Anyway If our ministers aren't paid well, we will either have the talented people going into the private sector/overseas to get paid that well, or corruption seeps in. Ministers in power and charge of making important decisions, are then suspect to bribes by private rich people. I honestly do not see why minister's salaries is a topic at all.
BTW for the ignorant, the middle and poor are not paying their salaries. Do some research then talk.

Its simple math, that we dun need to pay the Ministers/PM/DPM x3/ SM/MM so much can be saved... and sure we can still run Spore corrupt free. Are the PAP saying if they are less than $1mil p.a. they will go corrupt? If so, then they are NOT fit to be up there!!
I think it is great that our Ministers earn so much. At least parents can also aspire to have their children aspire to go into public service. I still agree if you want quality management team, you got to pay for it. A Minister must also become a role that people of high calibre aspire to be part of and work towards.

what made you think that by paying a lot, is paying for good quality? there are times whn you might buy a fake adidas in th market by paying th same price as th real adidas. however, i feel that its totally impossible for them to half their pay now, as they might not be able to lead a luxury life thn. and ask yourself, if you are them, would you really half your pay? your luxury life would be affected. its really a hard decision, but if one is truly serving sg, he might have do it.
and i feel that if one is to be really corrupt, no matter how much you pay one, one would still corrupt. if one has never thought of corrupt, he would never corrupt, even with a low pay. its sometimes questionable, is th position being paid so much? if so, in th future, definitely there would be corruption. and those rich would definitely bride their way up, because they could have both authorities and wealth. so, its also not really a very good idea, you see.
paying them high now, might not lead to corruption, for now. because LKY is still here. however, i feel that th pay should really be based on performance. as said, reward for work, work for reward. lets say, a particular position in th cabinet pays a million now, in th future any new candidates who took up th position would only take a quarter of th salary, for a start. he has to show that he is capable in serving th people thn we could justify th pay increase to half a million.
th next year or something, th maximum pay that could be increase to is 1million, for example. however, if they made any mistake, we of course do not want them to resign. but, if there is a mistake under them, no matter what. i feel that they pay should be deducted, till they are showing improvement on other project or cases thn only would their pay be raised again.
What Mr Chiam said are based on facts and figures which are supportive to his claims. Sad to say, his suggestions or perhaps objection will end up nowhere as he is a player and not a "Banker"!!
