We regret to inform everyone of the passing of JR Mass, bass player in this video and brother to the chord player, Joe Jr., also playing here, on Jan. 5. Our deepest condolences to his family and brother Joe. The world has lost a true bass harmonica master.
I cannot believe that YouTube has Harmonicats videos. I was making a joke about digitilizing vinyl albums that would not otherwise be available, and used this as example from my dad's collection. I sit corrected.
I've been a Harmonicats fan since about 1948 or so and have most of their later albums on the Columbia label. I always loved their playing and still do.
I was fortunate enough to own five Hohner harmonicas, including the 64 Chromonica (which I still have), the double bass and the 48 chord model. Alas, I sold the double bass and 48 chord years ago and still regret it. They would cost quite a premium to replace today; the list price for both totals over $3400.
