Acid, Incense and balloons, Saturday Afternoon, People dancing everywhere, love is shouting "I dont care" Its a time for growing, and a time for knowing.
@robbeyredeye We all need to get back to that frame of mind,,,,but withOUT the acid. We can get back to it without heavy dope. Aint this just their best freakin song ever? Love it dearly. xx
This might sound a little dumb; if so, so be it:). But all these years later, I'm struck by the sheer quality of this music. It's rich and complex. The vocal harmonies and instrumental interplay (driven by Jack's powerful bass lines) are impressive, as are the lyrics. I love the live Woodstock version as well, but the studio rendition is of course more precise --
Most influential album of my young life. Had an original promo copy that my ahole dad broke (sorry dad but even at fifty I'll never forgive that one). Now Ive got it on my MP3 player only thing missing is a big 4 fingered bag of columbian.
Yeah, this one takes me back. A time when music had a mission: universal turning-on and, lest we forget, love. And the musicians were into it more than for the money. Some say this was not a commercially-successful album for the group, as if that has to be the true measure of the brilliance contained there-in. We live. We hope.
funny how at woodstock they say " give you caps of orange" and in this one it's caps of blue. Orange sunshine is a name of a kind of LSD that I think they are talking about.
In 1970 I had to paint this airplane on several t-shirts. It's a very intricate drawing to paint on a t-shirt for a 13 year old. I believe I got like 5 bucks a shirt.
This very Jefferson Airplane album is still among my favorite albums of all time, especially for when it was released.
that SUMMER OF LOVE had i believe nearly 30,000 converge in golden gate park, ginsburg, airplane, dead, ect, all like some ancient, germanic tribe gathering,NEVER HAS THIS HAPPENED IN OUR KNOWN WORLD,PEOPLE WERE DRAWN THERE,THE ENERGY OF CHANGING THE WORLD,THE WAR,STOPPING THE NIXON MONSTERt must have been cosmic, unexplainable, then woodstock, then it crashed, like berlin, with hitler, dazzling, full of light, then the republicans, evil war went on,but we tried,we did,"love is shouting,i don't care"
Maybe it is something like "Exile On Main St.". Many say that it is the best Rolling Stones album.
I say, who needs "Exile" when there are "Let It Bleed" and "Beggars Banquet"... Someone can say the same about "Pillow" and "After Bathing At Baxter's".
@TheIlkka I couldn't listen to Zappa on acid. That is a crime against his amazing music. But listening to Hendrix or this on acid might be interesting.
Good morning, do you like sixties? Listen and pod cast my program " great sound of 60' s " on the site plumfm. Greeting and made blooper in rock and roll. Salut, vous aimez les sixties ? Ecoutez et podcatez mon émission "le super son des sixties" sur plum fm. Salut et faites gaffe au rock'n roll
Just for the record. Sony Music are morons. Not allowing this to be played on FB. I usually pull those down immediately from my wall. Good for them I'm feeling charitable today. ;)
Hey folks, it's JeffersonAirplane's time again. The wind is blowing them back round again. They're starting to remember how good this band were. They could do and did everything. They inspired so many other artists.
Ask a brazilian to translate it for you.
@MarcosBorgesViana I won't waste my time, mate. I'm sure I'd be disappointed with your reply anyway. I'm just gonna light one up and listen again to one of my favourite songs from one of my favourite bands and.......WON'T YOU TRY and not bother me again.
I was just in High School listening to this song, and it still hits me right in the heart. The question it asks is the same. Will you abandon yourself to love one more time no matter how badly you've been hurt? Won't you try? And the song says, "All is new. I'll come through for you, My Love!"
A classic for sure...strange and beautiful at the same time...they played it excellent at Woodstock too...God, I miss these guys. To bad I was too young to see them live...saw the '89 reunion tour which was good but lacked the rawness that gave them a lot of their original personality.
@californiaportugee "Strange and beautiful at the same time" -- that's EXACTLY how I felt upon first hearing this piece from the "Woodstock" soundtrack while a junior in high school, 36 years ago -- still feel the same way:) --
This song is better than any dumb, stupid rap/hip-hop shit there is out there today. This song is one of the greatest songsssssssssssssssssss everr. period. no debate about this.
I agree that "Saturday Afternoon" is one of the greatest songs.
But You can't tell that all hip-hop tunes are dumb shit. This kind of music still has much to say. Why don't you try some of genious works, such as "illmatic" by Nas or any A Tribe Called Quest LP's?
this is the jefferson airplane which takes me on a mysterious journey without any drugs of any kind, just play it and I'm high sort a speak. Love it! Thanks! *reloads and has a nice flight*
@coolguy1028 Sure live performances of this song are incredible but unfortunately Grace Slick usually was in her alter ego Grace Sick, wheeled out drunk on stage more often than not. Plus this is an entire album sort of song, this LP just oozes raw acid, enough to catch a contact
When I played The Album Jefferson Airplane After Bathing At Baxters to My Friend after Listen to it He said this is Ten Years ahead of any British Band he was wrong within Two Years British Bands had not only caught up but had Burst The Evelope Wide Open but The Rawness of This is even Now still Startling
