Collectives of people have to look down on other collectives.
Whites look down on asians (and everyone else). Which was probably a culture shock to the asians .. but either way, and whatever ... the end result is that they look down on the blacks ... generally .. that does not mean absolutely every last asian.
But the end result is ... your islam is not authentic and they know it.

My own oppinion as to why the asian / M.Eastern muslims didn't dialog with you is that they didn't see you as muslims ... and they are racist.
Lets be clear, firstly the stuff the the nation of islam teaches is not orthodox islam.
Secondly, if you study true Islam (the stuff the arabs etc do) it's not about social justice. It's about social injustice. So your program is not their program.

@kidcanman Peace, Kidcanman. Thank you for responding. Dawa is cool and all, but it is preaching Islam in an attempt to convert. Incarcerated brethren certainly need support, but personally I'm more concerned with helping those out in the street, e.g., soup kitchens, jobs, clinics, civilian patrols, etc.. This is how Christians generally beat the pants off of other groups. Works bring people to the "truth" - whatever that may mean to a given individual. Peace & blessings.
