  • Oh,one more thing. The assistant director of this film was George Lucas!

  • Don Francks (woody) was said had died in a auto crash after this film. Totally untrue! His last credit was the The Curse of the Piano in 2008. I´m amazed he did not turn out to be a leading man.

Anyway, he is terrific in this scene.

  • I always supremely creeped out by this guy. I love the song but what guy corners a super naive girl in the woods and tells her the only way not to die is to make out with me? I know it's supposed to be romantic... but I guess it's the way she absolutely not into him yet he decides its ok to just up and kiss her...

  • @vegetables88 Some people have a lot of trouble to see the difference between reality and movies. That's creepy!

  • @cboncklis I agree. This is romantic, and fairly innocent seduction compared to some. A classic song! "You've got me flying high and wide, on a magic carpet ride...full of butterflies inside" I'd say she's into him.

  • I love this old movie. This was a very romantic song without being too forward.

  • who is singing here with Pet Clark i thought it was Keenan Whynne

  • Don Francks is still alive. Google him.

  • I had this song stuck in my head all day. Couldn't figure out what it was from, I thought it was a great song though. so i searched it up and I remembered what it was. now to figure out where i heard it.

  • wonderful actor, had a great future but a fatal car accident ruined it all.

  • God Bless Astroturf--invented here in Houston. Amazing that MGM's "Brigadoon" shot in the 50's, totally in studio, looks more realistic.

  • I just got a chubby....

And there wasn't a vampire or undead ghoulie in sight.

  • Hate Don Francks' performance (but I blame Coppola for not directing it the way it should be sung. On the other hand, I'm MADLY IN LOVE with Petula Clark's work on this number.

  • great movie, I take a big pleasure to look at

    thank for your posting

  • always has been a favrit love it ...to this day I still sing this song everywhere,so romantic.

  • Guess who was the Director´s Assistant on this production?

    GEORGE LUCAS!

  • one of my favourite movies and song since I was a child of 8 ...or so...! ;-))

  • Petula takes over at 2:28

  • This is my all time favorite song. Also, my favorite scene from my favorite movie. Thanks.

  • Frances Ford Coppolla was not known for his musicals! Still love this song and seeing the great Fred Astaire in his last dancing role.

  • @tallpaul521 You took the words out of my mouth--well done.

  • they're about to fall in that creek. :^D

  • @Buanand loooooooooooooooooooool!!!

  • love!!!!:) very hot!:-)

  • Great version, but her dodgy Irish accent ruins it!!

  • Comment removed

  • just can't stop listening to it! He's hot, that voice!!!

  • such a beautiful song

  • Anita O'Day's jazz rendition at the Newport Jazz Fest is one of the most famous performances of this song...best version!

  • Jo Stafford's is my personal favorite.

  • Love this film, cute scene, but totally unrealistic...I mean handsome men don't ever romance me on a beautiful riverbank!!!! WHY!?

  • @danigirl00 Hey, it's romantic Fantasy. Besides, who goes to the movies for realism?

  • @danigirl00 I don't think you'd really want that in real life........You never know the guy's real intentions...lol

  • @danigirl00

Oh Honey, if you said "Petrified Parsley" over and over like Petula Clark I'D kiss you, for sure! :D

  • Try me. ;)

  • @danigirl00

First of all, he's not that handsome. Secondly, youre still really young, so give it some time! ;P

  • @danigirl00 Lets go.........LOL

  • @danigirl00 I know! :( Same here...........life should always be like movie musicals.

  • dont sleep in the subway darling dont stand in the pouring raiiiiin ,,ha love pet clark

  • lol...so 60's

  • In case nobody mentioned this already, this scene was film on the Warner Brothers soundstage where "Camelot" had been shot a year earlier. It's a stark contrast to the exterior scenes Francis Coppola shot up in northern California.

  • who is that guy pretty hot

  • Don Francks - Canadian Actor - was in the TV show of femme nikita ... his daughter was on Different World as Freddy and his son is now on Stargate Atlantis

I remember Rainbow when he was about 3

    :)

  • Great version of this song. Love the bossa nova beat!

  • @exackerly Because real riverbanks that time of year have hordes of mosquitoes - as I learned to my dismay as a young man.

  • Love the musical Finian's Rainbow. but this 1 song, wow. Has been recorded & sung by so many famous artists like Sinatra. Probably the best known song from the play & movie.

Thanks mickeyjoe for posting this clip.

As for Pet Clark, "I know a place were we can go", it's "downtown". but "Don't sleep in the subway darling"

Amazing talent, was a star on British radio when she was but a wee thing & she was one of the Lady singers in the 60's who defined that generation of music.

  • These two wonderful performers created one of the sweetest, sexiest scenes in movie history with this. Their voices intertwicne so beautifully. Petula, Don, and Fred Astaire were wonderful in this movie although the rest of the film pales a little in comparison. Great soundtrack. Thanks for posting this gem. I'll rewatch it often when I want to see romance in action. Petula Clark is totally gorgeous!

  • don"t miss this film, she is so wonderful ,fresh ,sweet , what else can i say. and all the songs are beautiful. todo el exito que tienes te lo mereces petula,la gente con tu talento debe ser admirada por todo el mundo. love you very much

  • i just wish don franks had had some more songs in the movie.

  • Our HS drama class did this one, and I played Susan (the dancer) Becuase we weren't familiar the show, I had to rent the video. All I can say is----wow. The entire movie is phenomal, even for 1968. Don and Petula [what a name, lol] are wonderul together and their voices, the whole scene. That surprise *kiss just makes you melt---lol

  • Damn! Petula is so beautiful. What a beautiful profile she has! In this segment you see her beautiful chin, jaw cheeks. I was a fan of hers ever since "Downtown." But I really loved her in this film. I wanted to be like her, and imitated her singing. Too bad this film wasn't more appreciated, but in those days, critics thought insulting musicals made them seem "smart" & "savvy" --BS! This scene is one of the hottest ever in musical film history.

  • I've ordered this dvd from the library ... I have to see the entire film again. LOL Thank you for uploading this.

  • If you're a fan of this movie, then I highly recommend watching the "DIRECTOR'S COMMENTARY" on the DVD. Francis Ford Coppola is very upfront about all his favorite things AND shortcomings of the production, what he would have done differently, and etc. Good stuff.

  • I've stumbled across a gem

  • I think Don Fracks has one of the sexiest voices I've ever heard in my life... sigh! Don't know why he didn't became a big star. I've herard some pretty good jazz sung by him... he was really good!!!

  • You are right. My grandfather was Lee Sabinson, the producer from the origional B-way production 1947 to be exact. It was by his and my mother's standards, along with most critics at the time, a movie which did not live up to the standards of the critically acclaimed theatrical production of that it was based on. The music however is beautiful with the voice of the ever dearing Petula Clark. So yes, you consences is correct.

  • It was a good movie. I personally think that the reason it didn't do so well at the time was that it was based on a rather old play (from the 1940s if I'm not mistaken) and the source material was changed quite a bit for the adaptation.

Directed by Francis Ford Coppola, who later did "The Godfather."

The actor here is Don Francks, later the sheriff in "My Bloody Valentine", around 1980 or '81 I think.

  • God, this song just oozes sex appeal and tender love.

They just don't write songs like they used to,

for either the stage or for the radio.

(Though I am guilty to admit that I like Wicked and Mamma Mia.)

  • I saw this movie for the first time in my life just a few days ago. And I hopelessly fell in love with it. Exspecially with this song: it's so romantic it lifts my heart and soul to the stars!

  • Romantic perfection.

  • so you really like this film txt back hi my name is lildude

  • What I don't get is how this movie was a flop! I mean it was loads better than alot of the movies that came out around the same time.

  • Believe it or not, musicals were very out of favor with the baby boomers. Even though DOLLY, CAMELOT, and OLIVER were yet to come, they were not a hit with that demographic. The combo of Clark and Francks, did not have enough star power to pull in an audience that transcended generations. I went to see a revival of FUNNY FACE, and when it ended, my roommate and I were the only two left in the theatre.

  • I think you hit the nail on the head. In 1968 especially, escapist gems like this one didn't have much appeal for an audience that found it increasingly difficult to ignore harsh realities (riots, assassinations, war, etc.). If Oliver and Funny Girl were more successful during the same year, it might be because they had enough tragedy to make them believeable to viewers who could no longer buy into 100% happy endings.

  • It was many years ago when I saw this wonderful movie with my date..Youth and physical strength has gone.....but to hear this beautiful music again has brought youth back into my heart....thank you

  • I Love This Song & Only just found out that his daughter is Cree Summer (A Different World) Cool

  • thanks for posting!

  • This is really a treat for music lovers. What a perfect combination.Don's croaky lovey voice and Petula's prestine captivating style.

The song has become a very classy classic standard. No one will ever see or hear the likes of this again. Thanks for posting.

  • Petula Clark will surely always be remembered for her exceptional, brilliant voice and class as illustaed by this clip, but perhaps she will be less remembered for her acting, what a great pity, for me a very underrated yet superb actress.

  • You know she is still going strong, of course...

  • This is my favorite song in this movie:)

  • Don Francks played Walter, the gizmo expert,in the TV version of Nikita.

  • This is my favorite version of this song. Ever! The only other that comes close is Chet Baker's. But this is just so sexy.

  • So sexy and SO beautifully sung. WOW.

  • love this song thanks for posting xx

  • ooooh! Kissy kissy! lol! jk...

  • Love the track love the scene.

  • Thanks for letting us share this great video.

Devil moon is a beautiful song,

This is the best rendition of this song by a mile.Cheers

  • Wonderful!

  • Pure musical bliss, with eye candy to match. Doesn't get any better than this.

  • The guy who sings with Petula Clark is Don Francks who voiced Mok in Nelvana's "Rock & Rule".

  • Petula Clark makes Cleopatra and Helen of Troy look like junk yard dogs.

  • fuck. she's sexy; i didn't realize.

  • From a film that seemed dated at the time, let alone now. But the music is something sort of grandish, so it is. I saw Petula and Don Frankks sing this on stage during her concert in Toronto in 2005, and almost 40 years later they still sounded great together.

  • I really love this song and the film was,nt bad either

  • Sure the movie is passe and very unpolitically correct...but it is still a favorite.

  • "Sure the movie is passe and very unpolitically correct..."

    *******************************

FUCK political correctness. FUCK IT FUCK IT FUCK IT.

    And give me more Petula.

  • Passe? You're no doubt correct. We all know JFK would lay on the floor to relax his back and listen to Camelot. Apparantly the same was done with this musical, although of course he was murdered before the movie.

I dig Petula in no small way too.

And fuck political correctness and the goat it rode in on!!

  • The first time I heard this wonderful song was in this movie. Thanks for bringing it back

  • Do you have any clips of Finian?

  • i love petula singing this song ,it,s one of my favorites.

  • Mr.Keenan Wynnthe bigoted "Sen.Rawkins"

    ..who gets his cummuppance.

    When "Sharon McLoughlin"(Ms.Clark)makes

a wish over the buried pot of gold and the

sen. is turned into a blackman.

  • Dear Tessireee,

    Yes!

Mr.Steele did play "Og The Leprechan"in the

    movie musical version of"Finian's Rainbow!"

  • One of the best filmed musicals ever! Francis Ford Coppola rehearsed it AS a complete musical before filming. Best sequence (apart from this one hot number)is when Howard (Al Freeman) goes to work for racist Sen. Rawkins. Rawkins' aide can't understand why he, being black, doesn't know how to "shuffle". "You don't WALK the way you s'posed to, you don't TALK the way you s'posed to; you EDUCATED or somethin'?' "Well, I AM working on my Master's." "Your Master's what?" "It's a COLLEGE DEGREE!"

  • What a great song.

  • I'd love to see this movie. Do you have any clips with Fred Astaire in them?

  • Hey, where's the fun character? The one that dances?

  • You mean Finian?

  • I think Og, the leprechan (Tommy Steele) is who ya mean.

  • Ah. Well, I haven't seen the movie, so I wouldn't know. :(

  • brillant

  • yeah! It´s lovely without being ridiculous. Great duet! Her voice is so unique. It´s magical

  • It is available at my local library on DVD. Check yours.

  • 1:37 You and your glands? oh, "glance". sorry

  • I love this movie and it's music. Fred Astaire is such a pleasure to watch at any age. Is it really not available as a DVD?

  • Please, for the love of God, TELL ME WHERE I CAN DOWNLOAD THIS!!!!! I have been looking for this movie since I was a child and would love to see it again. Forgive the fact that I am drunk, but the desperation for a watchable download of this movie is real. Please help me. I will sell you my poor, battered, abused, soul...er, maybe something else more valuable. lol You get my point.

  • The DVD has been available for at least a year in the U K.

Its really an all time favorite movie along with Brigadoon-Tommy Steele was good in this one as well

The PC watchdogs nowadays would probably insist on a rewrite

  • kocham ten film !! przypomina mi dziecinstwo

  • i love this song!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • oh man i cant believe u posted this i just love this movie thank u sooo very much this is also a classic

  • Wonderful song. I wish you'd re-post it with a higher sound volume because the orchestral arrangement is so great.

  • One of my favorite moments from a great musical!
