@MegaThrowaway The u-boats suffered major losses because the nations which were against Germany specialized only in anti-submarine warfare. You need to have a combined fleet to win a war on the great seas. I wouldn't say the German u-boats became obsolete. They still outclassed every Allied submarine and the technollogy behind it was copied by all winning nations after the war. The first nuclear submarines were all influenced by the late German u-boats.
WOW they really had New York on their sights. Almost managed to do another Pearl Harbour.
