It has got nothing to do with selfishness and everything to do with Art & Beauty.
The movie captures the life and times of Adi Shankara. There are sub-titles in almost all indians languages in addition to english, for those who don't understand Sanskrit - what more do people want ?
Why does everything have to be done in english. It's such a limited language plus most of our stories don't translate well to english.

First off I am unable to understand whatever you are trying to convey - What is preventing you from learning sanskrit today ? There are plenty of schools who would love you to enroll into a sanskrit language course. In addition there are tons of resources available on internet for free that can help you read & write sanskrit. I live in California where there are free classes held for people desirous of learning sanskrit.
Also, they don't ask your gotra to check if you are a Brahmin or not.
If people with Brahmin names don't want to live like Brahmins then it is their choice, where is the contradiction. BTW, just to be clear, who is stopping you from following vedas and learn sanskrit ?
I don't know where you live but if you are in US - you can get video taped lessons from Maharishi institute and learn sanskrit. Since you know some sanskrit therefore you know that it's a little tough to begin-with, but with effort one can always learn it.
Sanskrit is a strong language which was emphasized in the movie. This is the only Sanskrit movie.... but to make another version in english would be nice.... just keep the Mantras in Sanskrit and have English subtitles at those parts.

The Sama vedins recite the gayatri this way.

It doesn't have to sound this way - that depends on the individual. The sama-vedins use prachodayal instead of prachodayat.
There is a gaana form of gayatri as well which the sama-vedins use to chant the gayatri but they don't use the gaana form for gayatri jaapam.
