well i have been alarmed about the debt for a ong time, glad it is becoming fashionable at last. note the foreign held part of the debt is about 20% of it i think. most of it is held domestically by wealthy americans who collect interest on a risk-free loan. even so, the fact that all the income tax collected west of the mississippi goes to inerest payments is sobering.

Our government has no intention of paying off the debt. They will keep borrowing money so they can keep funding bullshit programs like "Cash for Clunkers" to make it seem like they are helping people, and transfer more debt to our children. We are already paying 500 million daily and that is only going to go up...we are being sucked into a black hole from which we will never recover...unless we demand a president that will stop giving out handouts and force americans to work.

The Chinese now familiar complaint that the greenback needs to be replaced as the world's de facto reserve currency is very bad news for America. China usually suggests some "supranational" currency as a dollar substitute, to protect it against instability that could arise from any one country's errant economic policies.
