I remember hearing this song somewhere ages ago and being annoyed by it. I think I might have had to learn it in primary school, because the assumption was that we would laugh with joy at the opportunity to sing nonsense over a 12-Bar Blues. Too wrong. Good to see that there's that nice cultural influence going on, and that it's not written solely to be annoying.
I sounded much more harsh than I intended. Certainly didn't mean to knock her or NZ for that matter. Its an amazing phenomenon to think that music that evolved from indigenous street culture, sung in a dialect lost to history, in the very neighborhood I have lived in for the past 25 years somehow got captured and integrated into a recording that had enough pop appeal to get the notice of 60s era teens half way around the world is an amazing phenomenon and a testament to the power of this art.
Wow Dinah, see you are releasing a new recording, can't wait. You are a great performer today and we still love you, I guess some people get real jealous of your excellent talent. Thought you were just fabulous at the Concert in Christchurch two weeks ago over 130,000 people loved you, I guess it's time for another hit, lets rub some salt into that brain dead comment made previously on this page......Dinah lives on.......have another hit ..we want it........
Ah, what a success story...from a typist to an International Pop/Rock Star.....Go Dinah you have what it takes and are a great success story in the New Zealand & Australian Music Industry. Can't wait to hear you upcoming record release, and the other great news for 2011 that is coming for you....what a winner you are...of course their are always some miserable low life rats that make jealous comments....Obviously the comment below is from a wrinkled Baboon.....Don't You Know Yockomo lives on..
This withered old twit hangs like grim death onto this song which has no understandable lyrics. She just opens her stupid gob and asking if you know yockomo. She used to be a typist at Princess Margaret Hospital in Christchurch, NZ in the very early '60's. Should have stayed there!
Kool Dinah. Dinah Lee is from New Zealand, and lives in the land of Oz, and knocked the Beatles off the Charts down under, with 4 number 1's in a row. Queen of the Mods for your information - and still rockin xxx

there is a saying "that what is too stupid to be spoken is sung" and this goes for most songs
