  • WOW!! Just .... WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!! So easy, just vocals, a guitar and an ever repeating chords sequence ... Mix it well up and you get this SUPERB performance of a GREAT song. Hats off to Mr. Dunnery, simply timeless! ... I still have goose bumps.

  • he came to my house waay back when in the 80's when i was a lil lad (prob freaked him out as every1 stood and stared) he came to see a fan in hospital and my dad took him back to a gig he had to do :)

  • Am big genesis fan ... This is really good..

  • I wonder if Frank has ever done a house concert in front of just one person?

  • Just stunning.... !!!!!!

  • i must admit to being a you tube surfer usually cutting clips short but not this, this kinda mesmerises and such a contrast to the lamb version which is pretty heavy..bravo francis

  • excellent version

  • awesome!

  • Great post and cover! A pleasant surprise. Obs: 3 deaf people watched this video.

  • Check out the album version of this song. Awesome (his cover of Love will tear us apart has to be heard too) He has to be the most underated singer song writer and guitarist around.

  • Just an amazing cover..thank you thank you...i cant get enuff of this

  • @ the watchers of his strings & chords. Lots of D chords but.... The E string is the base string he touches to support the chords...

Just watch & learn.. But most important. It's not a discussion worth.. It's the feeling.. It's the music, it's such a wonderfull song...

  • Sitting in a hotel in White Plains, getting ready to go to the City for the first time in 25 years, I clicked on this. I thought it would be appropriate and nostalgic to hear one of my favorites from The Lamb Lies Down. I'd never heard of Mr. Dunnery but I instantly became a fan. What a FANTASTIC cover! It has become a very welcome earworm.

  • now THAT is a well covered version of this classic.

  • I'm ashamed to say thatI have never seen or even heard of Francis Dunnery before this video.I have watched this about ten times on and off and I am consistently blown away by this cover & performance.5 stars.Brilliant!! That is not an easy song to sing yet to play like that AND sing, well, WOW!Thx alot for the post,M.

  • @moco635 Check out his versions of Love will tear us apart and Father and son.

Francis is also one of the best song writers and performers around. Pure class.

  • It's such great material. Hard to go wrong. But Francis really kicks it. Beautiful work!

Now I have to go check out Jeff Buckley's version. :D

  • I've been blown away more times than I can remember by YouTubes. This is up there. Thanks. Very much.

  • one of the best covers i have ever heard, fantastic voice also

  • This is a great cover. If I heard this before the original I think I would of like this one better.

  • Frank! your a fuckin star mate... love it

  • that was incredible! Incredible song, incredible rendition!

  • Just saw Francis yesterday at the house party in Aalborg, It was the best performance and concert I have seen for very long, love his music even when he play Genesís....

  • One of my favourite tracks from the 'Lamb' album and this cover gives it all the justice it deserves. A great acoustic version.

It is possible to play it in open 'E' however.

  • one of genesis's best ever shit !!to try to pull this off with single acoustic is a great effort ......but what happened to the other parts "as i cuddled .... no time for et

  • Well put. I love the other two versions and having just heard this one for the first time, I love it as well.

  • any idea where to get this DVD now? only just found out about it and have to get it but cant find it anywhere!!! please help!!

  • B E A U T I F U L. Never heard this song before, but it's one of my favourites already!!! Thanks Franky.

  • Frankis, you scamp!

    Genesis???

  • Superb ! He knows how to make this Heavy Lamb Song into a very sensitive song. Great voice, well played chords ( with that stunning E snare repeating.. ).

One of the best Genesis live covers ! Hats of !!

  • @kameelzee

Actually I think it's Drop D tunning, but I haven't tried it yet, but it sounds like that.

  • @kameelzee its a D isnt it?

  • Somebody please tell me there's a clip of him playing 'Musical Box' somewhere on the web - one of the musical highlights of my life was the inclusion of it on his tour recently (his own material was excellent BTW)

  • somebody please tell me there's a clip of him playing 'Musical Box' somewhere on the web - one of the musical highlights of my life was the inclusion of it on his tour recently (his own material was excellent BTW)

  • This is kinda nice but I'd really like to here him play more than one part

  • Louder than usual, but more sedate than preferred.

This should be an angst ridden, acid-pumped, soul scarring, electrically charged rock song. I don't know what this is, though...

    Kind regards,

    -Rael

  • great unplugged version...bravo!!

  • This sucks more than in the air tonight although happy to see him spreading the genesis love!!!!

  • Drop C Version

  • Man he sounds like Peter in a way

  • Muy buena versiòn del tema.

Se nota que Peter es una de sus influencias. Lo màs bacàn es que lo hizo suyo.

    Mis respetos.

  • GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Great version of the song, I wish he included the "porcupine"/ "no time for romantic escape" part though. Very good interpretation still!

  • luv the great F.D. , what kind of guitar was that....a seagull ?

  • Genius.

  • Genesis and frank xx what a great cover !!!!

  • Kevin Gilbert's cover brings out the rage.

Jeff Buckley's cover brings out the kink.

Francis's cover brings out the fear.

"Back in NYC" is truly timeless, like "Finnegan's Wake". People will probably still be covering it 200 years from now.

  • @SpeakMoreClearly Well put. I love the other two versions and having just heard this one for the first time, I love it as well.

  • @SpeakMoreClearly Very well put. I totally agree.

  • @SpeakMoreClearly i think you're just reading his face when he sings because he looks scared. or he got an arrow to the gut

  • @SpeakMoreClearly : awesome man, 3 of my top favorite artists...

  • This version is a very nice one......

  • he's playing in C here, but it looks like a D chord shaping. Is he tuned a whole step down, or in open C, anyone know?

  • The whole guitar is downtuned a bit then the top string is dropped , like doing drop D. Tune the top string to match the vid and then tune as you would in Drop D. From there hes picking out a D chord, then D with your 3rd finger lifted to open then its 1st finger 1st fret 2nd string from bottom+3rd finger 3rd fret bottom string, last is just 2nd finger 2nd fret bottom string. Just pick around you'll figure out the repeating patt. Hit the top string every time your switch shapes for the low note

  • Hi spilopbob! Got this. Made me decide to string up. Been thinking of it anyway. Thanx. Your friend.

  • That's a really lovely tune..

  • Not only is Frank one of our generations best songwriters he is a great vocalist and muscian. None better at what he does.

  • interesting to make this into a folk song and he does a really wonderful job singing and connecting with the lyrics. makes the song a bit tame though and I miss Phil's drumming :)

  • the man just keeps going. innovative music.he's a gent. topman.

  • what a pleasure !!! makes you wanna buy an acoustic guitar and have a crack yourself. what a guy!

  • Great Cover

  • This rocks!!

  • Wish new the chords

  • Beautiful. What I'd give to see Pete do this live again...

  • His DVD is called "Louder than usual". I'd say the song is less loud than usual.

  • I was thinking the same thing lol.

  • Channeling Kevin Gilbert's cover of this song, hmm? Actually, it's a nice way to follow-through on that version. It's excellent! Good choices to make the whole thing acoustic, adding the chorus (and leaving out the porcupine part), and singing with a little angst from the original. Thanks for performing this! Is there a studio version?

  • Nice....but where are the romantic escapes? No time for romantic escapes?????

  • Fantastic - great job!
