This one is certainly better than the 70's,the strength of the film is the recreations of student protests. But,too many cliched, soap opera moments.I think sisto and o'connell give the best performances. Its mostly hit and miss, but the ending is an atrocious cop out.The 70's had a great opening 10 minutes, then becomes even more ridiculously cliched as the 60's.They had a chance to end the 70's powerfully, with the girl remaining brainwashed, but yet another cop out happy ending.
I was hoping the whole movie would be posted on YouTube. I would like to know the song that is played while Brian is playing football in the beginning. Would anyone happen to know? It's not played during this video. It's a female voice or female band. Thanks.

What is the name of that song in the beggining?? It evokes a feeling of nostalgia within me and I wasnt even born until the 60s has been over for 21 years!!!
Wow, this is such a great movie, I was hooked till the end, loved every moment of it, great drama, I randomly watched it on MGM and I wonder how I've never heard about this movie before... Should have received an Oscar.
TRIVIA ALERT - Did anyone else notice in the Woodstock footage when Brian is brought in to the "bad trip recovery tent" that the real Wavy Gravy talks to him while the actor playing him as he was in 1969, is just in the background glancing his way? Peace & Love, Bread & Justice to ALL!
@gopconservative78 No, the '60s were cool, I feel it was the '70s that sucked- bad fashion, bad economy, high crime, not much technological progress. The '60s had lots of great inventions, including what became the Internet. The '80s also provided the beginnings of '60s nostalgia as well. The '00s (2001-2010 in my terms) has mostly provided TECHNOLOGICAL change, meaning that people are gradually become serfs to the technological landlords, with ever-harder instructions and information overload.
The world is constantly changing. I have no idea what the 60s where like. It seems as though people set everything by decades. Maybe it's a way big business and the authorities have of controlling us.
@pigletized - Hello, I'm a "drugless flower child from the 60's" who now has a daughter who loves Winnie the Pooh. Does your name refer to the character of Piglet? The 60's had their positives and negatives. I choose to recall the sense of brotherhood with others working for positive social changes and encouraging all people to live in peace and harmony. It was a very interesting time. Best Wishes.
@mjcamck71Hello love! It refers to my adoption of Vietnamese potbellied pigs as well as disabled and unwanted animals and of course I love Winnie the Pooh! I admire you for replying and enlightening me. Thank You.
@pigletized - Hello. Okay.. Now I understand. Thank you for caring about the animals. As we said in the infamous 60's, Peace & Love, Bread & Justice for ALL.
I can't believe this movie came out in 99', i was only 13 at the time, but remember watching it with my family. It such a good movie, anyone who hasn't seen it yet should definitely watch it.
The absolute best movie ever. It's both funny, sad and dramatic. I just finished watching it in history class today and almost cried at a million different parts. It really was a great movie. It demonstrated that time period really well. All the way from Vietnam to the hippies at Woodstock.
WE HAD TO WATCH THIS MY WORLD STUDIES CLASS ITS AN AMAZING FILM OF WHAT SEEMS LIKE A AMAZING GENERATION. ITS SO INSPIRATION. THANKS Mr.MEHL FOR MAKIN US WATCH THIS
I watched this in history class. Good movie, but a lot of people in my class are ignorant to drugs (marijuana and LSD) ..they think they're all addicts and stupid hippies.
I really dislike my generation. Well, more so government propaganda..
My grandparents told me how my generation is a terrible one and how their generation did so much. I asked them with all the respect in the world....your generation raised mine didn't they? And your generation has been in charge of this country? Who is at fault? My generation or yours?
@Mizvictor07 Every generation builds from the next, so really no one is to blame. And maybe one of the reasons your grandparents said terrible things about your generation is because they just don't understand it.
@Mizvictor07 The 60s gen. enacted change--at great cost to society--which successive gens. took for granted. Today's gen. has its own issues--global economy, increased population means killer competition for fewer opportunities, making you more aggressive than your elders, which they see. Personal liberties from the 60s-90s will soon disappear; some already have; they won't be possible with today's realities. Lessening leisure time, higher cost of living ..noone's fault;it's just how it is..
I enjoy the history of the sixties mainly because it was like a diffrent set of culture all in itself. I enjoyed reading about the war,and the protesters. Watching documentaries, especially this T.V. movie documentary. I love the sixties, because people went out of their way to help those needing their fellow man. I feel disrespect is relevent in any generation, but I look past that part mainly because it will never change, its a human nature thing.
I would never have done half the things to other people that the youth do now." because youth did horrible things back then too. My opinion is that each generation has it's problems and some have gotten better since the 60's like racism/sexism...but some have gotten worse like being disrespectful. I would have been so proud to have been a teen during the 60's and show that I worked for what I believed in. Our generation today does nothing compared to what they did.
I totally agree. everything the youth did back then was seen as being "horrible" to the older generation. and compared to the youths today...they did ALOT. But I agree that the youths today are very disrespectful etc but I also agree that if people cared enough about it they could stand together and change it.
The youth in America didn't agree with something and they got up and protested. They changed the world. Isn't that crazy? We could do that too. Our generation could start protesting against teens being disrespectful or whatever you don't agree with. and what do you mean when you said "
He better deliver on all he promised!!!! I have a list of everything he claims he can fix, and the minute he does not, I will blast it online! Just like what happend to Pres. Bush from Day 1.
Going to Iraq was a big mistake why and the fuck are fighting a country that had nothing to do with 9/11 or dangerous missles,Were only out over there because bush want's to finish what his dad started.I don't care about what people say about me I always will support the troops no matter what my cousins went over there so I wouldn't have to.
You call this better. I like the days that families were not made out of wedlock, Drugs were looked down upon, People respected others and their elders, The cost of living was reasonable, If you were a good worker the jobs were endless. and most important, YOU TOOK CARE OF YOUR OWN BUSINESS, YOU DID NOT EXPECT THE GOVERNMENT OR THE TAXPAYERS TO PAY FOR YOUR OWN STUPIDITY!!!! That was the big change.
Well you could debate that point because I rather live back then. Life was better but I would have loved to live when all of this was going on. To be apart of this would be amazing! and I like some drugs and I still get good grades and live a sweet life.
Look at how disrespectful the youth of America act now as opposed to then. I would never have done half the things to other people that the youth do now. MY PARENTS KEY WORD "PARENTS" not "PARENT" raised me better than that.
I also have two parents and what are you trying to argue anyway? because of the 60's blacks have so many more rights unless you're racist than you probably don't care.
I love this movie. I'd really like to get the DVD. I looked on Amazon and for some reason it is like 100.00! Does anyone know where to get it, or watch it online?

amazon sells it for a ridiculous price of $50. I love this movie but I am hoping the price goes down.
