have you tried to restore from the system imagine? what a night mare, it asked for drivers i found a driver disk & it would not take it....it would not accept the system image either.
@scarletohara2008 maybe the disk you were tying to restore from needed the correct 'raid' type driver added for the system bios to recognise is as the correct type (ie SATA / IDE)
Please someone answer me ASAP. If i do both backups, and i install linux/ubuntu, If something goes wrong with linux/ubuntu, and i run this back up, will my computer be fine and still have windows 7 running perfectly fine? Or do I have to know to how install windows 7 all over again in order to regain my computer?
Okay, so my buddy's PC crashed. And now I wanna make a backup cd for him just so that he can boot his PC and basically restart the whole system. It's one of those things that I've been meaning to do for quite some time. There's nothing more frustrating than having to re-install Windows, but worst of all, all the applications and their various configurations.
Can I use the system image recovery option to get rid of viruses on my computer? I don't have any and the image I have is totally clean. So, in case a virus enters my computer, could I use the system image recovery option to get rid of it? (Like when one choses factory image recovery)
i have a genuine windows 7 home and i have a system image of it.. but i want to upgrade to windows 7utimate a cracked one, can i restore it back from ultimate7 to home7 w/ my system image? help please..
This is an excellent tool to help u save urself a major headache from having to reinstall ur programs and restore last good configuration settings and replace computer system files, personal files etc.
Wait so if i make an image on a external drive, would you still be able to use the external drive? (i.e. store other pictures, files, etc) or would that external drive be dedicated to that one image?
I have a problem.. i did the system restore for windows 7 and after that... my laptop runs smoother than b4, my issue is that everytime i turn my laptop on the system restore pop ups saying that my laptop has been restored to this date and time... i was wondering how to turn that off, cuz now it always shows everytime i turn on my laptop.... ty and i appreciate ur reply and the time u invested for me... thank u
does this also backup all your installed programs too? im wondering because im getting a new rig, and upgrading from my windows 7 32-bit to 64-bit(meaning, completely new HD with windows 7 64-bit instead of 32-bit). i have a bunch of stuff i want to keep and transfer onto my new HD but i need to know whether or not this will also backup programs as well as files and documents and such.
i just dont want to re-install all of my programs again as it will only b a pain in the ass.
@95trane : yes everything...the image is a copy of your hard drive... the downside is in this case that your old HD has 32-bit...so when you recover that image, your 64-bit will be replaced by the image containing 32-bit. .. i have no idea if it's possible to switch from 32 to 64 without having to re-install stuff... maybe PCWizKid knows?
@dortaboy yea...thats what im hoping to avoid. i want a new upgraded computer, and all my stuff on this computer into my new computer without having to re-install anything. but because its a new OS, i am going to have to start from scratch, which again, is what im trying to avoid.
if any1 knows of a way to backup ALL my data and transfer it onto my new computer(WITHOUT HAVING TO REINSTALL ANY OF MY PROGRAMS), i would very much appreciate it :)
Question: What's the point in using backup software for DATA backup, if the image backup holds EVERYTHING including the data anyway. In other words, I just bought a new PC, which didn't come with a Windows disk, therefore I cannot reinstall Windows (bullshit). Reinstalling windows is something I like to do once a year or so. hey i have a question. I have 2 hard drives in my computer one holds Windows 7 (40GB) and my other one is a Backup Drive (320GB) I know, and I always use backup and restore to make a system image. And sometimes Windows 7 Doesn't show my Backup Drive at all, Like right now I have the Problem. i need to know why this happends!!! or does anyone know another program that does the same thing????
hi thanks for the tutorial. when i scaned for backup devices it doesnt see any so it forces me to use DVD (second option). i have a C drive 60G (system) and K drive 239G. why doesnt it see K drive so i can back up the system on it?? thanks
Is it possible for a system image to fail? For example, I make it now and something goes wrong later. Could there be a chance that the system image does not work to repair the drive? I don't want to fully use this as my backup and risk losing everything if it there is no way to know until it is too late that it made an error.
@kfegroj yes and no. external drives arent great boot from alot of bad things can happen. but if you moved the image to another internal one, or took the external drive, opened it took the internal out nad hooked it up to the pc you could boot from it yes.
PCWizKid, Does the destination drive have to be formatted? is the system image in some type of .iso or compressed file? I have an external drive that I use for my work files only. Can I back the image up to that? or will it have to delete all my files first?
@zaigex not wizkid but no. i backed it up to an external with my games, music and docs on it. and its fine. its not an iso its a file only readable by windows and this recovery. but no format needed.
i followed the way u explained but windows not allowing me to do it. " This drive cannot be used to store a system image because it is not formatted with NTFS." <<what does it mean? please help me
Hey PCWizKid can you help me by answering a question? if my computer gets a virus , if i want to use it again , will a system repair disc be enough? or do i need a

When you make a backup your already putting it on a new hdd so doing it like that will serve your purpose of copying all the data on a new hdd.

hey ive been trying to create a system image. but cant. i go through the process, then it says back up failure. any suggestions???? yes the external is bigger than my main drive. is it because im including the system reserved in it????
Please let me know as soon as possible. But I just got a windows seven laptop and I had already created a repair disk. Does this disk give me the option of returning it to factory settings? First User Boot? I need to know asap. I appreciate it.
You CAN also back up to an alternate partition. I haven't tried it yet, but I'm hoping/betting I can copy the backup to my backup hard drive (I don't normally have it hooked up and powered so I don't wear it down with unnecessary spin).
I'm surprised you don't have at least your docs on a different partiition. oh well
I have a question:How does the case effect the performence of my pc?Wich case should i choose for optimum airflow..i have mainstream components q8400, gtx 260, 4 g ddr3
Windows Live Mesh or Windows Live Sync will sync files (EG: A system image) to SkyDrive, but the file size is limited to 25GB! And only 5GB per file so this really is not a good idea...
You could do the exact same thing in Vista and worked fine for me.
Never had a problem with Vista apart from the lack of drivers.
But SP2 makes it just as fast for me, but I'm going on 7 Ultimate x64 (have the retail package ready x86 and x64 dual) on X-MAS with my new Mobo and GPU.
i remember when i downloaded the vista repair disc of the neowin forums, and it has never failed to fix my computer! even after a failed dual boot or trying to remove grub it has never failed!
@hahaha10001 it is an image file - if you look in a mirror you see an image of yourself - i don't use this but on mine the desktop icons even come back in the same place - YES - everything

Please let me know as soon as possible. But I just got a windows seven laptop and I had already created a repair disk. Does this disk give me the option of returning it to factory settings? First User Boot? I need to know asap. I appreciate it.

your all set you have 3 diffrent way of re installing windows 7
jon204 2 years ago
You CAN also back up to an alternate partition. I haven't tried it yet, but I'm hoping/betting I can copy the backup to my backup hard drive (I don't normally have it hooked up and powered so I don't wear it down with unnecessary spin).
I'm surprised you don't have at least your docs on a different partiition. oh well

do you know how i could back the image to windows live sky drive?
behbf 2 years ago
Windows Live Mesh or Windows Live Sync will sync files (EG: A system image) to SkyDrive, but the file size is limited to 25GB! And only 5GB per file so this really is not a good idea...

hey thanks this worked quite well ;)
i got a question to you pcwhizkid:
i have a C and a D drive.
my c drive is completely full (nót with illeglly games! afcourse not!) with uhm... data.
not i have made a second program files in my d drive, is there any way to get all the programs in the program file maps in ONE program file map?

You could do the exact same thing in Vista and worked fine for me.
Never had a problem with Vista apart from the lack of drivers.
But SP2 makes it just as fast for me, but I'm going on 7 Ultimate x64 (have the retail package ready x86 and x64 dual) on X-MAS with my new Mobo and GPU.

i remember when i downloaded the vista repair disc of the neowin forums, and it has never failed to fix my computer! even after a failed dual boot or trying to remove grub it has never failed!
