  • Racism smacism! just enjoy a cool tune!!!!!

  • Neil Young fucked the Swans...

  • I'll be in Milan tomorrow, to see the concert of DiJ. I can't wait!!!

  • Douglas, keep talking to me with that suave voice. .I'm melting

  • Golliwogg APPROVES of this song.

  • I love this song so much !!!

  • soooo good. And +666 points for the Deaths Head!

  • @panzersushi LOL you don't know ANYTHING about NS. Please, go and get some SERIOUS info about that. NS = kill other races? Wtf!

  • I looked up the tabs and everyone has it as Em, G, Em, Bm, Em, A11, Em. But watching this video it doesn't look like He's playing a B minor because it's not barred. Granted I am just learning so I'm probably missing something (which should be damn obvious since I can't even play this song yet) I can play something that sounds close but I'm not sure what the chord is, not only that but if I substitute a D chord for Bm it sounds pretty close and is much easier to play. Any tips appreciated.

  • @kemicon I figzed it out. He just doesn't bar the chord. Pretty easy song but the strumming makes it a bit difficult to sing at the same time, but that's probably because I'm not a very good guitarist. Baby steps.

  • @kemicon he is playing a Bm just not a barre chord, its his own preference for not barring it. it still sounds the same if you use a barre chord.

  • Oh Olivia, you are my little black angel...

  • If you're not a NS, then fuck off the Deaths Head.

  • omg i heard thiz iz nazi lol, anyone confirm?

  • @AnUUb1s At the start of the eighties, Tony and I were involved in radical left politics and beneath it history students. In search of a political view for the future we came across National Bolshevism which is closely connected with the SA hierarchy. People like Gregor Strasser and Ernst Röhm who were later known as 'second revolutionaries' attracted our attention. [Cit. Douglas Pearce.]

  • @AnUUb1s "I've an interest in all aspects of the Third Reich. It has had such a huge influence on the world, who could fail to be intrigued by it? However, I've still read more pages of Das Kapital [Marx] than Mein Kampf [Hitler]!" [Douglas Pearce]

  • haunting music. i must say this is a little creepy though

  • @Scippamcfly homosexual nazi who's played shows in isreal and has collaborated with jewish musicians.

  • @dopeychickenfingers well, since Israel is probably the most racist country nowadays...

  • @eskorbutin89 what does that have to do with what i said. douglas p is obviously not a nazi.

  • @dopeychickenfingers the point is, it doesn't matter if germanic, semitic or what, racism is wrong and retarded

  • @dopeychickenfingers anyway, it wasn't a serious comment, let's not make it a big deal.

  • @Scippamcfly he was in an anarcho punk band called Crisis who played many Rock Against Racism gigs. Do your homework, jackass.

  • @Scippamcfly

Same "NAzi" who plays shows in Israel, and has read more pages of Das Kapital than Mein Kampf... yeah, really "Nazi"

  • saw them in 97 in a coffee shop in houston tx,,amazing! was on my way to honduras saw a flyer and had to stick around the extra 2 weeks until the show, glad i did

  • Love this. LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE THHHHIIISSS

  • True Douglas is a real music genius!

  • @xghoulx

    Nice troll.

  • @MakingWarJustForFun it was a joke

  • @xghoulx

    nice troll [img]trollface.jpg[/img]

  • @MakingWarJustForFun динахупидрбля

  • Is this band nazi or is it just an artistic camouflage for quite diffrent ideas? Why do they use this nazi symbols? What is the true meaning? Or maybe it was meant to remain a mystery?

  • @perryoparsons Exactly you got it.

  • good question, no answer :(

  • @perryoparsons look at wikipedea dont know if its true.. but i guess

  • @perryoparsons

they for sure aren't nazis, Douglas is openly homosexual, and has collaberated with jewish artists.

and all the nazi symbolism will prbly always be a "mystery" as you put it

  • @piiglumps lol.. a mystery only if one does not understand or know. But to spell it out, there really is no conflict.

  • @piiglumps I think is just to piss off people, I mean, there are fascist and nazi stuff all around the DIJ albums, but it never gets to the point of being straight nazi, that's why they call it cryptofa. So, it's enough nazi to piss people off, but not nazi enough to accuse them of being nazis.

PD: if I say nazi again it will loose sense

  • @piiglumps crisis his punk project was openly ns..

  • @AxiomAnarcho The fuck? They were staunchly leftist and anti-fascist.

  • This is very heavy music! Nachtmystium sent me.

  • does "death in june" refer to the capture of the leaders of the sa on june 30th?

does douglas pearce want to appeal the listeners with his music or the themes in it?

are most of the listeners thinking about the lyrics? is there a main sence or can anyone interprate his own sight on it?

it's ok to set the music in front and not the person who is behind it. so you can hide your private life from negative critic.

I personally think everyone should think of it by himself and let not be occupied by

  • @occulis Are you sure the name "Death In June" doesn't refer to something a bit more innocent, like the short story collection "Death In Mid-Summer" by Yukio Mishima? Since the official Death In June webpage devotes some space to Mishima I'd imagine the band name is a bit of an homage?

  • @Apossession

The name Death In June is a mondegreen, Douglas P once misheard Patrick Leagas in the studio and heard whatever he said as "Death in June", and settled on that as the name for the band.

  • always loved this band. so talented.

  • Douglas P. creates music that is so emotionally fulfilling, I'm thankful it exists.

  • its beauty...

  • @scarsaroundthehead At least there is at least a slight bit of bit knowledge amongst men.

  • My favorite DI6 song, and I think it's even better live.

  • @scarsaroundthehead Ernst Roehm was actually more Socialists leaning rather than Fascist, it's why he got "offed" during the Night of the Long Knives.

  • Di6 great !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • DIn6 this is so great music listen every day when in holland they play grreez patrick from middelburg

  • Death in June in live, it is just great.

  • only a provocateur would walk around like this.

a respectable nazi wouldn't let himself be seen like that.

  • @TimothyBragan you say "respectable nazi" like its a real thing...

  • beyoNd the simPle miNds lanDs oV labels unaBle to sWim you graSp all you can prAying for the shoRe to emBraCe you ....only you caN bleed thRough

  • Why do people always have to talk about the political or religious beliefs of a musician?. I think those subjects are nothing compared to the music of Douglas P. The guy's a genius.

  • @saborranchero Hey Dude. These Kind of People probably don't understand the Music - and they never will.

  • Why do people keep thinking that it makes a man nazi, if he sings about them?

Personally I wouldn't care if he was, but he is not a nazi, and won't become one.

DI6 is SUPERIOR. I wish I had the chance to see Pierce play live.

  • @Kaktushaukka Douglas P. seems to use the crypto-fascism schtick to antagonize the PC crowd would be my guess. I love his music, and see past it.

  • @dsbrck

Not sure if that's entirely correct, but I like your take on it...

  • What I love about DIJ is the attention devoted to cover art and packaging. I just picked up three cd re-releases with the most gorgeous sleeves, but the vinyl versions are even cooler. You can't leave the store without them.

  • i love this song

  • nice song

  • Is he wearing a nazi helmet ?

  • Comment removed

  • after meeting him I can say Douglas is one of the nicest persons in the world

agree or disagree with me @rosidentevil on twitter

  • @angelsky666 YOU MEET HIM I WOULD KILL 6000000 JEWS TO MEET HIM

  • @angelsky666 PLEASE COME LOOK AT MY TWITTER PAGE. I WANT GRATIFICATION

  • ich bin auch national sozialist und habe noch nie jemanden zu leide getan, und es ist mir auch egal was die leute von mir denken.

  • I wish I could go see DIJ live, but I have dark skin. So so obviously I am exempt from doing this right?

  • Why does he cover his face?

  • @MrSvenskUngdom theatrical content, it's a show and has to be entertaining, Doug p knows the impact of third reich and uses it as an art form. His father was a royal air force officer so uniforms had an impact on him from an early age plus he's gay, quite a mixture but effective, it's thought provoking but nothing sinister.

  • i think whats most brilliant about them is their consistency.

  • even if he was a nazi .... i dont care ....the DIJ work is awsome in poetry and new tunes ...just beutiful ... my litlle black angel

  • calming

  • Yup.

  • mentally handicapped boyd rice- funny.

  • I just realized this is basically one riff for the entire song. I got an acoustic recently so this gives me hope that I might one day learn at least one FRIGGEN song!

  • @kemicon learn an E minor chord,A minor, A sustain2,and most open major and minor chords to play some DIJ songs and most "folk" or acoustic stuff...good luck, practice is the key.

  • @krickification thanks for the tips, I know a couple chords and I try and play pretty frequently but I need to dedicate a little more time.

  • @kemicon You will know when you get" there",the chords will flow together with timing and it won't be something you "think" of playing next per say...keep at it!

  • Viele dank, dp.......<3 tf

  • guys all the ones who call him a nazi, fuck*

you know nothing about him and his music.

i am turkish grown up in berlin and even I with not aryan background like nazi aesthetics.

so read more about him and his work and not just the critic that some stupid lefties write about him. Thanks

  • i play this on my guitar everyday :)

  • Lucypunch what do I gain? Nothing. I listened to this music for years, I still listen to alot of it, including DiJ sometimes. People should know what he is really about, since brave white warriors like Douglas P. and Tony Wakeford don't actually just come out and admit what they are about, someone should say it, I feel totally justified in doing so, and I think at least a few people will enlighten themselves on the subject due to my comments, that's all I'm expecting.

As to the rest of it...meh

  • fucking briiliant!

  • link us up buddy! U LIKE CRISIS??????

  • P.S. Being gay doesn't disqualify someone from being a Nazi, in fact the SA..which perace is obsessed with, was known for its tolerance of some homosexuals, the history of fascism isn't black and white as "if someone is X they can't be a fascist".

  • Cracks me up, all you people saying he isn't a fascist, have you actually read his intereviews, and know his history? What about the general politics of the darker ends of the neofolk scene? Claiming there is no link to fascism is just ignorance, there clearly is, and DIJ definitely are admittedly enamored of proto-fascist philosophies and ideas, and in fact..they have never really denied it.

  • @zachariahz So what if he has a FASCInation with fascism? DiJ is a band loved by many from all walks of life, more than any pro-nazi band. What do you plan to gain by proving everyone wrong who sticks up for him?

You're probably obsessed with multiculturalism, yet you're just supporting ideas spouted by multi-national corporations not bound to any nation and communist regimes from the cold war era. What does that say about you?

  • Thanks for posting this.. Haven't seen live DIJ in years and I feel like seeing them again...

  • Happy Birthday, Douglas!

Keep on creating wonderful deep poetry like you did the last three decades, even though I'll probably never see you live, performing like this...

  • IN A WEek.

    in a town...

    one (whatever shee is)

    would have, exPected!

    a ResPonse....

    By NOW!

y'all are slow & besides that, stop as of now posting any songs of which the sound quality is not of

    Thee Most Excellente!!e!

    Comprenez! :)

    - or, it could also be that wee just suck! -

  • @ Fritz & ignoran.. etc. : When is the wedding? :) Srsly tho.. how do you really feel about it? -- Ok, enough with the pleasantries!... Is it just me? or is this conspiracy getting hot in here? ! ... :)--- being that my speakers apparently suck so bad that i can't hear this song in any decent enough fashion to *not* stab my ears out in respect of Sound.. ok, i maybe i hyperbole a bit butt. those who know this art of sound? does it always do, ThiS?

  • @Rhonda

We just came to a good conclusion about our discussion matter, you silly ;)

The recording is a bit overcharged, yep.

  • excellent song.

  • This song is about Anegla Davis?.... Does someone have proof of that?

  • One more, ignoranttwat :)

You wrote that you find my opinions on the Ernst Röhm thing disgusting.

You're sure realising the fact we are talking about a so called human being who likes SS logos, dresses up in WW2 uniforms and puts hakenkreuze on his record covers?

Well, I must admit that this is quite amusing :)

  • @fritzo62

Well, probably no-one will ever know for certain, and it doesn't really matter anyway. I did remember that thing about the German releases, when he explained the meanings of the songs to German officials in order to legalize selling them in Germany but he never bothered taking them to court because of the money I think. Anyway, it's all speculation.

  • Guess you're right on this and nope it doesnt matter. What i am quite sure about - he really likes to provoke and he is quite clever in blurring his real thoughts about it all.

About the blur - i guess this is a problem all neofolk bands have - too much imagery and thoughts which were used during some very dark years of the 20th century.

  • @ignoranttwat

You spoke about an interview - is there any source? I couldnt find it, would like to check out what he said. Ahm did you notice the comment of Rawlinson18?

    Q: "Are you a nazi?"

DP: "Don't worry about it mate"

Is it this quote you meant?

  • @ignoranttwat

Your name is well chosen and i am sure it's not without reason ;)

  • Could everyone please shut the fuck up? He is NOT a Nazi, which if you are interested in his work you should know by now, and who gives a fuck if he's gay, and that doesn't stop you from being a fascist prick either.

  • "Are you a nazi"? "Don't worry about it mate" This conversation took place at the Royal in Guildford in the early eighties so there you go make of it what you will, it's impact, it's art. My accompliace asked the question not me and i thought he was a cunt for doing it.

  • Well Joy Division used Nazi imagery, too. Its obvious DIJ borrowed the nazi imagery from Joy Division.

  • sorry, he's not a nazi, he's provoking. there are more dangerous bands in germany. in GB they're playing with shocking symbols (that's not okay, but it's not forbidden there).

  • Although it might be very strange from a modern point of view that being gay and nazi go together, it obviously worked for Röhm and does also for Douglas Pearce.

Whoever now wants to state that he is not a nazi - i'd like to discuss it but you surely have a bad hand here.

Btw - excuse me if i might sound kiddish and very young which i am not but i'd like to throw a little FUCK YOU BROWN SEED' into the room to make things very clear here ;)

  • Röhm is -the- big archetype for Douglas P. Röhm was homosexual, a militant SA soldier and one of the biggest foes of Adolf Hitler. Nevertheless he was a nazi, and he was ne of the most important ones during the early years of Hitlers takeover.

This is how Douglas sees himself, as a successor of Ernst Röhm. Homosexual, a nazi, the mind twisted and full of caveats.

  • @fritzo62

That's ridiculous. You are proof that knowledge≠intelligence.

  • Facts:

    - Tony Wakeford + Patrick Leagas left because they did not want to deal with fascism

    - The DIJ logo is the 3rd reich's SS skull

    - DIJ published a Brown book LP with a 'Horst Wessel Lied' on it

    - The cover of Sun Dogs shows a swastika

    - The band likes to dress up like SS soldiers and wear german steel helmets

    - DIJ explained to have found their future perspective in a nationalistic bolcevism in an interview and mentioned Röhm and Strasser during the interview

  • Conclusions:

    - the name Death In June being a reminiscence (Douglas P. mentioned Ernst Röhm several often. He was said to try to putsch against Hitler. Röhm got sentenced in Munich on 30th of Juni 1934 by order of Hitler and was shot later on. Douglas P. talked about what had been if he had been successful with his putsch although it's not even 100% clear that he was up to raise against Hitler)

    - Ernst Röhm as an archetype for Douglas P. (imho it's obvious but that's my personal opinion)

  • @fritzo62

Your opinions on the Ernst Röhm thing are disgusting, and I remember seeing an interview with Douglas P. somewhere in which he denied being a Nazi, and then said something like "what's ironic is I've probably read more of the Communist Manifesto than I have of Mien Kampf.", I can't find it though, which is annoying.

  • @ignoranttwat

I dont wonder that he said something like that. I only wonder how he meant it. There are 2 alternatives:

    - either the irony is within the way he is seen by people which would left him completely misunderstood

    - or he laughs about himself, because he had been (or at least was called) a leftist once, and now is the complete opposite

I wonder why you're so aghast that people like me think he is a nazi. He now deals with nazi symbols and ideology for many years - is it so far away?

  • They explained that they searched for a political perspective for the future and found them in the 'nationalistic bolshevism' which also was very popular in the rows of the 3rd Reich's SA. They mentioned that they came across people like Gregor Strasser and Ernst Röhm, which later on were known as 2nd revolutionaries, as said both were highly ranked SA members.

  • The name Death In June is a reminiscence to the death of SA leader Ernst Röhm and other highly ranked SA people who were sentenced to death in 1934. The band's logo is the skull of the third's reich SS. DI6 published an LP called 'The Brown Book' which contained the 'Horst Wessel Lied', the hymn of the NSDAP. The cover of the 'Sun Dogs' vinyl shows a swastika made of a rose and 4 dogs assembled to a hakenkreuz. The band likes to dress up like SS soldiers and wear old german steel helmets.

  • Patrick Leagas (Patrick O'Kill), a founder of Di6, left the band due to it's fascistic designs and later formed SixthComm. Tony Wakeford left DI6 because he said he wanted to get rid of the right scene, he later founded Sol Invictus.

Pearce and Wakeford were interviewed after the end of Crisis. During this, they said they were disappointed of the left scene and stated they were 'studying history'.

  • he's not too nazi at all...he's gay

  • I'm sorry, but when did this performance occur?

  • @FlipDumas

    2002 in New York.

    Cheers!

  • Thank you. cheers (:

  • All pigs must die! salut

  • LOL, Chubacka.

  • @indrik1977 Nah . . . I think it's Dumb Donald from "Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids".

  • Comment removed

  • Douglas wrote this song in honor of Angela Davis, Black Panther and civil rights activist.

  • DIJ is just a scapegoat to these ARA fascists who've got nothing better to do, when they should be going against real neo-nazi's like the stormfront scum...

  • Jander, stormfront isn't full of neo-nazis. You speak about being misinformed when you're also misinformed. That doesn't make you look too good.

  • Awesome!

  • Thanks for posting this. Would love to see D6 live.

  • i cant sleep without this

  • this song sweeps me away

  • tab this song anyone?

  • Em G Em Bm Em A11 Em

  • i just found out about this guy, what's his deal? is he a nazi or what? regardless i think that he is a wonderful artist and i'll continue listening

  • He is not, many Neofolk bands take on a image of various Axis-themes.

  • No he is not, many neofolk bands take on various Axis-themes, just look at bans like Von Thronstahl, Der Blutharsch etc.

  • @OthalWarrior

Well, VT, or at least their head JayKay clearly is at least heavily influenced by National Socialism

  • Yes, Von Thronstahl is more or less outspoken "fascists" or something in that direction. Many people seem to like Death In June but are either "afraid" of listening to them because of thier "image" and/or that the lyrics are very intellectual and people tend to take the lyrics to litterarly without reflecting over them, but as soon as one clarifies that Douglas is a homosexuall people seem to loosen up and learn to enjoy the music.

  • @OthalWarrior

Well, I can enjoy fascist music, even though I personally find fascism obsolete in the modern world. It's not like I would adopt ones believes, only because I listen to ones music. As for Nazism and Homosexuality, those aren't mutually exclusive.

  • Exactly, I listen to what I find good, either musicially or lyrically. All music that apeal to me whatever the message is. No, they're not incompatible, but I was trying to prove how absurd some people reason; "I find Death In June fascist, but Douglas P is a homosexual, therefore I am no longer offended by the lyrical content" - Some people seem to be thinking that way.

  • Wich is incredibly stupid. Glad that there's another intelligent being on the web, those tend to become less in numbers.

  • @OthalWarrior I also found it a bit interesting that so many people jump on DI6's "Nazi" imagery and symbolism, yet the symbols they use (like so many others) have had varied meanings throughout history. I don't believe they have used any sort of symbolism that could be tied into a pro-Nazi category. A vast majority of symbols have had different meanings throughout the years. Take the peace sigh, for example. Once upon a time, it was used as an insignia on one of Hitler's tank battalions.

  • @OthalWarrior

True true, while there are outspoken Fascist/Nazi neofolk bands like Von Thronstall, people who generalize all neofolk and related music as Nazi/Racist/Fascist just don't understand...

  • No. Douglas Pierce is not a Nazi. Hell; he was in Crisis, a punk band that played at anti-racism rallies. Besides; Douglas P is a homosexual. Because of that, I doubt he'd make a very good nazi :P

    Heil DI6!

  • or would it(wink)

  • Think he has explained the symbols for a million times....don't know why people keep asking this. Really hope I can see his live.

  • correct! and the fact he wears WWII uniforms is a punk inheritance from the 70's

His voice overhelming the music is simply awesome

    cheers!

  • he collected them before he was into punk and i believe he has a fetish for military regalia aswell

  • Totally right! :)

  • Phrazers' a mate of mine , crisis got no end of hassle from the nf, he fended off four skinheads with a microphone stand (*_*)

  • @Clockworkz some people prefer to believe the prejudices against those bands, instead they inform about Neofolk, this kind of music has nothing to do with national socialism

  • @Clockworkz Regardless of whether or not he was a Nazi, your knowledge of the Nazi's is not very accurate. There was a huge occult abnd homosexual segment of the highest ranking Nazi's. I suggest youi learn your history proper befiore making such ignorant and off base claims.

  • @atomeyes555 the 'occult' stuff is exaggerated. And didn't the gay Nazis get exectuted in the night of the long knives?

  • @Clockworkz He was a strasserist for a while, around the beginning of DIJ...

  • @Clockworkz Yeah, plus his angel is black.

  • @Clockworkz

Being gay doesn't me you are NOT National Socialist.

  • @malanoce The Nazis were vehemently anti-gay though, at least once Hitler took full power in Germany. Just ask Ernst Rohm...

  • The guy is showing the absurdity of the Nazi idea - how can he be a Nazi? Just take the following contradiction :

"...I want you to live by the justice code

I want you to burn down freedom's road.."

    vs :

"...Little black angel I feel so glad

You'll never have things I never had..."

If he was a Nazi he would do anything to hide this inborn utter contradiction of any regime & religion (including Fascism, Socialism, Capitalism - all ISMs, typical modern religions :-)).

  • Douglas himself said that this song is about an adopted African boy living in a 19th century English village. He ended up killing his foster parents.

  • Actually, it's based on a song cult leader Jim Jones wrote for his black adopted son. "He's Disabled" also is based on a song by Jones. Look it up.

  • I stand corrected - "Snows of the Enemy" is based on that story. Sorry.

  • this song is such a good one at that

  • Great song.

  • excelente

  • It's sad when such puss-brain ignorant little turds accuse this band of fascism and racism. Maybe if you learned how to interpret lyrics you'd realize there's so much more going on in these songs than what seems obvious. Douglas Pearce is a musical and artistic genius. Bow down.
