Our economy here in Houston is among the best in the country right now. I paid $219 a gallon for gas today. How many of you in other states can say that??? I checked Gallup Monday and Obama's overall approval rating as of that day was 53%. On the surface, this number is not so great compared to most presidents at this point in their first term, but when you consider all the problems we're facing, our financial insecurity, the relentless attacks in the media, etc, etc, etc, it's actually surprisingly good.
If the economy does turn around, he's bound to be back up around 65%.

The world has cooled in the last ten years and when it was heating up it was doing it at a time when CO2 emissions were decreasing. The scientists who sign up to climate change do so in order to get funding from governments eager to have an excuse for greater taxation. QuitePatriot...Japan, Denmark, France, Canada, Australia, Switzerland, Sweden etc all have excellent thriving countries. they lean socialist very strongly.. I have been living in Japan for the last year and a half and will be here for at least another year more, maybe longer... Its average standard of living is way better than Americas..

If you want fair, then live in a socialist economy, that way everyone shares in the poverty. Thats the fundmental difference between the two forms of economy. Look at the quality of life, health, and happiness in socialist democracies like denmark, switzerland, etc. Some socialist democracies are the happiest on earth. Those countries are also not world powers let alone a super power that the United States is. It is our founding principals of hardwork to earn the fruits of your labor. The founding fathers had a choice of gov's to chose from. They wisely chose a Republic. Earn what you keep, Keep what you earn, without the Gov't taking and redistributing it.
I agree that we have different ideals; to us giving up $ for the common good is not legit. It is for them, and they are happier, live longer, and get more time off, and have less poverty. They arent superpowers but thats not a problem, they are safe because people dont hate them. We have a crazy child poverty rate, obesity, staggering amounts of people who cant get health care. Theyre not perfect, but I would take happier and safer any day. Were not as happy despite our power and resources.
People dont always make the best choices, but they are free to chose. People hate America until they need something,money, food, defense. The United States leads the world in innovations and that is due to the free market system, as well as advances in healthcare. I would not want the Gov determining the level of my healthcare or have that kind of personal information at any cost. Besides, the Gov mis-manages every single program they run.

Its not so much giving up $ to support those without, that can be handled through chairty or a voluntary fund that people could donate to. .But diminishing my benefits that are part of my compensation package which I earn is not fair to me or my family. Especially if it is forced on me through a tax. And the additional cost to employers would mean a cut or outright loss of benefits of those employees.
One more thing, Ive spent 12 years in Canada which leans toward socialism as well... I would move there, or stay here in Japan if it wasnt for my friends and family or language barriers.. Really, the standard of living is better for the average person in those two countries, of course it is, taxing the rich and giving to the poor cuts crime, illness and ignorance...

I checked Gallup Monday and Obama's overall approval rating as of that day was 53%. On the surface, this number is not so great compared to most presidents at this point in their first term, but when you consider all the problems we're facing, our financial insecurity, the relentless attacks in the media, etc, etc, etc, it's actually surprisingly good.
If the economy does turn around, he's bound to be back up around 65%.

Marriage is nothing but a title to gays. If gays want to go out and have "marriage" ceremony and commit to eachother for a life time, not one single government official could stop them. QuitePatriot...Japan, Denmark, France, Canada, Australia, Switzerland, Sweden etc all have excellent thriving countries. they lean socialist very strongly.. In most of the countries, as compared with the US, violent crimes are lower, poverty is less, educational opportunites are better on average, and they have better access to health care.
I do have beliefs and values, they come from reason and are not dictated from arbitrary desert scribblings. Science, philosophy and history make my morality

I have been living in Japan for the last year and a half and will be here for at least another year more, maybe longer... Its average standard of living is way better than Americas..

Capitalism rewards those who work. Nobody said it has to be fair. If you want to suceed you can, it takes effort and hard work. If you want fair, then live in a socialist economy, that way everyone shares in the poverty. Thats the fundmental difference between the two forms of economy. It may not be "perfect" but it leads the world in everything. Innovation from the U.S. has raised the standard of living for all. What other economy comes close, none.

I agree that we have different ideals; to us giving up $ for the common good is not legit. It is for them, and they are happier, live longer, and get more time off, and have less poverty. They arent superpowers but thats not a problem, they are safe because people dont hate them. We have a crazy child poverty rate, obesity, staggering amounts of people who cant get health care. Theyre not perfect, but I would take happier and safer any day. Were not as happy despite our power and resources.

Its not so much giving up $ to support those without, that can be handled through chairty or a voluntary fund that people could donate to. .But diminishing my benefits that are part of my compensation package which I earn is not fair to me or my family. Especially if it is forced on me through a tax. And the additional cost to employers would mean a cut or outright loss of benefits of those employees.

The comment about giving our country away was in reference to Gov. handout programs. The Welfare system was intended to be a temporary program.But temp. Gov programs tend to be permanent. We pay people not to work, so why should they take a job at min wages when they can make the same by not working. We are approaching the point where there will not be enough workers to support those on handouts. What happens when the handout recievers outnumber those who work?

The younger generations- my generation, is going to legalize gay marriage. We simply have different views on it- it's a natural progression for civil rights. Sometimes people are stuck in their ways, but it doesn't matter what our parents or grandparents believed- a generation shapes its own ideas regardless of old morals.
