  • Precioso :)

  • 6:05 Justin hits himself in the face with the guitar and I still had goosebumps all over

  • Comment removed

  • can we please stop feeding the troll!

  • I was so happy that I found out without wanting to find out what is the song at the start and I've got here and see that someone posted 7 months ago ¬¬

    #fail

  • He reminds me a lot of Glen Hansard at the very beginning.

  • just make incomprehensible sounds for 30 seconds, then go back to amazing.

  • Mikeys voice makes me quiver with excitement! You all amaze me. I truly understand everything you do. Thanks again!

  • The thing is... ...what he's communicating requires no one specific language.. you can feel it...

  • @BonIverSUCKS You are what every troll wants to be. You obviously have a lot of free time, because very Bon Iver video ever has a comment form you. Bravo.

  • @BonIverSUCKS your mind may be hollow and vapid. seriously, do you have nothing better to do than to troll Bon Iver videos on youtube? you must be a very empty individual.

  • @BonIverSUCKS come on Justin, no need to be jealous..

  • @BonIverSUCKS dude, why don't you go troll a justin bieber video or something? seems strange that you hate bon iver enough to make an account about it.. or do you really love him?

  • Cheap bastards walking away...they should empty their wallets instead.

  • never believed in angel until i saw this

  • Why are they walking away? WHY?!

  • what guitar is that, anybody?

  • @samalderton20 It's one of the higher end Martin acoustics modeled after the older Martins. I'm too lazy to look up the model but I'm sure it won't be hard for you to Google.

  • This reminds me of a scene from the movie "Once"; just a group of people huddled together listening to a beautiful tune, for the simple fact that it's bound to be good for the soul.

  • Why can't I sing like that?!

  • Does anybody know what the song is that Justin is playing in the first minute? It's beautiful.

  • @thebasementmusicians

    Olive Hearts by Bowerbirds

  • Why wasn't I there!!

  • what is the black haired guy playing what is his instrument called maybe even modell number??

  • @RoDiMoDi1122 melodica

  • Comment removed

  • a monstrosity of a joint in his ear!

  • @manutdtreble7 The moment I saw that it, I immediately thought the same thing! :D Is it??

  • I love the how Justin never sings a song the same, always with different notes and a tonne of emotion.

  • When I watch this video I like imagining myself sitting on that floor on that moment after a long trip just to watch them.

  • god I wish I could be there right now :(

  • Those people there, they're the luckiest people alive.

  • This recording rips my heart out..beautifully.

  • Bookmarded!

  • as pathetic as it sounds i hate how popular he is

  • @nawbruv i know what you mean

  • @nawbruv People usually call people who say things like that hipsters. But I get it, I can really feel the same about some artist. Not about Bon Iver though, because I'm from Sweden and he still isn't that big here... Yet.

  • @Xilog There's nothing I hate more than hipsters...

I think everyone feels that about artists though. Also, what makes it more annoying is that hipsters now seem to listen to him :/

  • @nawbruv

Don't really get your point here.

  • Répondre à cette vidéo...

...and again, that's kind of "hipster's" reaction. And again, what is the "hipster" standard? So annoyed by this kind of arguments. Keeping one beloved artist is narcissic and selfish. When I find something beautiful I want to share it to the world.

  • @taila1976 well done mate...?

  • @Xilog What about nazis? They are pretty bad people. And complaining about an artist you enjoy getting a little more popular is a pretty hipster move.

  • @orthgatha What about nazis? :S

  • The song at the start is 'olive hearts' by the bowerbirds

  • Bes flume.

  • nevermind, too lazy too scoll down one page...

  • whats he playing at the start of this video anybody?

  • @0806322f At the start Justin's playing a song called Olive Hearts by Bowerbirds, fantastic band themselves.

  • thiz iz some guud sheet

  • I think he gets a little bit too into it at 6:05...

  • Wow I was just looking at mum ford and sons, thought Marcus was big but Justin IS A BEAR

  • Every.Single.Time.

    Brilliant.

  • @qwertybl0b Thanks - and seeing as I am probably a geriatric amongst the Bon Iver fan population and I hail from the southwest coast of Ireland it shows how their music and performance reaches a huge spectrum of people on so many levels - great to get to share some of their magic.

  • Scott...don't post more than once on one video...sends the wrong messages. Like right now, your freaking me out. when are you coming south? you freak me out, like almost creepy and weird but not really only sometimes and occasionally.

  • Makes you feel good.

  • what was the song that bon iver was playing at the beginning of this video? at 0:14 ?

  • @xoxcaliluv olive hearts by the bowerbirds..im pretty sure, maybe.

  • i feel like these people don't realize how lucky they are

  • please don't sell out please don't sell out please don't sell out *fingers crossed*

  • @pcmorris1000 he's doing a duet with kanye west

  • @pcmorris1000 i think it might be too late for that. He has been working with Kanye West, autotuning and all of that crap. its upsetting to see such a talent almost wasted

  • The song he plays on his own at the start is 'olive hearts' by the bowerbirds :)

  • I think it's simply music at its finest. Beautiful vocally, musically, soulfully....if you appreciate music, you will appreciate Bon Iver. Their music really penetrates the surface and lingers on the soul.

  • Lol he screws up the first line of the song, GJ Justin, I do that all the time when I play Flume too, glad to know you aren't actually perfect :-)

I gotta say, to someone who doesn't know the band, when they start freaking out at the song break they must be thinking these guys are insane.

  • Someone please tell me what guitar he is using. thanks

  • 5:04 - the guy drinking there feels cool as fuck he's thinking 'yeah I have Bon iver playing in my house, I'm drinking, I'm soo getting laid tonight, yeahhhhh'

  • wow, i wish bon iver came to my parties:)

  • the thing that gets me the most about Bon Iver (or anything that justin does) is that even the mistakes just add more to the music. he can't do anything wrong. i'm convinced that he could drop his pants and take a shit on his guitar in the middle of a song, and it would still be beautiful and intimate.

i also think that the reason he is so lovable is that he seems like just an ordinary guy that anyone can relate to. he seems totally approachable. he's the embodiment of everyone's hidden beauty..

  • What makes Bon Iver so popular within the counter culture music world? It is simple. Humans have natural instincts. We can sense danger. We can sense a shift in attitudes. And we can sense artistic genius. Like God tapping us on the shoulder and saying "Hey... that. That is my doing." We instinctively know, this is beyond ordinary. It is why the word extraordinary exists... to define the fortunate discovery of that which is uniquely brilliant. That is Bon Iver.

  • @Razorback613 Please dont give some god the credit for this genious. Justin deserves it. That was unfair.

  • @elmatto2006 You are being ridiculous. I am deeply anti-religion. It is an expression, nothing more.

  • @elmatto2006 Couldn't agree more. And I love the fact that Justin himself isn't religious, because it just goes to prove that religion & faith really has nothing to do with everything beautiful and wonderful in this world.

  • @elmatto2006 that's not what he meant. God isn't a creature. It is a power that we all have inside us that binds us together and gives us strength.

  • @Razorback613

    how shit,...beautifully said.

  • it's just kind of awesome how he was playing Bowerbirds at the beginning. Even if the lyrics were completely incorrect.

  • @ilovemutemath Can you tell me which Bowerbirds song this is at the beginning? it's amazing

  • @FrankmanCo9 Olive Hearts. It's a gorgeous song.

  • probably the most beautiful song of all time.

  • gosh. what guitar is he playing?

  • @aubreywithoutYou Looks a bit like a Taylor from the outline of a logo at the top. Something like the GC3?

  • this song is so beautiful it makes me cry. i can't even handle it.

  • their harmonization is always so undeniably beautiful.

  • utterly transfixing..

  • Olive Hearts by Bowerbirds at the beginning. That's awesome.

  • Those Frenchies didn't know what the hell hit them.

  • Best live band ever!

  • whats the name of that Bowerbirds' song? Anyone please?

  • olive hearts, i think. if you ever want to find the name of a song just type in any words you know of it into a google search :) works every time

  • cheers got it

  • northern lights?

  • Get shivers everytime I hear this band play live. Just amazing.

  • MAGIC!!!

  • it is

so cool that he's doing a bowerbirds cover at the beginning.

    i love breakdowns. they're amazing.

  • @ilovemutemath I was trying to figure out who that cover was off, thanks so much for telling me. Bowerbirds are brilliant, One of my ideal gigs would be Bon Iver, (with the full line up, not just Justin) Bowerbirds and Megafaun, all at a gig like this, that would be amazing!

  • i like bon iver a lot.. but lately i've been trying to kinda pinpoint what about them has gotten such a following. and the only thing i've been able to figure out is that maybe the reason people love them so much is that they CAN'T figure out exactly what it is. they just naturally suck you on, and you're hooked.

  • or maybe because he lived in a cabin for 3 months. I love them, but i've kinda got over that. Of course, many people must have.

  • There is something to be said for Justin's breakout album. It's not like this type of album is produced every day. It's an album that could have only been made on 4track in a cabin. it's an album that people can relate to, being in a place where you're just not comfortable, nothing is working out and then finally, just discharging all of that into whatever creative space you have.

  • @SkotNewbower they have the power to unite the crowd and musicians into one

  • it's not what they're about, but how people relate to the music. It still goes to show that in a world full of terrible media, something that's honest and can truly speak to people can still get popular.

  • @SkotNewbower Exactly! I think when we hear music that is so beautifully honest we hear humanity ringing through. Justin's growing appeal is a meausre of our ability to hear him, ourselves, and all of humanity in his voice. His music, like all truly GREAT music, is divine in it's ability to unite souls.

  • @SkotNewbower Beautiful singing and harmony, beautiful lyrics, and all around beautiful music. What's not to love? :P

  • @SkotNewbower You could very well be right. However I've always leaned more towards the theory that people like them because they're real. Something about the sound of Justin's songwriting is just so natural feeling, it's warm and comforting, yet haunting and thought provoking at the same time. But it's taken me some time to come to that conclusion, so like I said, it's possible that you're right. Interesting idea though, I'm gonna give it some more thought.

  • @SkotNewbower That's exactly it. There is something so basic about Bon Iver's music, not in the sense that is it simple, but rather in the sense that the way you connect with it is so fundamental. It's almost tribal, it feels so natural.

  • @SkotNewbower they definitely sucked me on

  • @hankvessel *off

  • @aj19fleming exactly

  • @SkotNewbower Food for the soul man, something about them just does you good, there like medicine in musical form.

  • @SkotNewbower There's nothing flashy or fancy about Bon Iver. It's a common man's band, doing it well and expressing themselves. Thats what people are looking for these days in tough times.

  • @SkotNewbower I think's it's their sincerity - they genuinely LOVE the music, the creation, the process, the experience, the sharing through the music and there is absolutely no ego whatsoever involved. It's pure and sincere and true - that's how it connects so deeply The back-to-basics approach to musical expression with no dressing, no processing, no filtering - just a shared true experience that their audience seems so a part of. O to share such an intimate gig with them.

  • @SkotNewbower YES. that must explain why I have been sitting here for two hours listening to them when I should be going to bed!

  • @SkotNewbower for me its those harmonies, and justins voice. It just sits on top of the music so well, his strength in the falsetto is brilliant

  • @SkotNewbower Suck you on? LOL

  • @ANeonTiger I'd let Justin suck me on any day. No homo.

  • i would die right then and there i'd be so happy.

  • i love how he is covering the bowerbirds :-)

  • his satchel is bad ass :0

  • Oh my goosh at 6:07 he kind of wacks himself in the face with his guitar. amazingly funny.

  • This would probably be the greatest experience of my life.

  • Hey does anyone out there know what that lil keyboard thing with the tube that the guy is blowing in, called?

  • it's called a melodica

  • awe sweet!!!! Thanks man

  • melodica

  • haha he messed up the first line! still sweet though

  • He actually messes up the lyrics a lot in their live performances. It's kind of charming, though, and the music is uniformly excellent.

  • this song reminds me barcelona!nostalgic...

  • fuck haters, that improv was needed. the chaos makes the chords sound so clean. i love how this music grows on you

  • omg amazing bowerbirds cover!

  • Bon Iver is perfect. I love everything they do...even the mistakes. Well done!

  • bon iver doesn't have a clue how to improvise, that keyboard player has a better idea of it

    still a beautiful performance

  • Lol, Bon Iver is the name of the band

  • it's not supposed to be an actual improvisation they're just making noise

  • Thank you for pointing that out so I didn't have to. Are these people fucking retarded?

  • Well one could argue that just making noise is, in fact, improv. It's not written music so therefore it is being improvised, even if it is not pleasent.

  • @kintar90 are you trying to start an arguement cos i'll end you- with abuse

  • @mooglesarerabbits

You're an ass. If you don't appreciate this music you don't have to keep picking comment-fights with everyone who disagrees with your opinion.

I'm curious to know how exactly you plan on abusing me? I'm sure your fickle mind will think of something quite nice, and then moments later realize that you are a speck of shit in the comment section of an internet video that was posted 2 years ago.

    Merry Christmas.

  • have you heard the album version? it's exactly the same.

so it's not so much an improvisation as it is a planned chaotic convulsion of sounds.

i'm sure if he was trying to improvise he'd do more than just bang on his guitar and make inaudible noise.

  • i love the performance, i just really don't like that improv they do in the middle, kind of ruins it for me

  • What is the song he sings at the start?????

  • olive hearts by bowerbirds

  • they're like,

    bff's right?

    JUSTINxVERNON and xxBOWERBIRDSxx , right?

  • @KensingtonSam I KNOW WHAT, did he just improve the beginning? It's so beautiful.

  • @Iscutiecab Omfg. It's a cover of Bowerbirds by Olive Hearts.

  • This is why people don't like Americans. See how attentive this audience is: listening, feeling, understanding. You go to shows in most clubs here in the U.S. and you can't hear over all the chit-chat and bottles clinking and such.

  • Couldn't agree more. Unless you go to a loud rock show or something. I saw Abe Vigoda live, and no one could speak because the music was so loud. It was perfect.

  • Ever weary of the cool that infiltrates our music... but Justin is cool with this cheesehead, for what its worth... :) Don't ever quit! Never, Never, Never!

  • Slowly becoming a fan, in the fanatical sence of the word... :)

  • i no right? the more you listen to it the more you start loving it, i love bands like that because it's hard to get sick of it (unlike catchy songs which you listen intensely for a few weeks then forget about it)

  • amazing cover by bowerbirds! in the biginning

  • this is music :) he never sings a song the same way twice. he just plays what hes feeling at the time. reminds me of dallas greene :)

  • okay?

  • dont listen to rocklobster.

  • Ils ont vraiment l'air d'apprécier l'endroit où ils jouent.

  • what a talent.

  • where are they?

  • Montmartre in Paris.

  • melodica = perfection! god, i wish i was there!!!

  • ...why do they do that little fun bit near the end lol. they look funny : P

  • its really effective

  • i like how he mixes up the lyrics all the time.

  • I wish I could do this

  • whats the song justin is singing at the start?

  • I think is Olive Hearts by Bowerbirds

  • i don't know what to say, wish i had been there

  • i love this song more and more everything i listen to it.

  • Love the use of melodica. Badass.

  • Anyone know if like all of these videos are on a dvd or anything??

  • They're not, as far as I know.

You can watch them on itunes, though.

  • i really love the mood of all of their songs, it's so perfect

  • you guys are simply the best.... feel good music all the way... cheers!

  • You've got the best videos. I spend hours just cruising through all of your videos. The National, Bon Iver, Sufjan Stevens, etc...

Thank you very much for these, it is very much appreciated. Great intimate moments captured in time! Please please please keep up the great work!
