ists really simple: that you can hear something is because the lever moves fast. i just connected my amplifyed output on the electromagnet coil which bears between the permanent magnets (the big metal thing, in the right corner).
i dismounted the disks, because it amplified the middle fequencies - would sound horrible ;)
To DarkStar: Using that like a speaker does scrape the disk, it has mere nanometers of clearance, which means if the disk were as big as the world, the reading head would be mm to cm from the disk. A single grain of dust would totally destroy all data in that small area. And trust me, in that little area, there's a ton of data, and since the HDD is 'written on' in circular patterns, a little bit of everything would be damaged.

haha, cool, I always though it scraped the data platter to produce sound, I guess I was wrong.
The platter is the black disk btw.
