leafs back before the lockout actually had leadership and heart. we even had premier players and a superstar goalie unlike now. today, no one worthy of wearing a C on their jersey and no one that is a fan favorite and no superstar player or goalie,
I miss the old Leafs, but i go back to the days of Sittler,Salming, and McDonald.
Not sure what this team is trying to accomplish. Because after all this wheeling and dealing over the past 4 years, we still need 2 first line players, and a #1 goalie. We traded Stempniak, i knew that was going to be a mistake. Since going to Phoenix, and playing with Wolski, Stemp has been on a tear. All the Leafs needed was a 1st line center...aaarrrggghhh.... the post Mats years.
This was a great game. We'd gotten crushed in game 3, and HAD to take game 4 to avoid going down 3-1. With us up a goal going into the 3rd, the Devils dominated the 3rd period, but Cujo was a monster, keeping that one goal lead. Claude Lemeiux scored on a garbage goal with like 3 minutes, devastating. But then Tomas scored this monster goal, and I took off running around my basement pumping my fist. Gotta love Sundin and Stumpy's reactions on the bench.
He may be loyal to the Leafs, but why wouldn't he go to Vancouver/Montreal? I'm not saying he will sign there and I doubt he will, but I don't see why he wouldnt go to a contender, unlike the Leafs (in obvious re-building mode).
You may be right, I personally can see Sundin going to Vancouver long before Montreal but Montreal has a huge advantage. Their travel is much much better.
But its pointless now, Bob Gainey already stated that he is out of the Sundin sweepstakes.
personally, i like the new nhl but i haven't seen any memorable playoff series in it. in the old nhl, there were so many amazing series. i mean leafs-devils, leafs-sens, leafs-isles, leafs-hurricanes, stars-oilers, devils-flyers...list goes on and on. with this new nhl, there are tooo many blowouts in the playoffs, no historic rivalries.
lol, hurricanes as champs??? i think they were a good team that year but they never played in any classic series that season. and last year, all of the sens series finished in 5 games.:S
Leafs and Devils always played a great series, just ashame that the Leafs always lost to them. I think this was the series where the Devils won game 6 with the Leafs getting only 6 shots
This series (2000) wasn't bad. But the following year's second round series (2001) was amazing. It went the full 7 games. The leafs had just swept the Sens in the first round, and the Devils were the defending champs, so it was like the real conf finals. I know the Leafs went further in 99, and 02, but that 01 team may have been the best Leaf team in the Pat Quinn days.
Its either this year or the next year that the Leafs only managed a piss poor 6 shots in the final game of the series. I remember watching the game and I was amazed on how Jersey kept them so in checked.
it may have been. i remember in 2000 sundin was virtually invisible because holik was all over him, but sundin couldnt be contained in 2001. i remember in the 2001 series toronto had the chance to win the series in game 6 at home, and everyone was looking ahead to the semi-finals...sundin hit 2 posts that game and toronto ended up losing the game either by a goal, or 2 goals (one of them being an empty netter) i'm not sure but they ended up losing game 7 big time unfortunately.
I dont know if anyone noticed but thats the good ol' Gritty WENDEL CLARK on the ice wearing #17 at the foot of the crease to the goalies left, when Kaby scored. His 3rd go-around with the Buds!
until i saw Game 6 against the Flyers that year i have never heard it so loud, nor yelled so loud, like when Lemieux tied it up just a few minutes before
Kaberle scored a very similar goal in the following year (2001 Playoffs, Conf Semis, @New Jersey, game 5, last minute) ... still trying to find that video
im just hoping he does this to vancouver now forever a leaf he deserves a cup

SOME PLEASE REPLY TO THIS
i swear he did the same thing the next year in the 2001 ECSF, did he not?
MEGAxxxDETH666 2 years ago
Yes he did... in game five in NJ, which was the game after the Domi/Niedermayer incident.
I can't find it on youtube, but I remember it was a controversial goal because a Leaf ran over Brodeur in the crease seconds before.

Vancouver is an entirely different story! But, to be honest, I don't think Sundin has a the heart to play for the Canadiens. Maybe it's just me...

YOU ARE SO RIGHT. WOW. I'VE NEVER SEEN IT PUT BETTER THAN YOU JUST DID. The 90's/Early 2000's were what hockey was all about. Fuck I miss those days.

I was at game 6 at ACC. I agree, 2001 was the year Sundin really stepped it up. He's been a god on ice ever since then.
