yes, I have one and it rocks, you can put all settings on high and it will not freeze (I use my laptop with a 2nd monitor running at 1680 x 1050)

ATI cards do not play any role in this, and I can know because I own GeForce cards, Radeon cards, a Matrox card and even an old SiS chipset, and it does not matter which brand you have at all, unless you are animating or gaming.

Ok so both can play games and both can make cards for video editing (ati=fireGL) (Nvidia=quadro) and almost nobody will use either as they cost $3000 per card for either. Ati is behind for the moment but a new leader emerges every business quarter with their latest card. Also, there are programs from nvidia to encode media using your gpu and ati could do it too, they just need the initiative. Nvidia also has physx on their cards now too. Both are good and people have argued for years to no avail

if you want something for games pass on this, It has a Integrated Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator for the video card and it's not good for any games that need a good 3d card. Get the Gateway MD2614u at least it has ATI RADEON HD 3200 and is like $100 cheaper than this. And you can buy it at bestbuy for $549.99 instead of buying this for $649.99 for this laptop.

Looks like a decent notebook. As for 56k modems, sure they CAN be useful sometimes. I don't know about the bright flashy red casing. It's ok, but that glossy finish will scratch like crazy. I was once a Gateway fan (when Gateway was a company that valued quality), but I haven't messed with them since they basically became eMachines. But this should be decent.

I don't think it matters what brand the laptop is, if it's on a loan program, and they want it back, they want it back. LOL Gateway is going strong with there brand, as well as the Emachines brand. I don't think they will be folding anytime soon. There tech support is also really good as well. they where nice enough to send me parts for FREE not long ago for my old backup 1ghz AMD Athalon SlotA machine i got from them in 2000, Cmos battery and some cables.
