Everyone does realize that the fact that people can say that they were "broken down mentally" is a glaring indication of hazing right? Or perhaps RIWG missed that whole part of the definition given out by National?
Just my 2 cents: Is there a need to protect kids?yes. I do think you can go overboard and cause as much damage to a person by coddoling. Weaken our nation by playing to the lowest common denominator. Don't encourage people to rise to the occasion. Settle for average and less and be thrown into the dust bin of history. My God what would our forebearers think?
i was at the 2004 RIWG encampment. i thought that the first four days were hell. There was the "Bay of Varnum" from heavy rains for 5 days straight. i almost died on the repelling tower, i couldnt shoot at the FATS center and my flight was doing PT until 11pm one evening. i was assigned KP duty the first night and missed important barracks information.
RI encampment was fun as hell! (was my basic) people said i would wanna go home on first day but i didnt wanna leave at all =) alpha and bravo had a meltdown and krayla and i was the only one happy wish it wasnt so cold and...flooded though
I hail from CT and my first encampment was in 2004 in Rhode Island. I look back on it now with laughs but it was cold, wet, and the staff almost broke me down mentally. (I was contemplating going home on day 3 in my head but I chose hang in there)
we were soo hard core!!!!

Encampments are fun. I didn't know Rhode Island was big enough to hold a wing encampment.
