  • Tequila!?!

  • Nice Future Car

  • @musclekid13 full of shit buddy theres only 8 left in the world highly doubt you have even seen 1

  • awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @ChryslerTurbineCar

thanks it was and JAYYYYYYY was there giving out oral history!!!

  • Well shit if I knew they were that rare I wouldn't have traded it in at cash for clunkers for my new Prius.

  • Cool, it has a TorqueFlite!

  • Had these gas turbines proven economically successful. Does anyone have any information on what their life service expectancy was?

  • just WOW....and we still don't have flying cars?! ...wtf happened ...all the smart people died in the 60's

    it's this damn consumerism

  • You know J Leno is a serious old car guy, since hes always wearing a blue jean shirt! Reminds me of my departed old man...His cars he owns truly reflect the type of guy he is!

  • Only two Chrysler Turbine Cars are in the hands of private collectors: One was purchased by private automobile collector Frank Kleptz of Terre Haute, Indiana and is functional. Kleptz's Turbine Car was originally donated to the former Harrah museum in Nevada. The second one is owned by comedian and television host Jay Leno, who purchased one of the three Chrysler Turbine Cars which had been originally retained by Chrysler. [6]

  • Of the 55 units built, most were scrapped at the end of a trial period, with only a handful remaining in museums and private collections. Of the remaining nine cars, six had the engines de-activated and then they were donated to museums around the country. Chrysler retained three operational turbine cars for historical reasons; two of the three are now owned by the "WPC Museum

  • Very well shot, thanks!

  • Yeah my bad... I assumed it was a steam turbine since he deals with a lot of steam vehicles. Still cool though.. steam would have been way cooler

  • If im right, i think this car runs off of diesel, gas, vegatable oil, jp-4, and kerosene. thats pretty darn neat.

  • just wow

  • Are you sure its a GAS turbine? I thought those were steam turbines

  • @natebeelanch Pssssst... your ignorance is showing...

  • Jay Leno is a dickwad, shame he owns all those gems.

  • @LolAtTheWorld Nah, anyone who owns a 2009 Dodge Challenger R/T is a dickwad.

  • @LordToxygene I am a dickwad, so what?

  • @LolAtTheWorld That's the spirit! Always be proud of who you are and what you are!

  • Did he say 19 miles per gal?

  • @greedygoohgle you heard right son!!

  • @greedygoohgle yup!! LOUD!! JUST LIKE AN OLD VACUMM!

  • it sounds like luke skywalker's landspeeder

  • A cousin of mine -- who just passed away on December 18th -- was one of the people selected to participate in Chrysler's turbine car program. During the three months he had the car, I had the opportunity to ride in it. The engine sounded like a vacuum. While a bit slow off the line, the turbine car suddenly took off like a rocket. A very cool vehicle. Too bad Chrysler destroyed most of them.

  • true or not? unsure, But I have read that the reason most were destroyed was avoid paying import tax (tariff). for a while chrysler let families have these cars for a week at a time. They ran great on unleaded gas (white gas), but in 1964 most gas stations didn't sell it. The lead in leaded gas was very hard on the motor. It's the same today with the leaded gas, you never want to burn it in a M1 abrams tank

  • There was only 55 of chrystler's turbine cars now its about 6

  • He got the second part of the description from wikipedia

    what a joke

  • I admire him for actually going out there and talking to the people and not acting like a conceited typical celebrity

  • Geez how many of those cars exist?

  • @56BUICKRiviera not that many, the noise is a vacuum like sound, weird car looks like something from the Jetsons, this guy has tons of awesome cars!!!

  • @manamana101 I briefly spoke with jay once in 95. He was driving an F150 Lightning to work, Harrison Ford ,Molly Shannon, Zigfreid and Roy and that old gay comedian that thows a bucket of confetti at the audience appeared that day.

  • @56BUICKRiviera rip taylor

  • @56BUICKRiviera 7, at most. After the project was killed, Chrysler was afraid of their work being stolen by competitors, so most of the cars were burnt to the ground. Only 50 were ever made, and 43 were confirmed destroyed by Chrysler.

  • @thesolo saddest thing ever. Coolest engine in the world. Imagine running out on the road and then filling up with tequilla or alch you had in the back seat instead waiting for AAA or walking to a gas station.

  • @56BUICKRiviera 6 non working ones in museums and 3 working ones owned by private collectors.

  • @GunsOfThePhoenix Ah! Thank you!

  • @56BUICKRiviera They say he owns one of three running Turbines.

  • @56BUICKRiviera about 3 are still functional...

  • Looks like a 1961-63 TBird.

  • Chrysler was in need of financial help and the oil company's stepped in to help them as long as they stopped production of these cars.

  • I repaired the clock on this car, Yippy!

  • @Mr1969coronet500 really, ??? nice, Man

  • @manamana101

Yes, I used to work at a Gauge repair shop that repaired alot of his gauges,I would pick up the gauges from his shop (that I lived a mile way from) in fact you can see me on a couple of his videos at "Jay leno's Big Dog Garage", He's a really nice guy and a "Genuine" car guy.

  • How do you change gears in this car, for that fact where is the transmission?

  • jay leno looks pissed that all these people are crowding around his car and probably touching it. i don't blame him id be the same way.

  • @thegenrl Actually he likes it, he has about a zillion cars in his warehouse in Burbank Ca, google jay lenos warehouse, I heard the DMV takes two full days to register his cars every year!!!

  • awesome car

  • That's one car that his friend, Ed Beagley Jr will not ride in...

  • This looks like it was at Bob's Big Boy in Toluca Lake. I've seen one of these cars at the Peterson Automotive Museum in Beverly Hills. I could talk cars with Jay for many hours(and I'm not even a gear head). I talked old cars with Neil Young once, he digs 'em, running but rusty.

  • the guy who made the video is a fuckin idiot he never shows under the hood!

  • WTF this dude has almost every rare car ive ever googled! if only us normal people had his kind of money

  • The reason that these cars never got off the ground was because, the engine is just too damn expensive.

  • shame!!!!

  • Not including poor throttle response and high fuel consumption.

  • @GunsOfThePhoenix Or because it has no wings.. LOL. ;-)

  • i heard theres only 6 of these left in existence im just glad jay has one of them

  • @eze14213 BUT *I* WANT ONE TOO!!!

  • @eze14213 and three that run including jay leno's

  • I got to sit in Frank's one time (the guy in Indiana) and he sat a nickel on its side, right on top of the engine. I revvvved it to 21,000 RPM and the nickel sat perfectly still!! I got to see all his cars that day---what a treat.

  • is very cool car jay

  • no kidding , the guy has a warehouse full of good stuff! and he knows his cars

  • Not Ghia styling. The Turbine car was designed by Elwood Engel, who also designed Ford Thunderbirds of the era; which explains the similarity of the styling between the two. Ghia did, however, build the bodies and interiors in Turin, Italy.

  • you are correct! Awesome machines!

  • on of the few cars not styled by Virgl Exner... my grandfather was one of the lucky few chosen by chrysler to test one of these cars... He didn't like it.. I'll so a slideshow one day on here to show our collection someday.

  • sooo cooolllll

  • in person it was even better, heck you could smell that old style!

  • that interior is gorgeous!!!! what happened to cars...

  • they went cheap and sre done overseas. why do you think the asians and europeans crave our Classic American cars?? trust me , in person it looks more beautiful!

  • Jay is a real car guy and knows how to operate all his cars

  • I wonder if Mr.Leno uses vegetable oil only for this vehicle.

  • he might i would not be a bit surprised, he knows about cars fir sure!

  • Comment removed

  • the concept is awesome and the noise is horrible, like a big vacuum! seeing it in person was a treat!! Awesome

  • See, that was the real reason all but nine were destroyed; copyright infringement on Hoover's patented sound! (kidding)

Absolutely gorgeous car... until you got to the front (never cared for that bug-eyed look). Classic Ghia styling, and those taillights were works of art!

  • president of Mexico drive/drove a chrysler turbine????? tequila on gas-tank????? what about this???

  • moonshine or a half a moon face like Leno's! HAHAHAH.

  • most deff a rare piece of american engineering.. most all of them got crushed and this yay-hoo has to have every car ever made lol.. and knows wtf he's talking about too

  • Hereeees Jay!!!! he does i give him credit ! have you seen his cars? google jays garage, he is got some good stuff!!!

  • I'd almost kill for one of those ;-)

  • my god yeah.. he got everything from old steam powered cars.. to hotrods.. to turbocharged cars.. to the TANK car lol.. the man has a huge collection.. and he knows almost everything about every single one of em!
