The thing is that Claudia (and also, indirectly, Louis) murdered another vampire (Lestat), and the punishment for that is to be let out in the sun to burn: a horrible death in vampire terms. And Lestat knew the little brat was dead because he was her father, he had created her: he had to know and even if it hadn't been so, he'd had known it anyway: it's LESTAT we're talking about ;-)

And remember that Louis, while he would always love Claudia as a daughter, realized that after all these years passed by, she had mentally matured and was "grown up". Lestat never realized this, and continued to see her as a child, his little girl. That, of course, added to her resentment of him.

I don't think it's a question of being retarded: somebody is not retarded because they refuse to kill. The thing is Louis has not let his humanity go yet, and I don't think he ever will. And though Lestat mocks at him and brags about his own wickedness and superiority to humans, he is the most human of all, even + than Louis. Lestat loves humans, pities & envies them, sometimes admires & takes care of many them too. And (sthg he'll never say), he NEEDS them, and not just because of the blood

agreed. most people miss the entire point. Lestat is not simply an evil killer who feels nothing. Lestat not only feels and cares, he feels and cares too much. Lestat is the most human of all. He has extraordinary depth and complexity. He feels love, loss, sadness, sorrow, and he also has his charismatic, charming side to him where he feels so pompous and sure of himself. All of that is what makes Lestat such a complex personality, one of the most human fictional characters ever.

Lestat was better. Louis agreed to became a vampire and Lestat was forced by Magnus to drink blood. Besides if you read other books you will see that Louis lied in many things about Lestat in his interview

Yes, Lestat actually has even more depth than Louis. There is so much that Louis failed to perceive about Lestat. All he saw was Lestat's facade and when he did see more, he still dismissed Lestat as a crazy villain. Louis completely misunderstood him, like a lot of people do, even after reading his story, most people still think he's cool for the wrong reasons. They miss the point entirely. Lestat is the best character because of his extraordinary depth and multi-dimensionality.

Totally. But in spite of all, Louis loves Lestat, and Lestat loves him more. They drive each other crazy sometimes, but that bond will never break between those two. LOVE, in the most basic human sense, above anything else...

When i was reading "vampire Lestat"  i was really sorry for him, cause literally every one single person that he loved forsook him, even his own mother, but i think it also made him person who do not pity for himelf.

Yes the entire point of his story is to make us understand him, feel sympathy for him, empathize with him, and admire him. His story is very sad, and he's suffered more than the average person because Lestat is so human and feels and thinks so deeply. And through it all, Lestat tries to make the best of what fate has imposed upon him. He has never fit in and sees the absurdity of the world, but keeps going his own way in it. That is why he is the hero of the Chronicles.

And Louis only saw the facade of Lestat in "Interview". There were many hints given about Lestat's deeper character, there is far more to him than meets the eye, but Louis was so focused on his own feelings that he failed to perceive Lestat's. He didn't understand what he saw. Lestat feels very alone, and he does feel immense sadness and sorrow, but on the exterior he is charming and seems careless. Louis failed to realize Lestat's complexity.

@eternalgarnet so true. i just finished merrick and when it got to the part about claudia's diary i was like wow she resented and loved both of them but in the movie it looks like she loved louis and hated lestat. louis is just the easier one to manipulate. lestat is like an onion he has so many layers
