Also in my experience volunteering at The Humane Society there are warning signs that suggest 2 cats are going to go at it and start fighting. I found in many cases they run into eachother and make this really low sickening growling sound and then hiss at eachother the ears go back and claws are out and the swiping of the paw is quicker not just batting eachother like these two were doing... And they go for the neck to cause damage... So these 2 were just playing... Great video:)
At first they looked like they were gonna go at it..but then I think maybe the male cat realized she was female? ... they seem to be playing now when I watch it more and more. Seems to me that they are becoming aquainted in a playful way.
oh that was cute --- I think they were half playing--my dogs did that when I introduced one to the other who had been there for a few years---and my cats fought like that too--but they liked each other :-)
moving into new surroundings is very stressful for an animal and can take time to become adjusted even without threatning surroundings. New sounds, new smells are all scary to an animal at first and they are most at ease when they can explore slowly in quiet. Other animals pre-existing in the surroundings will be very territorial and defensive of their home and owners and they will have an upper hand over a new cat that does not know the hiding places or dangers in the area.
This could have been all avoided if they were introduced to each other properly. Any time you are planning on introducing any new animals together, ensure that the new animal has been separated for at least 24 hours in a different part of the house. This allows them to get used to their surroundings in quiet without the feeling of threat and so you can ensure that they are not displaying any health concerns you may have not seen right away. Then allow them to meet gradually a bit at a time.
The cats were just feeling each other out. In fact, it was obvious to me that my male cat was smitten with the orange one. They both get along great, and every evening at dusk they do the same dance. It is almost a ritual of my day. Thanks for your comments.
@militaryqt They were not hurting each other at all. Anyone with experience with cats can see that. If they meant harm to one another, then the rolling would have been tighter and the fur would be flying. This doesn't appear to be a meeting at all - it looks as if the two have known each other for a while and were simply playing rough (like most cats do).
@militaryqt excatly what could have been avoided? them two playing together? My two boys (2 and 7yr old) do what happened in this video every day and they´ve been together 1½yrs. In fact things looked so smooth here that already in the beginning I doubted if this really was filmed during their first day together.
lool actually this reminds me of my friend she had a female siamese agressive cat and they were taking her to they're relative's house but when they saw they're cat they said no way we're not leaving our siamese with this huge male cat they came back in a few hours and they found the huge male cat hiding under the table scared of the female lool women could get agressive XD
they are not rare... between my cats and my parent's farm we have 12 and have had many more over the years .. all orange tabbies. One of mine is a female and four of my parents'are females. What is rare are male calicos

@militaryqt I hate when people give their little "expert" advice on here, it's so old and overdone...
