  • It's a shame that she had to compete in an alternate Olympics, she easily would have won gold on vault. That ban was a really shitty thing, to do that to those athletes who trained and made sacrifices & then they don't even get to compete in a real Olympics... through no fault of their own... (and yes, I know it was just a response to the USA ban in 1980...)

  • Thus the vault for men and women was forever changed.

  • love watching her AA comp.. but did she really win the AA and not medal in EF? Infact, I think she only made vault finals (and placed 8th!) Does anyone know?

  • Yurchenko actually qualified for all four event finals, but was unable to compete in all of them. During the vault finals, she injured her right knee when landing the second vault and was unable to continue with the other apparatus finals. Even though she scored 9.90 on her first vault and had a high incoming score to add this to, the landing on her second vault gave her a low score of 9.30, so the total of her vaults gave her a low overall placement in the final standings of this event final.

  • good to know! thanks for the info

  • She was awesome and a great innovator. Thank you for posting this. It is amazing that Olympic Championships are still being won with variations of her vault.
