  • hi Bob Lee ... greait feature!!

but it don´t work on my m.milestone...

.. I have to install some thingth??

.. it come with android 2.0

    any way 1k tnz.

  • where is the pedobear ascii when you need it.

  • I once read that you can't close apps on android, but that sound scary, can you?

  • Android manages applications a little differently than you're used to.

Applications in the background are kept in memory but are "hibernated" so they don't continue to use CPU or grab additional memory.

When the device becomes low on memory, Android "deep-freezes" the most background application, storing its memory in cache, and closes it. When you reopen this application, it reinjects the current memory state into memory so you can pick up where you left off.

  • android stops the applications in the background but doesn't clear them out of the ram as long as there is still free ram available.

however some people say that certain apps even use up battery life when theire in the background so there are several free taskkiller-apps available which allow you to close the apps even if android doesn't consider it necessary.

  • You were both pretty helpful, thanks. Makes an android phone even more interesting :)

  • Is that Hugh Hefner @ 1:19? Android man is in a slideshow with Hef and Hef's new girlfriend. Mingling with stars. All in a days work for the Android team.

  • Nice, I'm getting this when it comes to norway :D Samsung tho :/ Never had a samsung phone before, but its android so care :D

  • tttttt

i will flag this video for sexual content

im just kidding cut baby right

  • Real Nice

  • very nice!

  • Bob Lee, what a great guy. Thanks for showing us what you can do with Android. Did you design that or something?

  • These phones look interesting to me, but more importantly, I WANT THAT SHIRT!

  • Actually, I agree with you.

  • Let's say I'm a super user. How long will the battery last and what's the average monthly wireless charge I'm going to incur? I can't wait for gphone to come to canada.

  • 5 hours of talk time on 3G networks (like Rogers) and 4 days of standby.. I don't know what carrier it will come for in Canada though.

  • "I particularly like the whole pinch and swipe features the iPhone has" What ia this? I am iPhone stupid? But we do need office apps! I still have to carry a Crackberry!

  • Hey I agree with you! They constantly make devices that supposedly have "what we need" on them. I can live without watching youtube or having a photo slideshow. We need important office applications, pdf openers, word processing. These devices are really just for entertainment, you might as well buy a sony PSP and glue a phone to the back of it.

  • You can always download a free pdf reader for Android or buy one through Google Market. What's wrong with adding what you need to it, since it has that functionality?

  • hey bob how are the picture quality on the gphone is it as clear as the iphone?

  • well I'm, guessing that would be the case seeing as it has a better integrated camera, 3.0 mp compared to a 2.0 mp....if anything it should be much much better.

  • Sorry I'm so late. They have the same resolution: 320x480

  • :) cute baby girl Bob

  • Cant wait to see this finally in use. and im even using chrome at the moment :D

  • I want your shirt! Where can I get one?

  • I like Android, but I prefer iPhone to Andriod phone(s) I've seen so far. I particularly like the whole pinch and swipe features the iPhone has, which this phone doesn't seem to have.

  • Unfortunately apple have patented the 'multitouch' technology, the phone has the capability but none of the software on it takes use of that. I'm sure there will be plenty of apps people programme for it which will take use of it.

  • To be sure.

  • what is 'multitouch' technology' ? :-? is it like in iPhone we use 2 fingers to zoom out picture?

  • pretty much, yeah :P

it's just that you can use two (or more?) fingers at the same time :)

  • bob lee! where can i get that shirt? ;]

  • man.. google guys are in everything! And not just that.. they're really good

  • lol, nice defense argument from one of Steve Job's mind-controlled iFags ShadowCBG. I bet when Goggle Android hits the market soon then there will be stupid reviews and many of the same comments by these Apple idiots who cannot support their own ideas. Apple can only remain popular for so long.

  • All things considered, the Android OS is open source, everything apple has, someone else can code and run on the OS, apple's is not and can not. This particular phone, running Android has a touch screen AND a qwerty keyboard, AND tactile buttons, the iphone does not. The android OS can be installed on many devices, Apple's OS cannot. So, what does the iphone have on this? AT&T's larger network is all I can think of... though you get T-mobiles beter customer service with this so it evens out.

  • Wow nice new OS.

  • fanboy...

  • do you HAVE an iphone?

i do. and it sucks. sometimes youtube videos dont work, the phone freezes ALOT, the internet is a hell of a lot slower, and the texting sucks. OH and the service sucksss.

  • yea, i do, the internet is all most instant (fast). i go on youtube all the time and iv never had a single problem... my iphone has never frozen and i use my iphone hevaly. the service is all so really good, iv never had a single problem with it. oh and the texting rules

  • yeah! like the keyboard shortcuts! hey wait a minute...

  • two words.. "OPEN SOURCE"

  • You're complaining about someone copying the iphone... when the iphone had originally copied LG's prada? My friend, what the google android can do is limitless, as stated before, open-source. The iphones apps are limited, and not everything can be used on it, meaning that the google android OS can in actuality do "a shit load more things".

  • The only thing is that you're comparing the Iphone to an OS... Android can run on anything. Also, I'm not being anti-apple, I'm comparing two things from their respective specs. You're outright attacking google, and then when someone disagree's you're now 'done argueing' don't start the fight if you can't support it. We're also speaking on 'now' terms, not future terms, so wether apple is falling behind is irrelevant. Google's Android and Chrome won't fail easily; they need both of them to win.

  • By the way... Do you by chance own a mobile phone running android? If the answer is no, how can you make judgments to the iphone 'doing it a hell of alot better'? Let's run the android OS on something such as the black berry bold, or something and see which one 'does things better' especially with blackberry's new tech inside it.

  • Correct. The iPhone is one phone. Apple is the opposite of open-source: once you've bought into their "system," you're forced to stick the applications they like. So long as they are excellent stewards of quality, this works out. But watch out when the standards begin to fall (see: Apple during the 1990's).

On the other hand, we'll begin seeing Android on dozens of phones soon. And being open source, the quality will naturally elevate above anything Apple can offer.

  • awsome

  • This connection is wifi, so real world 3g speeds are going to differ.

I put my pre-order in this morning for one. I wasn't impressed by the conference or the phone as of now, but it does have extreme potential, can't wait.

  • I bet the iphone map software is better too...

  • android is open source. Do you have any idea what that means for the consumer? Have fun getting raped by apple, while I choose from 500 different photo apps for free.

  • Well, there are hundreds of different photo apps on the AppStore and Cydia as well.

  • Designing open source phone platform to revolutionize mobil computing: Tens of thousands of dollars and countless man-hours.

    Buying a brand-spankin'-new G1: $179.95

Getting your daughter's photos in a Google Android how-to video: Priceless.

Congrats to Crazybob and everyone on the Android team!

  • You go, Bob! I wonder if you're showing my next phone.

  • Your Mom's friends are here. You are HER favorite thing.

  • CrazyBob is a rock star!
