Paul Kurtz founded the atheist publisher Prometheus Books in 1969. He didn't found the American Atheist Press - that was founded by Madalyn Murray O'Hair.
Religious groups will never look upon us in a good light and a name change or some semantic crap like that isn't going to make any difference.
No, we're the ones they see as enemies and so they have to demonise us. Doesn't matter how hard we try, they'll always find a way to act as if we're the bad guys and they're the good because they need to stop atheism or their church won't grow - in fact it'll shrink into nothing.
@CuriousMoth I think I agree. We have to get the believers down to the level of astrologers, or even lower as many people still believe in that. Would we vote for Miss Cleo for president? Yes, I know, no test of religion, fine, but you get the point. Come to think of it we probably would vote for her, stupid asses.
@DiwataMan Wouldn't vote for mystic meg either, but there's really no so much difference between astrological psychic nonsense and human sacrificial dogmatic nonsense :P
I think it's possible to argue on the basis that atheism is not a choice for a sane, rational person. If I went against my own reasoning as a reasonable skeptic and empiricist, that is delusional; there would be something seriously wrong with me.
@TheKillerKlok I don't think there's anything wrong with his English, he's just mixed up and confused. Atheism is the only choice for a sane, rational person, provided that person has done a little research. Note that I say a little research because it honestly doesn't take more than that to realise how much nonsense religions contain.

Us being untrusted by the religious has nothing do with us, because it is there religion that teaches them how to fear and how to treat other people.
