it's vandalism that can be removed - "friendly" because it's not damaging anything and accents otherwise boring parts of buildings, signs etc. it also brightens up someones day; everyone loves a bit of knitting.
the real issue with all of this is that your trying to associate yourself with a subculture that you don't understand. then you wonder why it rejects you. if you want to be a part of something it helps to understand its roots until then you will simply be treading water as you remain stuck in an abyss of mediocrity. by all means knit as you see fit and when i see one in public i will cut it down as i see fit to do
I don't think they're trying to become part of the traditional graff subculture. I think you're making assumptions and wrongly feel your toes are being stepped on with this. It's not traditional graff and no one's saying it is. What it is, though is a form of vandalism that could also be considered art.
Plus, if you knew anything about feminism and the history of women, you would realize that you are being sexist. The mere fact that you think that they need to fit into your male ideal of tagging or graff is exactly what motivates women's groups such as these to infiltrate the landscape with a knitting, a form of craft often associated to women. You need to build some critical thinking skills and maybe take a history class-- one that includes women's history. P.S Bansky is awesome. :P
@sacredstarlett. Speaking of history none of these people know anything about where the history of graff comes from and why it has stemmed from the US into a worldwide movement embraced by both guys and gals. There are tons of lady writers and street artists who have tons of respect not because they are girls but because the quality of their work is undeniable. you want respect but fail to observe why is respect is given in the community. the issue isn't gender its quality of work.
@thegetyourskid: You sound like an impossible purist. Open up your mind. If you are truly into graff, than you would be accepting of different subgenres in its evolution. You only respect people who go to jail for graff? What does that prove but perpetuate the stereotype. That way of thinking is pathetic. You are the one who is ignorant and closed-minded.
For someone to actually be ANGERED by this is preposterous! Seriously? THIS of all things makes you upset? The other commentators pegged it perfectly in two words....MISDIRECTED ANGER. The war in Darfur...now THAT'S something to get angry about. Those people live in fear everyday of being killed and having their families massacred in front of them. That's something to get angry about. Not guerrilla knitting.
Are you one of those people who would have me donate my money to a foundation so that they can then give it to the darfur government, who uses it to kill its own people. You cant stop a genocide with donations. You wanna start a war to stop it? you wanna pick up a gun and go fight for them? the answer is no because you don't actually know anybody in darfur. So why don't you keep donating your dollars and wearing your save darfur t-shirts so that you can feel like your saving the world.
naw i'm actually a pretty happy guy myself. i'm just tired of people harping about darfur like its the be all end all of tragedies. it seems to me that most people who talk about it are just attempting to make themselves look politically aware. there are atrocities happening around the globe in places like north korea and india yet everyone cries about darfur.
I have a ton of respect for the people who feel strongly enough about a issue to actually go to the location and attempt to make a difference. that is essentially the only way a difference can be made. throwing money at a problem doesn't make it better but if it keeps you hopeful, then by all means waste your dollars.

this is a disgrace to street art in general. honestly girls go home and knit yourself a scarf. your also giving the few legit girl artists a bad rep. stop embarrassing yourself.
Misdirected anger. Focus on the system that repressess and disenfranchises artists who are female rather than attacking your sisters. Until there is equality, you are just undermining yourself. I hope this helps. Happy Holidays

im not angry at female artists. in fact big ups to the girls that do actually graf. a local chick in my area just got prison time and over 100k in damage fines. thats real graf. this pussy shit only helps that system by perpetuating false rebellion. knitta please sucks, you suck dick, and anyone who actually respects this garbage needs to look up some graf history and learn a little respect for the real artists. its got nothing to do with equality i respect good work this just isn't good.
Knitta please perpetuates false rebellion as much as Basquiat or Banksy.Maybe revisiting graf. history would inform your posts. Critique at the level of skill is one thing, but you are attacking the message. Bricolage or infiltration is the most subversive form of protest and effective rebellion. You are angry, but it is misdirected. Good luck to you and your friend.
Banksy is not a graffiti artist. He used to be, once he got limelight he knew it was over and went to commissioned pieces and galleries. Both of those two artists aren't graff. They know it and they never claim it. I don't have a problem with them calling this garbage art. Don't think its graffiti. They don't hit good spots, they aren't persecuted, they are really just belittling a subculture. Plus the whole suburban mom Knitta Please name is ignorant and racist. go home
MIsdirected anger aside isn't it ignorant of you to assume that anyone and everyone that would do this is a woman and that some how by doing their own thing and adding color to the public in a different way than more 'traditional' graffiti is in anyway offensive to you.
Hey I'm sorry i just never met any guy who enjoys spending his time knitting. they legalized gay marriage too so do what you gotta do. Graff is offensive in nature don't get mad because you now have to deal with haters like everyone else who does it.
define the ironic, its got no message and it lame, get some talent
"Irony (from the Ancient Greek εἰρωνεία eirōneía, meaning hypocrisy, deception, or feigned ignorance) is a literary or rhetorical device, in which there is an incongruity or discordance between what one says or does and what one means or what is generally understood. Irony is a mode of expression that calls attention to the character's knowledge and that of the audience."
being offensive is part of graff sugar. if your gonna do it get over it. not everyone likes public vandalism. don't worry about talent, you don't have any.
Too bad your 'talent' at being obnoxious far out weights anything else worth while you might do... oh wait, flaming youtube is soooooooo worthwhile I forgot.
Let this anonymous person bow down before the unknown greatness your anonymous person must be. I'm such a fool it was all about childish insults and writing on the walls with crayons the whole time!
Wouldn't it be a better rebuttal if you feel strongly about your graff to actually do some that states your opinion here and post it?
u guy r great! keep up the good work!

I think you have a problem with people being happy and seeing the positive in things, is there a reason being happy and hopeful is offensive?
