not trying to be a troll but im a middle school football linebacker and im not that big im 115 and 5'6 and my age doesnt need to be known except im in middle school but i think in order to do much more with your players the drills r great we use them too but the coach needs to be more head on and strong and tell them what they need a lil more rougher and not all mommy like..:) ok im done:D
we do this drill almost everyday in my outside linebacker practice. except we got a tight end we gotta read sometimes shed then a fullback thats blocking for the rb we gotta shed or get around and the3y dont run the same way everytime weve gotta work on reading the plays. and my coach yells alot more then this guy. bt im on a high school team but even my middle school coaches yelled. idk wte works for this guy i guess
i like rough coaches who yell at me. im 12 nd football is intense (or atleast until their making it "injury proof") hes too soft. man u need to yell. if its not great, u need to keep them running it until its great.
this coach sucks. what if its an outside linebacker? the outside backer has outside contain and should try to force the running back to either cut in or get tackled so the inside backers and d line all are in range
@gino26gman I don't think he sucks.. it is important for them to tackle with an inside out angle still, with the head in front of the rb, but you make a great point... if the rb gets outside of the OLB, only corners and sometimes safeties are left, and let's be honest... they can't tackle some rbs.
Would have been much more appealing if you used players who knew what they were doing. I mean cmon', when I was their age I was still laying kids out!
rip lower, tackles wont just let a LB whack his hands down and waltz in. OTs are the most athletic o linemen and if he passes off a DE and an LB tries to swat hands? Thumb tuck under the pads ans swoosh!
Despite all the shit talking this is a good video, but dont you think even if this is for youth players... You should throw in a Rip tech? swatting an OT's hands down is good, but i've see some stout youth players that have quick hands.Im not a coach or anything just a current player. Maybe you could make videos of higher level players. This is a good walkthrough video but the display of contact isnt real and could be a bit misleading.
@Kepohoni the problem with the rip tech is that on the front side you are more susceptible to being washed down from the blocker....so using the hands on a push pull move is a much better tech for the front side.
well i like these drills. im gonna be trying out for high school football when i get there next year and im gonna be doing this. good stuff to learn hear. thanks for posting this.
1:10 your body has to be on the left of the runner so you arent forced to attempt an arm tackle which looking at these kids they would not be able to do
@spartan117ace fuck yeah bra.i became linebacker a couple days ago, well i didnt really have the ermanit position.but i filled in one day cause our linebacker got hurt in the beggining of practice.n i did fuckin great.soo no more guard or tackle im linebacker now.!aha
good drill but dnt u think they should have used players that know what their doing instead of skinny kids that tackle with their heads down and lok afraid to wrap up?
Good comment. The reason for using the "skinny kids" is that this series is for parents who coach youth football. It is designed to teach fundamentals and demonstrate the wide range of skill levels parent/coaches will face. The series, hopefully, models good teaching for not-always-so-good athletes. As a side note, the player participants in this series did go on to win the Minnesota State Championship... for what it's worth.
Well you have to be able to read everything. not just the guards or the runningback.
Sometimes a runningback will look to what hole he is running to.
Sometimes you can preread a run play by formation, some types will only run a counter out of certain formation, and once the playside guard blocks down, you can shoot the gap, because the playside tackle will try to block down on the Middlelinebacker
omg this makes me crazy!! hahha i mean how hard is it just to use your ancles to get a good angle on stiff arming the guard and wait for the rb to be close to you to just deliver the hit?? come on guys you guys are fucking rejects
Good coaching, bad players

They are clearly not going full speed. Plus the point that he is demonstrating is a valid one.
