I am a huge fan of the Rabab. had a question which i was hoping someone would be kind enough to answer. Are the frets of the Rabab made of metal like the guitar. Or does the player get a fretless instrument and tie a gut around it for the fret. thanks
@sujithtv I have a Rubab. It has three nylon strings and then multiple iron strings. Each string has a knob. The frets are already there. The diaphragm is made of Goat skin but they can be made of any animal really. The wood is actually made of Oak tree which is quite durable.
You get it with frets, and traditionally, they are made up of the same nylon strings, guts can work too.
There is a minor difference between the number of frets in the Rubab played in Pakistan and the one played in Afghanistan. The former contains three frets while the later has four, nevertheless, its up to your comfort that how much you want to modify your instrument .
Thank You khumariaan1, for the valuable piece of information. here in India, its extremely difficult to find this instrument. I have been trying to get my hands on one of these for quiet some time now. I had a couple of dealers tell me that the instrument came fret less. Thank you once again.
@sujithtv you'r welcome. Finding it in India must be difficult but might not be impossible. Depends upon what part of India you live in, you can find it with Pakhtoon/patan people mainly from Afghanistan living in India, probably you can get one from em.
The best would be, to arrange an ebay deal if you are really interested. A friend got one from Islamabad via Ebay, and I think she is happy with the quality.
its kinda strange that you tune from written stuff,do we have some misunderstanding here?By tunning I mean, the way you"sur"your rubab,so its all about matching your"sur"to some predefined standers like harmonium, piano(or e.g digital tuners in case of guitar)and as I said,I don't have some thing to match with so I do it as it goes :)
:) thats how English is ruined on the streets Bro......
I kinda messed it by purpose to have naughty feeling..never knew that Sana is gonna upload it:) I would have honestly accepted my fault if I was on one:)
are you asking about the origin of the song?though its not a market song but still I want it to be as a pashto track...the melody you heard is just a part of my full song which may get recorded if I got some time and space for it.
but my friend makes my craze and bid on this song says you heard so many times this track and this is pakistani song and someone sang this song as well from india. plzz help me out
Well as far the originality of the tune is concerned, I guarantee you its not stolen but its original, I wrote all of the parts by myself.I don't claim it to be some out standing stuff but the tune completely belongs to me.
Since its composed in eastern scale, so you may have the feeling that you have already heard it, but Indian song...ahhh NO WAY..
I will appreciate if your friend pin points the song which he/she thinks to be the same :)
yes you need more practice, cause you started playing, you didn't go to the middle or to the end.. you stoped where u sarted... all sur was the same from begining till the end..
