  • im so stupid for thinking this song was mexican lmao!!! it has such an interesting history dating back almost 100 years ago!!!

  • *beautiful cover by The Beach Boys

  • This is in my blood , Im Greek and Jewish, Love the Middle Eastern Harmonic...John M.

  • Cover of a Cover (Dick Dale/Beach Boys)! love this one better, however!

  • The Beach Boys cover of this and "Lets Go Tripping" are really well done. Carl was a real good guitar player. I not sure but I think these were done before the Wreaking Crew was used in the recordings.

  • you know that's not bad for the beach boys! don't get me wrong-beach boys are my all time favorite group. fellow beach boy fans-take a pill-i worship the beach boys.i even made a pilgrimage to the boat slip where Dennis Wilson died the year after it happened-and i didn't even know i was there; i just happened to end up there on a ny eve night that year. I'm just sayin they weren't known at the time they recorded this for their virtuosity on instruments.

  • Nothing beats Dick Dale even Brian Wilson knows that

  • @Syzygy60 even chuck noris know that.........ha!, ha!, haaaaaaaaaa!

  • I absolutely love The beach Boys version of this great instrumental. They have always been my favorites. Went to numerous concerts of theirs.

  • i think this cover is better than the original...

  • @themainman36 Wow dude, you heard the original? You must be really old.

  • @SREproducciones I have records and listen to music from the 20's and 30's.....a long time before the year of my birth......you are not making sense doubting what "themainman" is saying....The original of Misirlou goes back to Greece not a very long time after the turn of the century, i heard that, and that does not make me 100 years old...

  • It's funny how this old Greek track is associated with Surfing. So random! lol

  • @EffLabels But I don't think this is a greek track anymore; it has been so changed and arranged...The greek one is really more folk, and I think Dick Dale did a great job with this song. My opinion.

  • Bring in the gimp. The gimp's sleepin. Well, wake him up.

  • bee happy just happy

  • Dick Dale perfected this song

  • What? A tiny red cock?! Oh! It's just the dislike bar c:

  • The original wasnt written by Nikos Roubanis , original was written aroun 1927 and Roubanis changed it a little bit and claimed the song around 1930 ;)

  • Actually none really knows whats the original. Stop this bullshit wikipedia fans.

  • @YesPapaa Sorry to burst your bubble but your ignorance doesn't constitute a worldwide phenomenon...The original is Greek written by Nikos Roubanis and sang by Tetos Dimitriades back in 1927.

  • @daweed420 i was saying "none" to avoid idiots saying shit. Ofc some ppl knows it but its better not to see 50 comments with fake info imo.

  • daweed420's comment is correct...

  • HERESY!!!!

  • sounds like pump it by black eyed peas

  • @Linkzcap pump it by the black eyed peas is a stupid ripoff of this song, which was originaly created for Pulp Fiction. This is real music. the black eyed peas song Pump it just says 3 words. (pump, it, and louder), all of which are just distractions from the actual music. this is not the only song that the black eyed peas has ass raped. i hope you brought some pencil and paper, cause you are about to get schooled.

  • @sonicridersmariokart This song is far and away from having been "originally created for Pulp Fiction". So yeah, pencil and paper, getting schooled...

  • @Linkzcap Lol

  • I like this song, shows Beach Boys also did instrumentals. This a timeless standard song. It's a guitar lesson 101.

  • originally its a old greek song, its still sounds greek, with an electric guitar , but i love this version . it gives me a hard-on.

  • Nice version. Both Beach boys and Dick Dale respected the original greek one by keeping the same title.

  • The pic is misleading. David Marks plays rhythm guitar on this. Al Jardine is not on this song at all.

  • greece hellas yeaaaa!

  • ilike the added bass and backing rythem.they did a nice job on this.ahhh the 60's!

  • Yikes. Leave the surf guitar instrumentals to the pros........or, maybe these were session guys, knowing the beach boys......

  • @ekleinbrink leave the comments to the pros.go back to your room you can come out at 4:09,the farmers daughter will be waiting to take you on a surfin safari, you'll be havin' fun all summer long.as long as you don't have a wipeout.don't worry baby, everything will work out alright.if it doesn't you can always meet jan& dean at surf city.

  • Dick Dale's version will always be the best.

  • My Misirlou (Egyptian girl), your sweet glance Has lit a flame in my heart. Ah, ya habibi, Ah, ya le-li, ah (Arabic: Oh, my love, Oh, my night‎)[2] Your two lips are dripping honey, ah. Ah, Misirlou, magical, exotic beauty. Madness will overcome me, I can't endure [this] any more. Ah, I'll steal you away from the Arab land. My black-eyed, my wild Misirlou, My life changes with one kiss Ah, ya habibi, one little kiss, ah From your sweet little lips, ah.
  • Dig the Greek beats

  • My version is louder

    user/MrGangana?feature=mhee

  • the guitar work is terrible on this cover. i'll probably get downvoted for this comment, but what the hell. i have to speak my mind, right?

  • A question: was anyone of the Beach Boys actually involved with this recording? This is an early track and their skills weren't too perfect yet on this era...

  • Dick Dale never made Misirlou.. The mere thought disgusts me. It is an ancient song, played by thousands and thousands of artists. My personal favorite with English lyrics, are with Connie Francis and Anita Darian. Because it does have lyrics, and many of them are quite beautiful.

  • What ever happened to David Marks???

  • @Diogenes1360 He dropped out of the group over disagreements with murry wilson then at some point they wanted him back but he was studying other styles of music then decades later when carl wasnt well he did go back in the group and he wrote an autobiography

  • the original is a greek composition from 1927, but dick dale made it his own, so no harm done it calling it "original"

  • Nice guitar work shared between Carl Wilson and the underrated David Marks, as with all the first three albums. As important a factor in establishing the Beach Boys' sound as the vocal harmonies.

  • the Original song was written in 1927 and it is a greek rebetiko song! even will i am is confused about the owner of the song! lol !! IT'S GREEK!! ;)

  • To make brainstorming on the origin of the song "Misirlou" more interesting, please listen to the discs bellow

    1. Misirlou (Vogue, 1952):

Misirlou - sang by Leo Fuld in Jiddish,

    2. Balkans en folie / Crazy balkans : POZA (Air Mail Music, 2003):

Жёпа небритая (Shopa nebritaja= Unshaved Arse) - sang by Alik Kopit in Russian

    peterelodi

  • What I love about The Beach Boys is, no matter what song they play, they do it well and it still has that unmistakable Beach Boys sound to it. They had one of the most unique and distinguishable sounds of their day. When you heard a Beach Boys tune, you knew right away it was one of theirs from the first few notes. They did a sweet version of Bill Doggetts Honky Tonk too. Such a clean pure tone in their music.

  • (In continuation from below) Dale having a middle eastern origin (his father was from Lebanon) imediately grasped the power of the song and consequently created with his band his brilliant, famous rock n roll arrangement of "Misirlou"! If you want to listen to "Misirlou" Greek lyrics just "Youtube": "Anna Vissi Misirlou"

  • Thank's to Pulp Fiction, "Misirlou" is today the Greek song you know the best. It has become even more famous than Mikis Theodorakis "Zorba the Greek"! Actually Misirlou is an old popular Greek song ("Rebetiko") influenced of course by middle-eastern melodies, as the song describes the crazy love that a Greek guy feels for a young and beautiful Egyptian girl. The song was very popular among USA greek communities when Dick Dale listened to it.

  • The story is a young fan asked Dale if there was a song that he could play with only one finger. As this is a traditional song, he took copyright to his arrangement..

  • Love this sound. Haunting and energized. Beauty.

  • There is a smoking hot version of Carl Wilson doing 'Let's Go Tripping' on the Beach Boys Concert Album from 1964. Check that out!

  • A great song Rock Surf Style, without doubt my favorite.

  • I'm pretty sure that's Alec Baldwin on the far right...

  • The anime Cowboy Bebop has a track named 'Heavy Metal Queen' inspired on this song, must listen.

  • mmm i like dick dale version a little bit more, but this one has a different feeling is pretty great too

  • carl was a very under-rated guitar player,i would put him right up there with dick dale.

  • Dick Dale was NOT the first to play this song. It is an old Greek folk song. "The song was first performed by the Michalis Patrinos rebetiko band in Athens, Greece in 1927. As with almost all early rebetika songs (a style that originated with the Greek refugees from Turkey), the song's actual composer has never been identified, and its ownership rested with the band leader"

  • "In 1941, Nick Roubanis, a Greek-American music instructor, released a jazz instrumental arrangement of the song" ,,,,,,"The song was rearranged as a solo instrumental guitar piece by Dick Dale in 1962"...."The Beach Boys recorded a Dale-inspired "Miserlou" for the 1963 album Surfin' USA" {time-line from wikipedia}

  • The Exotica version by Martin Denny is superb too recognize this too

  • Carl Wilson was so underrated as a guitarist. He was VERY good. An unsung hero if you ask me. His chops were as good as anyone else's. And I do know what I'm talking about.

  • freakin great song...

  • This needs some reverb badly.

  • Very good version of the song. It's more mellow than the Dick Dale version, but it does capture the feeling of the Beach Boys and the song.

  • Actually Glen Campbell, Leon Russell and Hal Blaine.

  • i had no idea the beach boys covered this song until i heard surfin safari, a tribute and, play this song in their set tonight at a show i went to. fucking badass

  • Actually, the original was written in 1927 as a greek rebetiko song.

  • @JGBaldursson this isnot rembetiko at all rembetiko is played and danced by drunks

  • @JGBaldursson you are wright

  • @JGBaldursson .... as per Wikipedia, the earliest recorded version was done by some "Greco" fella named "Michalis Patrinos" - the song used to be much slower and more seductive.... then: American Pop culture adopted it, and made it faster... and more "surfy"

  • Heard this when I played it off one of their albums I still have from the 60's. It was great then and great now. As is Dick Dale's version, the original?

    Thanks,

  • No......there is no original. The first person to play it was a Greek in the 40's, although its true creator is unknown.

  • @caponazgul Dick Dale's Misirlou Twist was released in 1962.. It was the original Track.. As for Quentin Tarantino's Pulp Fiction, it was released in 1994... Misirlou came way before Pulp Fiction..

  • Original 1940's Greek Composer, Dick Dales Version is a copy of his Lebanese uncle who used to play it at the Bars, NY etc...

  • wow ... i didn't know this ! is it as good as dick dale's version ?

  • @caponazgul i think just as good

  • @caponazgul Probably not. It was actually first peformed in the 20s. Check Wikipedia.

  • @caponazgul If you want the original, search for "misirlou patrinos"

  • @tigerssixty

The Original is from 1927, was written in Greek.

  • @JimmyTheGreek2000

Also believed to be from even older songs. There are also Turkish versions, Jewish versions and Armenian versions. The best evidence is that the song reached it's current form in the late 19th century before being adapted for dance band music by Michalis Patrinos in 1927, who probably wrote the lyrics himself.

  • @Hikikomori013 Nikos Roumpanis wrote the song actually...Not so well informed

  • @AlexBouzouki

I've never heard of him, but there's a lot of people I've never heard of.

There's the Nina Lotsari video that credits Roumpanis and refers to the Wikipedia listing, but the closest I found in the Wikipedia article was Nick Roubanis, who composed a jazz version in 1941.

Lacking further documents I'm going with traditional Anatolian adapted through Greek sources.

  • @AlexBouzouki Nikos Roumpanis has "stollen" this song back in 1941. The song was written in 1927 by unknown composer (as all rembetiko songs this time) and was first played by Patrinos. There is also a recording from 1927 from Dimitriades. Nic Roumpanis recorder a version back in 1941 and wrote him self as the composer. Since there was no one to claim the song he remaind in history as the composer.. Well you are not so well informed either ;)

  • @Hikikomori013 But the authorship of this song may be much older than that. I have heard this tune may go as far back as Biblical times.

  • @chev6art That very well might be true. The melody can be reliably traced to the late 19th century, and shows signs of having been much older than that.

  • @Hikikomori013 "There are also Turkish versions, Jewish versions and Armenian versions."

Actually, there are no Armenian or Jewish version etc. Sonce Ottoman Turks unlike it is believed today didn't try to asimilate ethnic groups. They appreciated talents whether he/she may be a Jew or an Armenian. After the collapse of the Ottoman's those ethnic groups in an attempt to create a culture for themselves claimed the Ottoman culture. Armenians and Greek still fight over baklava for example.

  • @Fussinated After the collapse of the Ottoman's those ethnic groups in an attempt to create a culture for themselves claimed the Ottoman culture. Armenians and Greek still fight over baklava for example.

Hahaha, what a turkish joke. It is well known that the first ottomans didnt have civilization and they steal it from all the nations they conquered and everything from the civilised Byzantine Empire. The first Ottomans ate milk and obviously they stole baklava from byzantine kitchen

  • @makispsihiatros "The first Ottomans ate milk and obviously they stole baklava from byzantine kitchen"

You don't eat milk you drink it, for a descendant of Byzantines you don;t deny your roots, remnants of the Romans. You are as ignorant and illiterate as your forefathers. Or could you really tell who your father is? Perhaps not a Roman but an Ottoman ha? Anyhow, Did you ask Armenians about the Baklava? They claim that it belongs to them. Perhaps you prefer to be owned by Armenians.

  • @Fussinated "drink milk and ate meat". That is the first and only Turkish Kitchen, a Mongol Kitchen. Obviously the MongolTurks were illiterate and ignorant. Greeks and Romans created the base for modern European Civilization. These things are well known in every student of history in Europe. You obviously are illiterate but it is ok. It is difficult to be a desendant of Mongols. Take some pills. As about Armenians wash your mouth when you talk about them. You Mongols genocided them.

  • @makispsihiatros "drink milk and ate meat"

Huh! as it is proven throughout the history, you need a Turk to correct you. So now you know better so adjust yourself and stop speaking lies. That's better for you Health.

  • @Fussinated Look, while your ancestors, the Mongols, where shepperds in the steppe of Central Asia, we, the Greeks, created philosophy, theatre, the science of mathematics, history, the Parthenon etc etc. And when you were eating goats and drinking milk, we had cholesterol. All the great modern historians write about all that. Then you came in Minor Asia and you destroyed everything, killing and raping etc. Thats why the Europeans called you "Barbarians". Take your pills.

  • @makispsihiatros Turks ruled you over 600 years, and you licked their ass during that time, So get over it you learned to lean the Turks for too long that is why now euroepans don't satify you. And they are not pleased with you as well I might add. So Gorw up and learn to digest that you are inferior to Turks.

  • @Fussinated O zaman Tanrı, gördükleri bütün yapıları, saygı duymadan, acımasız yıksınlar diye Türkleri yarattı. Türkler, yıktılar ve hâlâ yıkıyorlar. Kıyamet gününe kadar bunu yapacaklar.” From the book of Doğan Avcioğlu «Türklerin Tarihi I» p. 157, Istanbul 1989, p.Tekin Yayınevi). "Creating of the world is Greeks work. Destruction of the world is Turks work...Turks destroyed and they still destroy.Until the end of the world that is what they continue to do..".

  • @makispsihiatros Mevlana Jelaleddin Rumi for the Turks (600 years of destruction): “Yapım için Grek işçileri, yıkım için ise aksine Türk işçileri almak gereklidir. Zira dünyanın yapımı Greklere özgüdür. Yıkım ise Türklere ayrılmıştır. Tanrı evreni ilk kez yaratınca, ilkin tasasız kâfirlere can verdi…Onlar taşların zirvelerinde, tepeler üzerinde birçok kent ve kaleler yükselttiler…Ama Tanrı işleri öyle düzenledi ki, yavaş yavaş bu yapılar yıkılmaya yüz tuttular.

  • @makispsihiatros LOL! Do you know the meaning what you quoted at all?

If you do, Wander around your home town and spot the cultural monuments that you call Greek, say it to yourself that in Greek that "Wow! over 600 years Yurks couldn't bring donw a simple building we ar such good Architects."

Even though that would be a lie, it should give you saome pumped up ego.

Question: "Why do you hate Turks people this much? It was th Germons tried to vote you out of EU?"

    U r 1 confused Greek

  • @makispsihiatros Also after 600 years o fruling there is still Greek Orthodox Church active in Turkey, Yet there is not one single Turkish Muslims Islam center or even a cultural center over there.

What a double standarded bigots you cock sucking Greeks are. After NAzi's raped your women you still suck German dick to be in the EU spinelss cowards.

  • @Fussinated "Yurks could't bring donw" Are these English; And you "corrected" me; Mevlana corrected you and your Mongolian beliefs. Whatever you write doesnt change the fact that in history books all over the world the Greek civilization is considered one of the top in the world and the Mongolian one of the worst in the world. Also, you all the time use sexual insults. That your culture level. Anyway, i have better things to do than talk to a Mongol who cant discuss as civilized.

  • @makispsihiatros "Yurks could't bring donw"

LOL! I am a bad typer so what. At least I know the difference between what's dirnkable and what's edible.

"Greek civilization is considered one of the top in the world"

Oh! Is that why you lick Britishit ass and suck German dick to be in t he EU? Who would want such a top civilization? Are you sure you are not standing upside down?

  • @Fussinated LOL; You write bad, me i wrote something and youtube didnt take as i wrote it. Big deal. Also, We are in the E.E. not you. You beg Europeans to enter but they don't want you. We are not licking nobody. Obviously you are. And Europe will never accept you because you are Mongolians and not Europeans. Of course you have millions of people who are not of Mongolian descend but you like to kill them like the Kurds. That is your culture. Destruction as Mevlana said.

  • @makispsihiatros Also: Western civilization is based on Greek and Roman civilizations. Unfortunatelly for you that can't change. Eastern civilization is baced on Arab and Persian civilizations. You are in the margin of World's Culture. That is why we are superior than you. Because we "built" as Mevlana said and you "destruct". You genocided the christians of Minor Asia and kill the Kurds and you genocide "culturally" small minorities in Turkey today. Nice "superiority".

  • @makispsihiatros We also have many mosques (probably over 200) in Greece but you obviously don't know them. And a muslim minority of 100.000 people. You; You genocide the christians and now in Konstantinople live only 2000 Greeks. Congratulations! Also we fought the Nazi's in World War II and hundred of thousands Greeks died for World Freedom. What Turkey did; Neutrality! Wow! That is your culture. I repeat:your personal level of culture is writing sexual insults.

  • @makispsihiatros "We also have many mosques (probably over 200) in Greece but you obviously don't know them" There is no such thing you are lying. Greeks are liars anyway. Greek only die for money.

  • @Fussinated You cant say a single argument that is why you swear all the time! Hahaha, civilized dialogue needs two parts who use arguments. You just swear. You have lost your temper. We have about 200 muslim villages in Greece. Each one has a mosque, plus those in other cities that we preserve. See; You are a liar and an ignorant. Of course Eastern civilization is based on Arabs. That hurts for you. Thats because i am descendant of Plato and Aristoteles but you come from Mongols.

  • @makispsihiatros Sir Winston Churcill for Greeks in World War II: "Hence you will not say that Greeks fight like heroes but that heroes fight like Greeks". I have hundreds of statements form people of spirit about the Glory of Greeks and their civilization and heroism and hundreds of statements about Mongols cruelty. Civilization from one side - destruction from the other. Mevlana wrote these for you and there are more from him and the Arabs about you Mongols. Take your pills

  • @makispsihiatros I swear because you area cock sucking liar Greek. You lie constantly.

Ah thanks for explaining why lick Britishit ass.

Aslo, why are you trying to desperately defame Turkish people. Looks like you can't pass the inferiority complex against Turkish. Think, if you Greeks need Churchill to prove yourselves that you are brave and a great nation, then where is the top culture of Greeks without the Britishit? IDIOT

  • @Fussinated The greek region of Thrace and the island of Rhodos are infested with your species and your mosques, unfortunately it's true.

  • @Atreas40000 Unfortunately, you are liar, how many active churches are there? Your Church is still alowed to be active in Turkish Republic. Unless you are not talking about buildings ready to collapse as mosques, you are nothing but a liar.

  • @Fussinated These dens of muslim filth are active. I had the misfortune of living next to one in Komotini-Greece. It was called Yeni-Jami in your subhuman language.

  • @Atreas40000 Hey! asshole who fucked your mather so that you act like you carry a donkey size turd in your ass? If Britishits fuck you don't blame Muslims for that, IDIOT.

  • @Atreas40000 Also, your species infested everywhere even here in the US. Unfortunately, there is no remedy known to prevent this infestation by exterminators.

  • @makispsihiatros Ur in EU since they also need toilet cleaners in EU. The whole world now know that Greeks are liers, they lie for money. Who wants to be EU any more anyway, if you greeks are in it then it is a worthless piece of shit. That's 600 years you live under the rule of Turks, you still call yourselves as Greek don't you? Same fo rthe Kurds. What Mevlana said is now turning back onto yourselves. Even the Jews are given land for they were tretae unfair, U will learn about ur idiocy soon

  • @makispsihiatros Eastern civilization is based on Arabs? LOL! and u lick Arab dick too for their money? Good for you soon U will be nick named as the whore of Babylon.

    You built my ass,

  • @makispsihiatros There are many monuments and Buildings within Turkey built by the Greek and they are still standing. Do you Greeks who supposed to build the word, leave any buildings that were Built by Turks over there? Any mosques for example? Hagi Sophia is still where it was thousand years ago. Do you have any mosques in Athens?

"By the end of Ottoman rule, Athens had several dozens of mosques – now the only two are left but are not allowed to be used as mosques. "

    Some builders you are,

  • @tigerssixty

No, this song is a tradtional greek/turkish song.

    see watch?v=F6mfdTIrYnQ&feature=related

  • @tigerssixty The original is Greek. It was created during 1927. watch?v=LW6qGy3RtwY . It speaks about an Egyptian girl.
