DSLRs are really a great step up. My biggest complaint is size. I'm gonna look at the new Olympus Pen series..near DSLR quality, interchangeable lenses, about the size of my G9... once it matures and they get another model or two out.
Thanks for the post. I live in the Caribbean and have only been diving a couple times since quitting my dive instructor / boat captain gig since I've already done at least a thousand dives where I live. I got the camera and housing as a way to get interested in getting back in the water.
And yes, you're right: The camera does great high-res video. I'm going to give it a shot tomorrow.
I have a ton of small silica packs that come in Cisco AP mounting kits. They're perfect!
I removed one comment from today... foul language... apparently complaining about the tint of the video. This was simply an example video, it's not an attempt at a good video... it was the first time I had the camera underwater... just point and shot.
On resolution. I think it was at low resolution, then to movie maker and reduced further, then to Youtube which made it look worse... the camera shoots much better video. My low res stuff on my blog looks better.... google 'kona dive blog'.
I've got the Canon case. It seems they're getting tougher to get ahold of. My wife just got a G9 a couple weeks back and had to go to an ebay seller to find it.
Did you actually set the white balance beforehand (custom or underwater) for this clip or did you leave it on auto (because it looks rather blue still)?
I am camera shopping right now and the G9 is on the top of the list. The underwater case is a great selling point. I was curious however of the depth in which it can function?
G9 is a Awesome camera I love mine BUT I am going to sell it and get a Canon DSLR

This is an old video, can't remember all the specifics. Cannon G9 in Canon housing. Shallow water, underwater setting, no external lights.

Excellent stuff. Few questions as I'm about to purchase this today:
- What depth were you at?
- Did you use the original casing that came with Canon?
- Any external lights here?
Thanks

This was so long ago. I don't remember if I had it on auto or underwater white balance, but I didn't try anything custom.

Down to 130' or so, check the specs on the housing, it should be listed on any website that sells it.
