I want to ask you a question about paint thinner. I went to an art store to ask for some paint thinner, the lady gave me this really thick gloss like gel medium and said to use that with acrylics, But what you're using and what others use looks like a watery liquid, like the kind you would use when painting a house, but the girl at the art store said that you aren't supposed to use that one with acrylics its only for oil paints? So i guess I'm asking what type of paint thinner are you using?
@17thCenturyLlama I think maybe she just thinks in using it on paper and a gel thinner would be better, but i don't see how that would help, it just seems like it would make it even more thick, I'm really not sure..
Oooh this was really useful! Am getting my first today and was concerned about trying to do her face, though I used to paint/makeup/stagemakeup Real people a lot and often do for fun, for some reason trying it on a doll terrifies me XD there's a lot of the same points in here and some really useful tips (like paint chemistry) Thanks for making these!
@Opium1958 I would suggest using watercolor pencils to plan out your face-up before painting over it. Regular pencils I find tend to be difficult to erase if you make a mistake or want to re-do it.
It doesn't look like anyone replies to these comments, so I'll step in and say most BJD artists use tamiya gloss, which can be ordered on ebay, usually. :)
I heard someone say they used sculpey's polymer clay gloss. and I'm like. That does NOT sound right to me! [seeing as I use it often for my polymer projects] So I wanted to check with someone else before using it on the head, and potentially ruining it, and for the sake if it was something to use, if there were nicer products to use instead C:
I normally don't comment on videos, but I had to thank you so much for showing me how you use your thinner, I've been looking everywhere for some kind of help since I never get it right. Can't wait to try again after looking at this. Thank you very much

I was offended at the title, but then I saw the uploader and realized God was in the house.

Couldn't you use some of the improper techniques for certain effects as long as its not going to hurt your doll?

What gloss do you use for lips?
I'm thinking of buying a head to practice faceups on and I'm saving money to buy nice materials. I just dont want to buy a crap quality gloss C;

Don't forget, though, you can always test any product on the headcap if you're not sure bout it. ;)

Which colors of paint do you use? Do you use Mr. Color paints, or another brand?

how many faceups will one can of MSC be good for? (approximately)
I am kind of unsure about how to spray on the MSC so that it isn't too thick or too thin D:
