I thought it was a hell of a performance by both musicians. especially and./ well- to- do singing. It's just a.. fucking cover.; I watched and heard,, I didn't fucking think of Neil Young ever more than once.
It's kinda hard for me to hear someone say they are a "real Neil Young fan" and make a coment like that but hey, to each his/her own. To me the cover didn't come anywhere near the passion and evocative musings of Neil doing it with the Horse or by himself or with Mathews et al. But as they say beauty is in the ear of the be-hear-her. Just my opinion for what it's worth. More power to this band and these cats!!!
@curiousgeorge555 Your opinion is worth a lot. You tell em Jack. They heard you and silenced this record I think? Never trust "a real fan of Neil Young" .. OBVIOUSLY the syntax is not that of a real fan.
I am a real fan of Neil Young, indeed. But sometimes I think that this cover by Elliott Murphy and Olivier Durand (on lead) is even better than the original.
Thanks. Yes, I know your work. You got some good songs, and you're a true believer in r'n'r, I love that, but when I read your interviews I always think: Too pretentious, not enough talent. You talk like you were an accursed poet always driving the losing car because the music business or maybe the world isn't good enough for you. If you were Robert Johnson, Modigliani or Baudelaire,I'd get down on my knees, but...you're not.Maybe someday we can continue this conversation over a couple of beers.
No problem! And thanks for the nice words about On Elvis Presley's Birthday. If you're from Spain all is forgiven because I really love Spain and Spanish audiences are the best in the world. Puta Madre! Hope to see you next time I'm there. Come backstage and say hello and let's have a laugh.
WOW! I didn't think I was so important! You're right, I need a good dictionary, but I'm from Spain and not a poet like you, so forgive me for my sins.
Durand is good, but I don't think Hendrix smiles when he plays the blues, like you wrote somewhere. And... yes, "On Elvis Presley's Birthday" is a good one :-)
Never wannabe Bob Dylan or Bruce Springsteen. Only hope was that I was gonnabe judged on my own 29 albums. Sadly, I believe its literally impossible to be both pathetic and mediocre at the same time - better get out that dusty dictionary ... sir! ... and I only hope that someday I will record something that pleases you. PS: Any praise for this 10 year old home video belongs to my guitarist Olivier Durand whose performance is quite extraordinary in my own humble opinion ... man.
If you're Elliott Murphy himself, I would like to ask you if there are any possibilities of "Aquashow" and "Just a story from America" being reissued. I know little about your early stuff (except "Lost Generation" and "Night Lights", which are great) and I'm really interested in discovering it, but I can't find it anywhere.
OK, maybe he's not pathetic: He is simply a mediocre songwriter, but his "accursed poet" pose is ridiculous to say the least. I don't want to offend anyone. Just my opinion, man.
