When my father read about this in the paper, he was cursing at the pilots for "cowardice" in bailing out. I guess it's easy to talk tough in a safe place, with the benefit of plenty of time to think about it. From the real footage though, it is evident that the pilots did not eject until their aircraft were irrevocably beyond their control; one, I believe, having its nose coming apart and the better portion of a wing sheered off.

As comment on the video absolute mistake by the pilot he lost control at 0:12 if he was at higher altitude it would not be a problem but he was too close to the ground when conducting such a dive.

Another incident from the same period was when the Russian nuclear sub was surrounded by agressive moves from US ships and russian commander ordered a nuclear tipped torpedo to be launched against US ships but his second officer and another high ranking officer on board the sub almost had to subdue him not to launch. @29Gixxer They will be mass produced in 2010 by the needs of the Russian Airforce. Orders are already placed. Same as some 400+ Mi28N helicopters and 4 nuclear class subs. Most of the Russian military ability is not advertised as the need for secrecy is an old Soviet trait that is still present. Russia hasn't tapped into its natural recources as of yet its recources are beyond beleif.

Yes the pilot ejected - but there were (I THINK) 14 people on the grounds that were killed - including a 10 year old girl - they never found her head. THIS was the accident that made ALL air shows STOP flying over the crowd - and Ukraine does not allow any more Russian air shows.

The pilot was foolish - he had a flame out of the left engine and STILL tried a maneuver that required full power (which he did not have) to pull out. He is probably tracking polar bears in the arctic by now!!
