Great idea using strawberry containers I was looking around for things to use but did not think of that one it will be perfect , thanks my Conure will love it !
Cool, it is great that you are feeding your birds natural food. I think I will grow the shoots with the first method for my cockatiel, he loves chewing on all sorts of leaves!
@TheBookr You can plant ANY of the bird seed you feed your bird. You can also grow it in the ground over spring/summer and it will grow fresh whole grass seeds - like millet sprays. You might also be able to find fresh grass seeds growing in your neighbourhood if you know what to look for. I have a video on that too. Also, you might be interested in sprouting bird seed (not in dirt) as it is much better for your bird than dry seed. Ill send you a message with the videos to watch!
@sportsgirl4444 I would be very careful about potting mix. I will use very old potting mix, or soil from the garden instead - because in most new potting mixes, there is a high amount of fertilisers and all kinds of chemicals which could be dangerous... especially those little round fertiliser pellets - they look like seeds and the birds will go straight for them.
What a great video!! Very useful and helpful and smart!!! Thank you! I plan on doing this!! really great ideas and so healthy and fun for your birds!!! Cool!! 5*!!! :)
i am very much the same. i have been breeding birds all my life and i also have a tame cockatiel.
i too am also interested in keeping a good diet for my aussie outback birds. it is pleasing to see that there are some people do feed their birds a good selection of native grass shoots rather than just commercialised pellets and seed mixes.
thanks! yes my birds do get a variety...my boyfriend gets the shits cos of all the food i give them! he can deal with it, cos ill always be giving my birds the best!
Im glad you enjoyed it! Ever since the first time i gave my first budgie a native plant, i have been interested in the different kinds of foods i can give my birds, and then i found out about "environment enrichment" and now im always looking for more ways to enhance their lives and keep them mentally and physically active. its so rewarding to watch happy parrots, i feel like im the lucky one!

If you are going to get a galah you should consider rehoming an older galah - they live 80 - 100 years. they quite often outlive their owners. Everyone wants baby parrots for cuteness and easy taming, but by getting a rehomed bird you might get a very tame bird, or else be giving it a way better life if it was just ignored in a cage for years. You can teach old birds new tricks!
Plus if you get an older bird you wont have to go through the hormonal teenage years - sometimes this is quite testing for bird owners - i should know, my male cockatiel is a hormonal shit right now!
i grow cilantro from seeds on my window sill every summer and my keets devour it!! i read it has antibacterial properties. do you think they would like cilantro that has gone to seed?
It is certainly worth giving to them, they may like the flowers as well as the seedpods. My friend has it going to seed in his garden and lately i have taken some for the budgies - they liked it... but they didnt think much of the seeding basil!
You could even use the above video idea for shooting cilantro in mini containers all year round... they just need moisture and some warmth.
We can use any bird seed we get from the store?
