this might sound really stupid but how often should i bathe a guinea pig? i am getting one soon and im just doing some research because i want to be able to look after it properly
@IChooseLove001 About Once every two months depending on the guinea pig ( how dirty or smelly it is, ect...) That is how often i bathe my piggie. :) Hope this helps and also you can look it up too.

I use a hair dryer because most of the time (even when its a warm day) they shiver after a bath and I want to dry them off faster. I rub them down with a towel first to get most of the water off them then I will use the hair dryer. If you are going to use the hair dryer remember to have it on a cool to warm setting and hold it far away from your piggie.
I have had my guinea-pigs for 2 years and I have never bathed them, but I would like to, the only thing is, is that they dont really like being handled, but do you reacon that I would be able to do this? I especially need to do it with my rosette haired! :)
@Hannaah4Horses Well its going to be difficult because you didn't start bathing them when they were young so they will be a little more scared. I believe you can do it, especially for the health of your animal. Try to make it as quick as possible, do what i did and hold them under slightly warm water, once they are wet take them out, shampoo them on a towel and then put them under the water again to rinse them off. @KittCat5027 fruits you need to be sparing on cause it can give them diareia i learned the hard way with my first one, veggies are great i use vitamin drops in mines water to help with what they need and timothyhay and alfa alfa hay is good as well

My guinea pigs always run up my chest, too. It's so cute though, but especially hurtful when you have an open shirt and their claws scratch away. Ahaha, but I love this video. <3
@MrPsychokiller69 you definitely shouldn't bath your guinea pig everyday, i only do it if my piggy is a bit dirty or smelly. the most i will bath her during a year is 4 times. (but it is completely different if you are taking your piggie to guinea pig shows, then they need to be bathed before hand)

@kittensforjoy2 Unfortunately I am not sure, if she is actually pulling out hair then I would suggest taking your piggie to the vets. Also it might not be such a bad idea to ring up your local vet and ask them about it. I hope it works out!
I'm no animal doctor but I really don't think you should be putting a hair dyer next to a guinea pig because it can make them too hot and might even hurt them even if it's on low and no I didn't read that on something I just know and yet again I am not an animal expert but still you shouldn't do that

i wouldnt recommend using a hair dryer .. it may burn them and youu should brush your guinea pig just a normal baby brush works ive got a tommy tippee brush and comb it works jus the same
remember not to use the dryer on the hot setting, and never too close to the skin. Dryer is often only needed if you have really long haired pigs. :) An easy way to keep the pigs warm is to fill a rubber glove with warm water and wrap up the guinea pig in a big towel with the warm glove, after drying off the most of the water with another towel first. :)
@flower998790 parfume free cat/dog small animal shampoo will do fine :) Check the ingredients list for harch chemicals. There are so many brands out there today.
@ilikechocol it's okay even if some people here says it's not.. All pigs aren't very messy. The only thing is that you should check the bum area, if there's any old poop or pee that has to be washed.
@KarenLovesYou13 i didnt use any actual software to edit this video, i used the default Microsoft one. she is a sheba mini yak (can only find it in some countries, i am in australia). just google how to tell if a guineapig is male or female, or ask your vet :)

@hooliecc123 i wouldnt recommend using puppy shampoo just because i dont know if it is safe or not. i have been told by vets and guineapig breeders that it is okay to use baby shampoo or small animal shampoo (such as guineapigs, rabbits etc.) My guineapigs have never been super afraid of the blow dryer, i am generally always patting them while i am doing it so they can actually enjoy the experiance. if your too afraid to use it just wait for a warm day so they will dry quickly.

@ds409 yes they dont like the water (or at least none of mine have ever liked it), i try to do it as fast and as genitally as i can so that it doesn't cause them too much stress. also the noise my guinea pig is making is a happy noise, google it :)

Never! Guinea Pigs are very clean pets. Bathing them is animal abuse because it is so much stress to them. So please, don´t do it. More over they easily get a pneumonia from it. Using the hair drying is far to loud - their ears are very sensitive. If you really love your animal then please don´t bath it. They really don´t like it as well as they really don´t need it!!!

You can use a dryer on a guinea pig only if the dryer is non-ionized. And the dryer has to be warm and at least 12 inches away from the guinea pig.

@Tammy2991 no you dont have to use a hair dryer, i am just impatient and would prefer them to be dry rather then shivering and cold. you can either wait for a hot day so they dry quick, or towel dry them really well (and maybe waiting till they are dry before putting them back outside)

I'm a beginner guinea pig owner, so I don't know alot about them.. but don't they get scared when I put them under water? and what is that sound from your guinea pig, because mine did not make this sound at all...

@ds409 yes they dont like the water (or at least none of mine have ever liked it), i try to do it as fast and as genitally as i can so that it doesn't cause them too much stress. also the noise my guinea pig is making is a happy noise, google it :)

@ds409 you don´t have to wash your guinea pig, they often clean theirself, and if they´re very filthy it´s often because their cage is dirty. don´t bath a guinea pig if don´t really need it, the get stressed. ;)

Never! Guinea Pigs are very clean pets. Bathing them is animal abuse because it is so much stress to them. So please, don´t do it. More over they easily get a pneumonia from it. Using the hair drying is far to loud - their ears are very sensitive. If you really love your animal then please don´t bath it. They really don´t like it as well as they really don´t need it!!!

@Ladybird2307 dude u r a crazy syco path if u want ur guinea pig to die, then dont bathe it. guinea pigs need to be bathed. if ur guinea pig had cut and u didnt know. it would be infected. ur guinea pigs oil in the hair can get dirty and u need to bathe it.
