It is a continuation of the old Robotech series from the 1980s,and overlaps slightly with the Invid section of that series. They were going to make more movies, but this was the only one produced as far as I know. You can buy the DVD.

Harmony Gold didn't have to buy the rights to make mor Robotech it's their creation using the three original anime and they own full rights (through Tatsunoko Pro) to both Southern Cross and MOSPEADA only one they have to be careful with is Macross. and saying that just because the Japanese do appretiate American works means that Americans helped create the anime style is ridiculous. in Japan anime just means animation
and it refers to all animated works, no matter what country it comes form. but as a lone word in english it signifies Japanese animation. And yes the Japanese did draw some inspiration from the west Tezuka (the grad father of anime) was inspired by Disney and Betty Boop (along with Hollywood movies and a very Japanese source of inspiration Takarazuka). And transformers is a difficult case because it was based on a Japanese toyline, and there are more Japanese shows then american ones now
Ok, sorry about my comment on it, Macross franchise is better than Robotech, it just makes me angry when someone critique something and they don't even know how to do something. And about jealous, I mean japanese people should be the ones calling this is a rip off or a shit, or whatever they want, they're the ones that make anime, not any of US, European, Latin American or anyone that do not draw manga or do anime's. IMO Robotech is very good for being a "Rip off" from Macross. No more fights!

Japanese are not the only ones that can make anime, and I might remind, the O.S Japs uses to make their anime (windows, mac or linux) were made by american people. Another fact after Hiroshima bomb who helped them to restore their cities and have new technology, american scientists went them to help... WRONG! Harmony gold has fought big west tooth and nail to keep Macross out of the states. Claiming originally that they were the originall creators and had copyrights. Bigwest has tried several times to bring Macross to the states and harmony gold has nearly gone bankrupt trying to keep them out. Introducing new charachters in the cast dosenn't make anything "original" it just means they are switching out the cast. The haydonites are the only thing that Harmony gold ever came up with on their own, but their ships look like have assed lego toys. The pilots are still flying the old alphas from southern cross for crying out loud. Harmony gold has been milking a dead cow for over 17 years and all they are getting is sour milk.
The Alphas are from MOSPEADA and Shadow Chronicles takes place cocurrently with the end of The New Generation, also I'd look at Harmony Gold's productions outside of Robotech if I were you, the adding of other series to Macross was neccesary for syndication, but now it has a life of it's own and is still popular even though the subbed OSM is also out on DVD, don't blame HG for that they just recognize a product that sells and make more stuff for it. Also look at the other sentinels races...
I was talking mostly about the fandom having a life of it's own, there are a lot of Robotech fans who don't even care about the Macross franchise (I'm not one of them). Besides there's the comics, video games the upcoming sequel to Shadow Chronicles. Robotech was also one of the best selling RPGs for Palladium for many years, so it does have a life of its own, like it or hate it, it has it's own fan base who want to see these products.
If Tobey is smart, he'll only lend his name and let someone who is very familiar with the books do the rest, since you cant go exactly the way the series went, the books add more descriptions for certain parts that lacked in the original series, like Roy fokker getting shot up and next we see him at Claudia's, in the book Roy did go to the hospital, only to quick patch up and left because they had more serious cases to work on. They'll have to add small details like that

Original Robotech fan here. Yes the song is from the original show, very cool that they used it. Look at the art, it totally beats the sentinals. I think its great, sequels can be horrible, this is an acheivement BRAVO!

I've got several of her CDs. but no I ment Reba's song... it's the one song of hers I actually like, basically I have a really cool intro for the video... where it fades from Janice singing the song at the end of the movie to Minmei singing it. but I have a lot of time finnishing it off

I liked this song, too. But Look up! The Sky is Falling is the best on the soundtrack in my opinion. At least he didn't use those awful Minmay songs.
