music) was a good Sonic composer.

So people are bashing this game and Black Knight just because they can't get used to the fact that games today need some creativity. Grow up people. I believe the ones who are LESS into Sonic stuff are the ones who decided where Sonic goes becuz some ppl are obsessed with Sonic enough to judge too harshly while the others dont care and can give more accurate opinions. Isnt that right? Sonic's not all about the fight, or all about the speed. All he had was speed and a simple way or popping robots when he started. All they did was give him creative ways to demolish the baddies during a speeding travel process, basically each game shows you what he can do and what his character stands for. Mario gets so much credit for not doing much throught the years probably BECUASE he's the mascott rivally Sonic. XD (he's cool in his own way tootho :3)

Nostalgia whores cant let it go. Sonic is going to grow and change and go through new elements, otherwise he'd be a lost thing in the past like Crash Bandicoot. Nobody complains about Mario Sunshine or Mario Galaxy. Mario isn't shooting fireballs and running into castles saving Princesses and her servant Toads. Sonic turns into a werehog, and its a big controveresy. This game is focused on SONIC, not anyone else, Knuckles could've been implemented if it wasn't focused on SONIC.

I for one think it coulda allowed other characters to have a story mode much like Sonic Adventure and been a bit mroe awesome than it already is, and STILL focus on Sonic. Just make all the stories point towards Sonic and give Sonic the longest story. (like Sonic 3 and Sonic and Knuckles did). Even Sonic adventure made everyone have nearly half the story as Sonic. But oh well it's cool. The only reason I'd like the others is cuz, well more OPTION and other creative characters. but its still cool

I dont agree with what you said. it looks like sega is trying something diferent, but the fact is, all we get here is a new graphic engine, super exagerated speed (that is totally useless, in my opinion) and the same minimal gameplay sonic did ever since he went 3D.
As for Mario, i think the new gameplay elements in every games are always subtle, but always works well, yet keeping the essence of what a mario platformer should be.

I think that this game plays very well, I don't understand what people want in Sonic games, but whatever it is, it isn't realistic at all. The speed is very well done and adds that element of super speed that Sonic has into the game. Sonic never had anything special in 2d games either. Mario games were always a bad experience for me, especially Mario Sunshine, which that whole water gun thing was weird, and Mario Galaxy, not fun at all...

The quality of a Sonic game that sunk was only Sonic The Hedgehog (2006). That game was super glitchy and super annoying. Sonic Adventure, Sonic Adventure 2 and Sonic Heroes, presented good elements with alot of fun. This game will be abslutely excellent, unless you are one of those people who want somthing in a Sonic game that utterly isn't realistic. Mario has always been an issue for me, I've never liked the way that the platforming element was structured, plus the storylines are strange.

mmm, I think that deals with level design and controlability. (although the real Sonic could dodge easily but real life we dont have such quick reactions unless they made it slow motion, but it could be programmed to automatically slide til you move foward again like an invisible sheild on all other objects after Sonic runs at a certain speed so it seems like he dodges everything XD)

Is it just me or do both fans and critics hate new Sonic concepts. Whenever a new concept comes up the instant reaction is "It's a stupid idea" or "It's gay" or "Why isn't like what he was?". If you want a classic Sonic game get one off virtual console or even on the Ipod (Sonic 1 is on the Ipod). Sonic needs to change. graphics aren't everything. Gameplay is much more important then graphics. If the gameplay sucked but the graphics were good, you would just have something pretty to look at but you'd be bored at the same time. At least with good gameplay you won't be and the graphics wouldn't matter.

if the gameplay was awesome no one would want to play the game cuz it looked like a bunch of colored blocks. No one would be attracted to it, and even if the gameplay were good it'd LOOK crappy so you'd never know. Also, you can't do certain things without raising the graphic levels. like fan games, the cheaper the graphics the mroe limited the gameplay. and admit it, Sonic Unleashed is pretty good looking and if it had better graphics (with the same cool gameplay) it'd be even better.
