The Delta Queen is now a floating hotel, docked in Chattanooga Tennessee. She is in amazing condition, My wife and I stayed on her a few nights last week, and it was wonderful. She is fully operational and is able to travel at anytime only if the government will allow it. She is truly a spectacular vessel.
Great job Ted ! And yes, hearing Travis playing the DELTA QUEEN Waltz while going under the bridges is just enough to make you BaLL YOUR eyes out ! ;(
Ted, just watched this video for the umpty-umpth time, wonderful stuff. and Travis with the Delta Queen Waltz, makes a guy misty...Save the Delta Queen!
I have always enjoyed watching the DQ maneuvering from landings and up and down the river. There is something very graceful about her that words cannot describe. It is like watching ballet. Travis playing the calliope at the end is icing on the cake. I cannot imagine what it will be like after 2008 if the DQ is no longer allowed to operate. No more splashing paddlewheels, hissing steam winches, deep throated brass landing whistles, or sparkling loud music from the calliope. Save the Queen!
Thank you for posting this video. What an amazing organ, i have heard they were loud but this is really something. In europe it would be banned for health and safety, do you still grow cotton down your way, if so you will be needing to send a load over here for the government to wrap us all in
I am glad you liked the video and especially the steam calliope. It is a rare treat to get to hear it played and it can be heard for miles. Next year is supposed to be the last year that the boat will be allowed to operate because of an exemption to a federal law in the US. It will be a tragic loss if the exemption cannot be extended.
