  • Sakai is SO CUTE. I loved Michiba, too, though. Those two are my absolute favorite^^

  • hahaha this is funny

  • I loved Michiba, but Sakai was always my favorite. Big smile, great sense of humor, so humble and his meals always looked as good as I'm sure they tasted.

  • Did the chairman just eat a giant spoon of caviar???? WTF

  • "Im not sure how i can keep my position as a head chef into my 70s" Well Sakai Sensei, its now ten years later and you are 69 years old. You directly own four restaurants and are the undisputed master of French Japanese hybridizations, and a person whose knife skills I've never seen surpassed. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for one of the best meals I've ever personally eaten, and years of culinary education and entertainment.

  • "The Melancholy of Hiroyuki Sakai" anyone?

  • I saw Sakai at Opus One winery in Napa - opus is the Robert Mondavi/Baron Rothschild winery to make Bordeaux style wines in CA. Recall, the bordeaux appellation only refers to wines from the bordeaux region. These are meritages in the states...he bought two bottles of wine..a 2007 and a 2005 cab...still too young to drink now..wait 10 years...total cost: about 500 dollars with tax. He was wearing the same tan suit...he was in NAPA for a CIA japan-US cooking event.

  • hahaha!looks to me like sakai was avoiding his former classmates!lol! :D

  • the reason why i like the iron chefs so much is that they're all so humble and down to earth. their character is all reflected in their food

  • damn... they all wear normal clothes? haha man...

  • 8:06 holy shit is that just ALL caviar?!

  • I was laughing so hard at this!!!

Not cos of the cuteness of the story, but cos of the hilarious dubbing.

Sakai looks adorable in that apron and throughout the scenes

  • why almost are all japanese pictures are all in black and white?

  • @fardisghomeshi

because they're pretty much all pictures from the 50s, think about how old those people are.

  • Now that's how you build up a battle

  • Love Sakai!

  • @TheMrpalid fuck you asscunt.

  • ok so the dubs are cheesy, I like how they have a more personal bit on Sakai

  • Please explain how Iron Chef America can compete with the original iron chef. There is no logical explanation.

  • @howard205 Well, there is....um....well.....damn you and your logic!

  • god the dubbs suck shoot me now actually let me finish the ep then shoot me

  • @tkusler2 That's half the fun!

  • this is my fav battle! sakai-san is so cute in that field!!

  • Iron Chef Sakai needs to be in the history books, he needs to be remembered forever, there needs to be a book about him, he's truly a great man

  • iron Chef Sakai is so adorable

  • Lol, epic dub.

  • lol there was even a lil' dub for the bite

  • LOOOOOOL!!! the dub is so freakin cheesy that it's really great again. this show is so epic:D

  • especially the part when he meets his friend LOL.

  • Holy shit!

    Sakai as a schoolboy?

Sakai stealing potatoes on his way back from school?

    Lol!

    Funny!

    Sakai is so cute, lol.

  • @LovelyYTRocks u must be a chick

  • @JokaPlaya mainly because the Cooking Channel does not have permission to use the Backdraft theme. However, the new music is so awful because we are use to watching this show with the backdraft soundtracks. It get us going from start to finish.

  • Actually, "Krape" is just right, being the "Englishified" version of a French word. You can't sit there and give the word back its original pronunciation when using it in another language (especially if the word is INTEGRATED in that other language). On TOP of that, "Krape" is the CLOSEST pronunciation to its original counterpart, and if you were to order a "Krape" in France, everyone would understand you (and look at you with burning disdain because you're an "etranger," an outsider).

  • his professor must be really old

  • This is like the crack of all cooking shows ever XD

  • "Uhhh...Sakai?

You see that guy standing behind you? The one with the shotgun?

    I think he remembers too."

  • Shotgun? This is an Arctic Warfare Magnum, i'm making sure Sakai doesn't kidnap my pet and cook him.

  • what a coincindence!

  • I LOVE thses back stories!!!! Even when its on an ingredient.

  • I love the "old guy voice" they gave Sakai's teacher. The English dubbing is awesome.

  • Heh, the theatrics of this whole thing is so blatant. "I came here alone. Well, me and the camera crew here."

Also, I love how he just 'happened' to run into the guy to whom Makio gave that letter. That doesn't really seem like the most effective way to deliver letters. "Oh, hi. Here's a letter for a former classmate who lives in an entirely different city. If you run into him, could you give it to him? Thanks!"

  • But then, that's what makes Iron Chef Iron Chef, hmmm? The unnecessary dramatics.

  • exactly, I can't even watch the American version, I find it very boring. The only reason this worked was the dubbing and the quirkiness of the whole show

  • Yes! The dubbing. it's so wonderfully awful :D I probably wouldn't even want to watch this subbed

  • The camera crew was there because Sakai was visiting his hometown. Everything that happened came out from that. I'm sure if you became famous and visited your hometown, old friends would show up to see you too..

  • Next you'll try to sell us that Chairman Kaga didn't actually build Kitchen Stadium. :-) Heretic! It *is* amusing, isn't it?

  • excallant video archo!
