  • I really get a lot out of your lessons so thanks for posting them. Your videos got me fired up to learn the modes, no small task. I have a question, if I'm playing a I-ii-IV-vi progression should I use the Ionian for the 1st, the Dorian for the 2nd, the Lydian for the 4th and the Aeolian for the sixth? Is that how the modes should be applied?

  • hey man! wat coloured bass is that? and wat other brands do u play??

  • I just love ur whole approach to the bass!!

u r definatley an influence on me man!!

u hav such a clear tone on ur bass.

u play it lik a solo instrument,

u remind me of Geddy Lee..

  • I am honored!!! Geddy is one of my most favorite bass players. A huge influence on me

  • haha! thats ok, I've only been playing Bass 4 abt 3 years nw!

    once I heard The Who

    (are my favourite band),

I decided to take up bass!!

and then later became a lead singer lol.

  • Learn your major scale!!!!!!!!!! Everything comes from it, chords, arpeggios, modes. It is the most important thing you can ever learn my friend!! Even for singing!

  • Be really careful as to the amount of time you are practicing. You do not want to hurt yourself or develop carpo. Start out with your major and minor scales and play them all over your neck.. Just like you are developing your hands you are also developing your mind and your memory to retain all these new concepts. Don't let this book of scales confuse you, many times publishers will put all the same scales in every different key which makes it seem like there is millions of scales. What book?

  • what the hell is a mode. i earlier learned that a major is just a pattern...but you just did something else and called it a major...god im really not getting this

  • I dont think im ready for the fancy mode names yet. lol But I got a question, I'm learning pentatonics right now, is it possible to change which key youre in, while in the same song?

  • You sure can!! There is alot of different ways of changing keys in a song. Alot of song have a couple different keys, one way they change keys is called modulation. Two keys that have common notes, but not all the same notes, as modes do. Hope that helps my friend.

  • hey this good video thank you.

  • Thanx man I do appreciate it!!

  • you explained it BETTER than everybody else! very clear, you just open my eyes a bit wider lol! Great stuff.

  • I am so glad that I was able to help, even just a bit. When you can grasp the idea , all things make more sense and fall into place way easier. Thanx Barry

  • Great lesson Berry! Keep them coming.

  • Which one can get you laid faster? Bass or guitar?

  • I know all my scales, major, minor, chords, pentatonic. (I play piano) But..lol I need to learn this!

  • Yeah I need to learn this lol

  • It would be nice if these lessons were close up.

I looked at this, doesn't look bad. But...eh.

You have a really nice bass tone tho.

  • Thanx. It's the jazz and that B-DEC amp. The camera stuff will get better, but all the stuff I'm playing is on my myspace/basslessonsbyberry in tab charts. It.s located in my PIC'S. I've also got some drums beats there to play with. There's all kinds of 1string scales great for slappin to.

  • We dont' want to know this ccrap. How about you just slap?

  • Along time ago I said those same words. Don't worry, if you keep at it you'll grow to realize that even to be a good slap & pop bassplayer you need this or you are just some mediocer run of the mill bassist. Good Luck!!!
