  • That's exactly what happened to me!!!

  • Are you fucking retarded they give you a longer titanium piercing to allow for swelling, you should complain to the studio where you got it done if they didn't inform you

yes i know this is an old video but i felt inclined to clear the obvious

  • Some times when i eat i just hold it ;).

  • i want to know exactly how many dayz will it be sowllen , im thinking about getting mine done but my parents ar e against it so please answer me :) :*

  • @sammendezlover it takes weeks to heal. I think the time was from 4-6 weeks before you could change to a shorter stud. It took me around 5 weeks I believe, though that was 4 years ago now. Everyone heals at a different rate so your experience could be completely different. Good luck!

  • I had the same exact problem!!

  • What if i get a labret with flat back jewelry? Also im going to camp 10 days after schools finishes, will it be a good idea to get it before or after the camp?

  • erm, i got snake bites done and i got them done just a tiny bit lower than normal, only a bit tho, and the studs dont catch at all! also, be careful with cleaning too much, if the surface of ur tounge goes white, stop cleaning it so much cos it takes away the good bacteria tht it needs to heal!!!!

  • great video! it look great and you're really pretty ^^ :)

  • I got spider bites done about 2 weeks ago, I got pierced with horseshoes and I'm SO glad I did, there's no worrying about chomping down on the jewelry. The only problem that I had was when I ate like a burger or something where I have to bite into it with my whole mouth it hurt really bad because of the pressure on the rings. So I just cut everything up into bite size pieces.

I just changed to a bar and my lip swelled a bit and I had the problem of biting on it, just chew slowly! :)

  • is it a 1.2?

  • ok so i jsut got mine like 5 hours ago and i have the same problem.im afraid soop and liquids wont do it for me,im a big eater, meat is my favorite vegetable:)) anybopdy haves any sugestions on how i can stop biting down on the julery?thanks

  • @metalking777 my advice is just consciously chew every bite but even then you will bite down on the jewelry so just be patient for it gets better as time goes on and then you can get a smaller piece and it won't happen anymore.

  • @DevouredJune hey yea thanks.well iv started chueing more to the inside and more on the sides and iv seem not to bite on it anymore.like it happenbes sometimes but not all that much:D

  • For me it wasn't, it never got in the way, really but shaving was an ordeal, and eventually made it infected because I had to get too close to the pierced skin. If you're a smooth shaving type take note of this, and don't be too excessive with the razor around the punctured skin.

  • I've got my labret on the right side and I bit on the stud, too. And I can tell, it really really really hurts, as you said. So, eat careful !

  • Im going to wait for mine to heal then take it out while I eat then after Im dun put it back in heh.

  • @bigfootdriftergirl27 You're going to be eating soup for like 6 weeks bub. It's really not a problem eating with the piercing in. It's different for everybody but generally you adjust to the jewelery.

  • i had mine done. but i took it out after a few hours cause it kept rubbing with my tooth and i found it very hard to eat with it as i kept biting the stud.

  • omg i wanted to get the labret piercinf for agers but am now scared to lol i dont want it to kill every time i eat

  • The bar is long so it has room to swell after you get it pierced - which it will. I have mine done as a Madonna, which is on the right side of the upper lip, but it's the same jewelry that they use. After it's healed you can change it and you should be able to use a shorter bar with a rounded back to it. The piercing jewelry has a very flat back on it but most of the ones you can buy have a rounded back, which keeps it from getting stuck on your gum.

  • @WednesdayisEmo oh is that why they gave me a long bar?:L cause it keeps like lifting up when i try chew something :L

  • @opto1890 that would be why. Mine was very uncomfortable and I had problems with it getting caught on the top of my gum. Give it a month or so, get some good, high quality jewelry (watch out for nickel if you're allergic to it - go for surgical stainless steel) and take it to your piercer. They should be willing to do your first change out free or for very little money. You'll be more comfortable with a regular length bar. Make sure it's healing well before you have them change it, though.

  • @WednesdayisEmo ori thanks :L now the only thing botherin me is all the shit about receeding gums n all :/

  • @opto1890 I wouldn't worry about it too much. I had mine done a long time ago - it was in for years and never gave me any trouble. Just keep your mouth clean and healthy and you should be good to go!

  • thank you for this video..i want to get mines on the side and i'm glad i actually found someone to give me some heads up

  • Anyone know why it's embedding itself in the back of my lip? Feel like bar is too small, but it's still swollen. guess I'll just wait and chill, keep cleaning it and see what happens lol. Give it a few days, should be ok i hope.

  • I'm sure you know this by now, but you have to wait for it to heal so you can get a smaller sized bar, which won't hook on your teeth when you eat. But until then it's the long one for when it gets swollen.

  • looks good and so do you ;p

  • that happened to me too but i just learned to eat slower. I swear this piercing is going to make me skinny lol

  • i kept biting down on mine too! it got really annoying lol

  • hey do u think its ok to change just the stud while the piercing is still healing?

  • yeaa you can do that just be careful hahh:)

  • can you drink alcohol after getting this done?

  • that post is long, mine show much and it didn't really swell a lot, i've had it for about a 2 weeks. i guess my piercer just got it right and gave me a good size post. mine also has puss but only after it gets wet, i clean it in the morning and night. I use water with sea salt, theres a spray that you can buy ^_^. ...DONT use mouthwash with alcohol, it will irritate the skin...only use it after you eat, its better if you just use bottled water.

  • Your bar is probably a bit long so that's why you catch it with your teeth. It would be a good idea to get a larger ball on the end so you don't risk pulling it through the hole.

Also, try to find non alcohol mouthwash

  • Yeah...when they gave me my first bar it was really long because of the swelling and when it went down, it began to catch on my teeth. I went back in and they gave me a smaller bar and it was fine after that. Had mine done for almost a year now

  • No it's not bad for it 2 b pussing it's normal! If the piercing is sinking in go 2 the piercer and show them. If the skin starts to grow over then u need 2 get a longer post. It's way normal for it to hurt but if it persists longer than a month u should definately get it checkd!

  • Ok i just got a labert on the side on saturday.. And no it didnt hurt when i got it but now its swollen and like the back piece looks like its sinking into my lip. My mom says it normal and it will sit up like it supposed to when it heals. It doesnt really hurt it more like a burning feeling but i keep it clean.. Eating isnt a problem it hurts to smile a little bit. Is it normal for it to puss or is that bad?? Someone help me please!!!

  • puss is normal iv had mine done twice. and i used to sometimes pull it abit but that was when i used to play with it. i used savlon spray to clean mine

  • so seeing a little white puss IS normal?? cuz i have a little and im not sure if it is infected.

  • thank you for making this video. would having a ring instead of a bar make any difference? i am considering getting a labret but keep finding out that it maybe chip teeth.

  • they have these new bars now they are called bioplast. its a plastic bar and cant dammage your teeth or gums

  • thanks for doing this video! i get asked about piercings and their care all the time; i'll just send people this link instead of talking forever. i'm glad someone on youtube is doing something informative!

  • You get used to it - don't worry! I have my side labret pierced and I used to have a hoop. Now, that was difficult to eat with for the first week.

Sounds like you're taking good care of it though.

  • just push it out with ur tongue before u chew. the bar might be too long for ur normal use, as that happened to me when I got my piercing.

after it was healed properly i got a shorter bar :)

  • is it okay if i use table salt and warm water instead of sea salt and warm water? I MIIIIGGGGGHHHHHTTTT be able to get sea salt if i rli need it but if it dosent matter than itll just make my life easier :)

  • NO! Do not use table salt. It will irritate the wound and make it much harder for your piercing to heal properly and quickly.

You can get sea salt for really cheap at most grocery stores anyway. It's usually with the spices.

  • The reason that table salt isn't a good idea is because of the iodine in the salt. It can cause oral infection if not treated correctly.

  • Yes, I'm aware of that.

  • im getting my labret in 3 days, and i was just wondering about the pain when getting it done, i know that pain is different for everyone, but if you were to rate the pain for you on a scale of 1-10 what would it be!?. thxx : ]

  • The Pain Was Like 1, It Sucks When You Catch It On Your Teeth.

  • i got my second one yesturday and its swollen so much! i think it's because i touched it with my dirrty hands alot. what should i do?? i rinsed my mouth with salt water but i dont think that works well. i dont want to have those "abnormal" growth" kinda thing where the shape of the area pierced would be altered. do you have any tips or suggestions? thanks!

  • Just use a Q-tip with mild soap to clean around and move the bar in and out to let that clean out as well. Go about your normal routine and hands off!! =) It should get better on it's own if you remove the irritation (in this case dirty hands).

  • i got my snake bites done today and im biting em too

  • thats wat happened to me

  • I'm having the same problem with my madonna... lol I can't eat squat hardly with it... I got it done last night and when I started to eat this morning the post moved and I paniced since I thought it came out.. The back rubs my gums and kinda pops on the bone in my mouth and its very uncomfortable if I talk allot... It also bleeds if I talk allot... I never saw any of these things mentioned in all of the videos I watched... Glad you touched on them!

  • I wouldn't worry about this too much, once it's healed up swap it for a shorter bar and it'll stop catching your front teeth. Easy :)

  • yea when i got my labret done after i got it done liike 10 mins later i took a bite of my bros pizza & i bit down on it ... very painful =[

  • i got mine done yesterday and the swelling is going down but eating is a ecore

  • i might be getting my labret pierced, but if i ever want to take it out permently will there be a hole there or will it heal up?

  • depends when you take the jewelry out. if you have it for a long time itll stay longer but eventually itll close up. maybe not heal up but itll be too small to put anything through.

  • My friend who had it done a couple years ago can put a toothpick in it but it healed on the inside. the skin on the outside didn't close up. Mine is a smaller gauge so I would think mine might heal up more than his. Plus as wiggle said it does depend on how long you have it in.

  • i have my labret done my suggestion would either get a ring or just take it out so you don't get it messy

  • i just got mine pierced to and everytime i eat the stud also gets caught on my teeth and pulls it up. that is one thing my piercer didnt mention might happen

  • i just got mines done... and it at first scrape on the bottom of my teeth and gum... and bother me while i was chewing... but now its been 3 wks, the swelling went down, and i dont have any more problems... it dont bother me at all.. it feels like nothin is there and it dont hurt like it use to...

  • Who the hell are you to judge someone's appearance? Unless, i'm missing some personal vendetta here, that's completely uncalled for.

  • how about.. you shutup!

  • You're a fuck.

    I think she's pretty.

  • yeah i had that too. and i didnt have the labret. it still hurt like a bitch! :(

  • i am in the exact situation! i am totally new to peircing and libret is the only one im hav had done cause i like the look of it. iv had it for a day now but im considering taking it out cause of that eating problem, i really dont want to lose it but i dont wanna struggle eating :{

  • Shit, I had the same problem too.

    Hurts so muuuch. x__x

But then after three days I went to my piercer and changed the jewelry. o/

    Problem solved. ;]

  • i think maybe it would be better when it heals and you have a shorter stud maybe?? i dont know but i hope it works... im getting mine done today

  • Wow, I have the same...

I've got this piercing since yesterday, but damn.. eating...

I was eating when suddenly de long stud became behind my teeth, and it would not let go for the first 2 minutes... And damn, that hurts...

  • mine go chaught on my teeth when eatting for a little while just after having it done but sorted itself out quick for me havent had the problem since and i have had it for about a year now

    a shorter bar will help

it happend for a freind of mine aswell but they just found a different way to eat by slighty pushing on their lip so tht the bar went down instead of comming over the theeth

  • i have a fresh labret piercing, and the stud on the inside of my lip tends to sink slightly when i eat. like, it was like this | and now it's like this /. is it normal to do that? and i have bitten down on my jewerly before, it did get stuck on my teeth, but i did not pull it through though. is there anything else i should know? it's almost a week old.

  • i'm having the same problem.. hurtss!!!

  • It most certainly will go away (the pulling of the bar) with a new and shorter piece of jewelry. I still on occasion will get the bar pulled back but it doesn't hurt and it isn't nearly like it was when healing. My bar is 3/8" length and I'd like it if they sold something between that and 1/4" that would be the perfect size but alas I have not found anything like that.

  • I got mine a week ago and had the same problem. After the swelling went down I didn't seem to have as much of a problem but was eating a burger today and damn near ripped the thing off from chomping down on it. Ouch. I'm hoping when I get the bar replaced by a shorter one this problem will disappear?

  • i got mine done too and it was the same way. but the dumb fuck told me it was a longer stud and when i took it out to change it, it was the same length of my replacement studs i bought at hot topic

  • oh god xD mine was like that too lol

i have it done on the side, and was eating soup for a week XD ah well =)

    looks great honey ;)

  • Yeah i had the same problem i got mine done yesterday and am going back to get it taken out today i didn't like it which is a shame coz it looks dam awsome

  • Maybe they did yours too high. I just got mine yesterday, and havent had a problem cept that it's of course swolen... The day after. And I looked at the plate (the back of it), and some thin skin is kind grown around the edges and was wondering if that is to be expected period or just during the swelling.

  • The way your skin is by the plate is going to stay that way. It's because of the piercing sitting there. I still have that and my boyfriend just got his done and he has the same thing. As long as it isn't irritated it should be fine.

  • Just got mine today. The list of questions asked if I had eaten in the past 4 hours. No, I hadn't. By the time it was done, I was hungry. BAD IDEA.

Should have gotten lunch before I went.

By the way, DevJune, you are really cute. :)

  • Actually what I noticed with this piercing is that when I had the bar like you have there it used to wear down alittle of the guns on the bottom. So I switched to a clear stud which never touches your teeth you don't even feel it at all it's like a retainer but isn't. ALSO I took mine out a couple months ago this is a hint of your future, you will have a nice dent that doesn't go away. It just never heals and disappears, They never tell you that either.

  • gums*

  • pronounced la-br-Ay. not la-bret.

just so ppl kno mainly wash in the morning and at night with soap(along w. brushing your teeth and rinsing w. mouthwash) i dont use mouthwash after everything i do an i have 0 problems with eating or anything at all. but when u do get the chance do use mouthwash.

  • I want my lip pierced again so badly ... mine went horribly wrong :(

  • Thank you lots!

  • i agree i had a few issues which eating but after a few days the mouth gets used to it

  • Well, Even after healing watch it. I have chipped Enamel on my two lower front teeth. I have had it for 3 years-

  • when i got mine done, i thought it was too low but apparently the technical labret is the line right where your lip and chin meet. did anyone else hear this?

  • I think the placement is individual. It depends on how your face maps out. My piercing is in a different place than my boyfriends but both look fine and don't rub against the gums. So, it can vary. Of course, I'm not a piercer myself but that's my take on it.

  • yeah, alright. i suppose as long as the inside of your mouth is comfortable, who cares where it's placed.

  • what kind of Dial soap? do u just get it at a drugstore? haha i've never used it

  • You can find it at pretty much any grocery or pharmacy store. It's orange and has the brand name printed pretty big on it. Hopefully your piercer will give you a care package like mine which included a little bottle of dial soap.

  • It's going to be annoying when you eat for the first month or so. As soon as it heals completely you can get a smaller bar. Trust me... it's like there's nothing in your mouth at all when you eat because it's tighter. But DON'T RUSH IT. Just giving a hint for anyone thinking about getting this piercing.

  • You'll get used to it, hun. It has to do with how far you open your mouth to chew. You will learn to compensate.

P.S. It looks really pretty :)

  • you get used to it and stop biting it.

  • the piercing coming up through the lip is a vertical lebret.

  • I have my right side and labret done, they are both now fully healed, bascially everything you just said is completely normal because off the swelling the bar is going to interfere with your teeth, as you have the piercing for longer the sweeling will go down and you will begin to realize that you are eating normally and fine again, the only tips i can give you for the time being is either eat slowly or eat with your mouth open.

  • hey thanks for the video.

im getting mine done in december for my b-day.

but i think i should only get it done after my braces come off.

do you think the piercing would get stuck on them?

  • It should look straight and even with your face. I was never told what you were told. It could be that the swelling is making it a little crooked but I've never heard that. I suppose just wait till it heals and see then. Hopefully your piercer didn't do it wrong. Mine took a lot of time to match it evenly with my whole face and not just my lips.

  • hey I just got my labret pierced on Friday and it looks strait and right in the middle on the inside but on the out side it looks like its more to the left I was told that its normal cuz it's still swollen just wanted to know if this happened to you as well and if it does go back to being strait (if that makes any sense)

  • I had the same problem, but I quickly learned to chew my food in either side of the mouth and didnt have any problem with it. Happen like 5-6 times after that during the next month before I changed to a shorter one. Never had any problem since

  • did it hurt because im thinking of getting a a labret peircing

  • Of course it hurt! They stick a huge needle through your lip. But it is quick and if you like a little pain it's nothing. It takes 2 seconds. I highly recommend getting it. I love mine!

  • It depends if the bar is too long, but remember not to change the bar to the right lenght untill the healing period has finished... This happened to me aswell and I asked my friend what to do :D

    Hope this helps a little :D x

  • thats happened to me a few times....dosent once ya get used to it xx

  • i have my monroe done just a few days ago and eating for me has been really hard and sore :(

  • "you dont chew you, you just have to gum it like an old person. yeah." *grin*

    hahahahahahaha. just loved that part.

glad to hear someone's firsthand account of it, im assuming youre in the first few days just byt he way youre tlaking about it. but it looks really good for so soon :)

  • I got pierced yesterday on the left side of my labret and I have the same problem! when I eat the labret bar on the inside stucks on my tooth! That reeeeeally hurt!

  • yeah i had the same problem with my left side piercing but i have a ring in

i was eating a hamburger and i bit down on it it hurt sooooo bad

  • OMG Thanx this is very very useful <3 ohh and a tip: get a big ball ...so u dont end with the entire balbel inside ur mouth

  • bahh! yooh big saddow soophie weird oh

  • :P i dont have lip piercing "thats one reason i dont like it in D middle if i get one" kus ill sumtyms bite n pull on it when eatin n 2ndly ull slowly loose the gum that surround under ur teeth "over the years u keep wearing it"(not sure tho) my friend has a tongue piercing n she said da piercer said drinkin lemon tea makes it heal XD "i have nnooooo idea" if dats true tho.. maybe u should get a round ring which u shove d endin inside d hole of d ring maybe datll help from accidently bitin it

  • wow. I just got a monroe about 2 months ago and I was having the SAME problems but after I changed it to a normal size bar I am having no problems with it...

  • Thanx for this video. Cause this is what im getting next. Cause i already have my tongue done and wen i first got that its hard to eat with it..so i guess it wont matter really. lolz

  • your labret piercing was placed too high thats why its getting caught up on your teeth

  • excellent video there. lots of useful information. i am getting my labret done soon but like you am researching it first.

  • im gunna repierce my labret lower, i had my earrings and labret ring taken out for about 9 months, and im missin em :/ i need to pierce my labret realllly low, scraping on my teeth = bad, i love my teeth lol

  • Thanks, my boyfriend my get this, all these comments are giving great information!

  • Thanks for this video, im having the exact same problem right now but im just taking it slooooowly when I eat. Its worth it definently but just a bit of a pain eating. Your labret looks really good on you though as an aside.

  • just don't eat in a hurry as you have a fresh wound. go steady at first. If you pulled your bar into your lip the ball is too small.

Don't rinse too much as you need SOME bacteria to help it heal. Rinse with water and NEVER use Listerine

  • I used Listerine And I Have Four Piercings Along My Mouth, Worked Wonders, And Made It Heal Quicker :)

  • If it works for you then cool. I find its a bit too harsh. Salt is much better but do what works for your body

  • You have an awesome looking labret which suits you extremely well. I noticed you also have a tongue piercing. I look forward for your tongue piercing observations!

You're a nice looking girl - and this labret/tongue stud makes you look even better!

  • Also, there's something called a "fishtail" that's supposed to better for people who are worried about gum erosion - a possible side-effect for bad placement of labret piercings.

The piercing that your piercer has is called a "vertical labret".

Hang in there! You'll get used to it and should be able to eat normally soon! =)

  • Is there actually anything to worry about with gum erosion? I've heard that it only happens if you have it for more than a few years.

  • Obviously the longer you have it, the worse it can possibly get.

I guess if you only plan on having it temporarily, then you don't have to worry much. But most people that I know (including myself), have kept it in for at least a few years.

  • Also, a small study was recently done:

"The study looked at 58 subjects, of whom the average age was 22. Half of the subjects had the lip piercing.

Of those with the piercing, 41 percent had receding gums, compared with only 7 percent of those with unpierced lips. Gums had receded more than twice as much in those with the piercing, and subjects who had their piercings for the longest time also had the worst gum recession."

Too bad it doesn't mention how long they've had their piercing for.

  • I had the same problem with eating when I first got my labret piercing - the back would snag on my tooth and pull - but I think it was mainly only on the first day.

It also depends on what type of jewelry you get pierced with - I think that's why they sometimes recommend getting a ring so that it can be easily turned while healing and so that it won't snag.
