Skyliner747 Everytime Every time I've come back to your video it takes me right back to the TWA that was the envy of the industry not only for what it had achieved but for its history. No need to apologize for the "rain drops" I see them as tears from heaven of what once was, together with Pan Am without a doubt we are the two greatest Airlines in United States History before the industry became Greyhound!
I wish I was going back to MCI/Breech Academy tomorrow for recurrent training in a minute!
TWA might be gone, but at least the Saarinen Terminal is still here. I'm so glad that JetBlue chose to go the route of restoring the terminal, and not destroy a piece of aviation history (like Delta).
@upiluften You get the modern T5 than you wait to be picked up infront of that beautiful Saarinen terminal. Its a beautiful sight, even now. I also do wish that delta could keep the worldport but be glad one iconic terminal is surviving
@anthony2154 Of course I'm thankful.. I mean B6 agreed to renovate a terminal that won't really generate any revenue. In the industry, that's unheard of. Can't wait to fly with them to New York. It'll be my first stop.
@upiluften YEA! i've flown into T5 a countless bunch of times. when you come out of baggage claim for curbside pickup, you're standing right infront of it! its beautiful
@upiluften To be honest, ive heard they have opened it to the public a couple of times, once in october. I really dont know when it will be reopened. i hope it will be though
@anthony2154 I heard about that! OHNY or something.. the pictures are beautiful, all the old signage and fixtures (that timetable!!) are still up. It's like a time machine, literally.
@upiluften u know i really miss the days of seeing the triholers and classic 747's ruled the sky. While i think delta should save the worldport, i just think the worldport should be saved and not that 70's addon.
@anthony2154 Me, too. Triholers are beautiful. I spotted a CO (!) DC-10 (!) while watching The Shining, and geeked out. I think I've only flown on one tri-jet my whole life, a Hawaiian DC-10. I remember thinking the third engine looked goofy.
I want the Worldport to be saved, but it's just not as historically/architecturally significant as T5. And the way it's positioned at JFK makes it harder for it to be built around. =/ It's a pity it'll become a cement slab. For parking planes.
"No other job has felt like I belonged", wow that is how I feel and have felt since TWA was bought by American and I got laid off. I worked EWR, met inbounds and then baggage service. I even miss the irates.
This is such a great video! I will never ever forget my trip on TWA through JFK in October 1989. DTW-JFK-AMS-HAM and return. My first and only trips on the L1011 and 727-100 series. The fall of some of our great airlines is such a tragedy.
Hi FELLOW TWA'ers.... As an X-TWA employee (LAX), here is a link to a yahoo groups website dedicated to the employees of TWA, live talk, comments, photo's, emails, etc. ENJOY. It's 100% free. Just keep in touch and share photo's, video's and stories.Dave
No airline will ever match the professionalism and family ties as TWA did/does. Working at Hgr 12 and Term from 87-98 {Then i went to the Motherland at MCI for job security LOl} It was actually fun going to work and the interaction with the Flight and Cabin crews, plus you never knew who you would rub shoulders with on a last minute gate call. Now another chapter is closing on TWA as MCI is shuddered NYC here we come, won't match what TWA was that's for sure!!! Just a job now.
this is by far the best video of twa i have seen online. i worked in that building for years and it just briught back wonderful memories. the planes the jetways the flight wings its all like i remember it. thanks for the walk down trans world past.
I am a former TWA F/A , hired in 1990 and I left in 1992. This video, and the choice of song really touched me, I miss you and will always love you TWA! Thank you for some of the best moments of my life TWA. Skyliner747-beautiful job! Thanks so much!
Man, the airports looked better with 727s and L-1011s ..... more diversity! Nowadays is just throwing blended winglets onto everything. (i know it saves fuel consumption) but in my opinion they only look good on the 737s. More airline diversity too.... Tired of these damn mergers! I liked the paint schemes of airlines in the 80s and 90s.
Nice video! Those 747s are just gorgeous aircraft.Especially those 100s.lots of history on those birds, and there are only a handfull of them left today.Found a few of these former TWA ladies are still going strong with the Iran Air Force today.I only got around to flying KLM's 747s a few times, but I would have loved to have flown these classics....
Great video! It brought a few tears to my eyes. Reminds me of the days when I used to shadow my dad at work at LAX back in the 70's. He was a CSA and I would go to work with him and watch the planes take off and land. I also worked for TWA for 15 years in LAX reservations.
they should bring back just anyone being allowed to go past the metal detectors and security checkpoints. i only flew once pre-9/11, and that was before i even turned 1.
Do you keep in touch with Kaye Chandler? She has lots of great things posted, I never knew her well, she was one of the more seniors in international when I came onboard! Again, about the audio, was it copyright or AA objecting at the content? Any way keep up the great work, memories most be preserved, good airlines never die and TWA & PanAm will always be the premier international carriers of the US for all times, when travel was travel, not cattle runs!
AMR/AA has a problem with the audio track? Because we can all say how DISHONEST & DESPICABLE American has behaved in the ACQUISITION they sugar coded as MERGER! AA Flight Attendant Union APFA made a sweet deal with TW Flight Attendant Union IAM so that TW personal will end up at the bottom of AA seniority list! Results, they took advantage of 9/11 to speed up the plan! Slow business, NO, AA Flight Crews overworked for over 5 years so TW looses recall rights! Hell waits for AA!
thank youfor your reply. TWA was trulya whole culture. i'm happy for you that you still have your dad, i still miss mine. givke your dad an extra hug, from me.
My dad flew for TWA since 1990, making it up to F/O on the 757/767. He's now at JetBlue as an A320 F/O on furlough from AA since 2003. We all miss that airline =[[
Great video! I only flew on TWA once (SJU to JFK) so I had the chance to see the beautiful JFK TWA terminal. Most of the great airlines are gone now. :(
I have such fond memories of TWA. It was my preferred airline and I flew it for over a dozen years between LAX and JFK. I took my very first trip to Europe on TWA, and my first (and only) time on a 747SP was a TWA flight from Rome to Boston. I thought Saarinen's Terminal 5 at JFK was one of the best pieces of airport architecture ever made; inside it you couldn't help but want to fly. What a beautiful and moving tribute to a bygone time and to truly one of the greatest airlines in the world.
Why did TWA and Pan Am never renew their long haul fleets? It's something that's always confused me. They couldn't have been that bankrupt during the 70's and 80's as they were the foremost carriers in the world!
My god has it been that lonog????? OH MY!!! I was a FSM/Purser based at JFK-1 and loved my job with TWA. JFK was a great base! LONG LIVE TWA and JFK!!! Great video btw!! ANyone going to the JFK family reunion???
My sister worked for TWA for over 20 years, she died 4 years ago. This was a wonderful tape it brought back a lot of memories that she shared with me when she was alive. Thanks for taking the time to post it. Also the songs are very appropiate.
Wow. The great era of TWA, and the pre-9/11 days when you could enter the terminal without a ticket and watch the planes dock at the gates. I miss these days and sadly we may never get to experience them again, as long as the bureaucratic nightmare known as the TSA remains in existence. Great video and music!
It was a great airline, its a shame to see it go. It brought glamor to air travel. It was loved by many and it will truly be missed. Goodbye Trans world Airlines. I will miss you.
I worked at Hangar 12 and at the Jfk termial for a total of 16 years! I made the mistake of taking a buy-out when Ichan took over, I wish I could have it all back, no other job has felt like I belonged! TWA was the greatest and still is in my mind!
Great video. What a shame such an amazing airline is history. I have to say though, it's the first time I've ever seen a jetway hooked up to the right side of the plane. Thanks for the memories!
Great video brings tears to my eyes, I worked right there from 1987 to 1997 best years of my life. I miss it so much, it hurts. The best job I ever had, hands down. I wish I could have those years back with eveyone. It hurts. love John.
I work on the Twa hangar at LGA(Biggest hangars in the world when they were built back in 1935 by the way)There's still some memorabilia lying around, baggage carts, GSE equiptment AA never bothered to paint blue. The only reason that stuff didn't get thrown away, was due to the fact that all of us working there have so much respect/admiration for it.If it had been any other airline it would've been thrown out 7 years ago.
A simulator was made out of the cockpit of that L1011 I heard.
I would love to get a copy of this video. My father was an aircraft inspector at hanger 12for 40 years. I would love to play this at his birthday party in 3 weeks. I am willing to pay any costs you may incur. Please contact me!
American Airlines sucks, today I read the news about this poor woman who needs oxygen and the flight attendant refused twice of giving her oxygen, until the passengers demanded that she be helped, the attendant went got the oxygen tanks, guess what? they both were mt. Poor woman dies, flight attendants took the body cover with a blanket into first class and flew all the way to New York, didnt stop at Miami.but flew all the way to New York. I hope AA get sued out of business. Bring back TWA!!!
Were u a mechanic at TWA?I work with a lot of A&P's that worked in Hangar 12.They always have the most interesting stories, maybe u might know some of them...
Thanks for the comments .... yes, the 747 halfway through the video is indeed a 747-131 series. N93108 / TWA Fleet number 17108 arrived in mid 1970, and flew with TWA her entire career. She operated one of TWA's last 747 flights in February of 1998. 17108 was also the first 747 painted in the new 1990s colors, and appeared in many TWA promotional shots, advertisements, and promotional material.
Breech Academy in MCI, my base JFK terminal # 5 & later we added "The Symphony" # 6 when PA & NA merged good all Hangar 12 and the unity we all felt to be a part of a great airline, TWA nothing but the best!
@Skyliner747 NA was North American, National Airlines was YJ every time I had ID/75 or ID90 issue on them to go down to Florida always made the same mistake, talk about flashbacks?
Maybe mother nature was tearing because it knows within six years, this great airline will cease to exist. Five stars for this video, notice the rain drops(makes me want to cry).
yeah, many witnesses reported that they seen something shoot up at TWA Flight 800 before it blown-up. Is AA behind this, since monopoly laws were laxed thanks to the greedy politicians taking brides. Corporations will use any means to dominate the business world when theres no restrictions to their size. Bring back the Anti-Trust Monopoly laws!!!!
I was bought bt American AIrlines in 2001 and ceased operations on November 30, 2001 and the last flight was a flight from Kansas City to St. Louis on a 727.TWA suffered greatly after the TWA flight 800 disaster and that eventually led to it's demise.A great airline which is missed greatly.
THis video makes me almost ready to cry out loud. As someone who lives in St. Louis, I remember as a little kid going out to the airport and watching scenes like this...the JFK scene with TWA I only could've dreamed of seeing. There will never be another airline like TWA again.
i also live in STL and i to watched TWA take off and land in the LAMBERT HUB the airport has lost its soul and just doesn't feel the same as when TWA was there dominating the sky's its a sad feeling flying out of STL without TWA to take you where you wanted to go and always on time LONG LIVE TWA The Worlds Airline
I worked at JFK for TWA from 89 to 2001. Those memories are perfectly captured in this video. I might even be in it someplace. I worked as a mechanic, and it was the greatest job I ever had. Salutations to all my fellow TWA'ers!
thanks to those evil bastards that caused distruction on 9-11 we have now lost one of the worlds oldest airlines - TWA was at the forefront of aviation for so many years - now swollowed by the AA brand into a false american airline with no class or culture! god bless all of you who worked for TWA - you guys all deserved better treatmeant from that giant AA!! Fly forever in your hearts as you touched so many without even knowing it! xx
After TWA, commercial aviation was never the same. Now there was a company Im sure you could be proud of working for.I was a kid in 92,everytime I saw those birds at Terminal 5 I imagined that once I got my A&P I would make a great addition to their force, really did. Makes me sad....lol.
All these L1011's and 727's seemed so common back then as if they whould stay forever... I miss those threeholers and regret that I did not ride them more often.
WOW!!! I was based at JFK with TWA from 1977 to 2000. I flew international! What memories! It brought tears to my eyes seeing the ol' L-10's. They were my fav a/c. I miss TWA!
This is a great video and brought back wonderful memories of my time in JFK and all my friends and true love we had for each other and OUR AIRLINE --- TWA will always be our EMPLOYEE OWNED AIRLINE, no matter who took us over -- OUR HEARTS BELONG TO TWA ALWAYS!
I'm 24 now, my dad used to work for TWA in MADRID, Spain. Since I was a kid, I wanted to be a TWA Flight Attendant, I have lots of TWA stuff but it's very hard to find videos like this one.
This video brought tears to my eyes. The employees were what made TWA, nothing can ever compare to that wonderful experience. Still working, but for that other carrier :-(
Thanks for the memories, my dad retired unfortunately under the name of AA instead of TWA, but to me he retired TWA, funny thing is he started with TWA during their transition from props to jet and now that he's retired, the last I heard he tinkering with props again, miss the friendly skies and the great people! TWA was a "family" regardless which airport they worked now that I think about it, the "red eye" flights and the great jets (L1011, 727, 707, etc) went when TWA went.
TWA was a golbal company that represented the US in the best of ways (well.. until Carl Ican!!). From paper uniforms inthe 60's, 747 Upper Deck lounges, a bevy of beauties serving the hollywood elite and all those LONG layovers...
Long live the memories of a great American Icon of the Skies, TWA!!
my husband worked for twa from 1990 to the end he was in charge of trans world one at kennedy we had some great times there and made so many friends there will never be a great place like twa to work for ever again not even american
My dad started working for TWA in 1939, he went to war, and continued to work for them. He was a mechanic at Newark, in fact he worked there all his life, he is 91 years old now. I think of all the traveling I did, even went to Kenya and Tanzania back in the 70's. Thanks TWA, for my dad's good fortune of working for such a great company and all the traveling our family experienced.
twa was a great work experience (87-2001)traveled on many airline but twa was the best even though I worked there.met many people whom i am friends with today and learned a lot, God bless your dad.
Very nice video. My mother worked for TWA from the late 80's up until the end. I grew up with this airline and the workers at JFK were like a second family to me. Lots of good memories there; one of them being serving pizza to the Desert Storm troops when they returned home being. I never had a bad flight out of the 100's I'd taken with them. And of course, the building was awesome.
TWA will never be forgotten. When you mention "TWA" faces light up...it doesn't matter if they worked there or flew with us, everyone has good memories. By far, they were the best airline ever and the people that worked there were the best too!
Worked for TWA 28 years....wonderful times..great pioneering airline...will miss those days forever..may Carl Icahn burn in Hell for destroying it and American Airlines for treating the ex-TWA employees like dirt.....
I was hired in oct 89. furloughed in 91. Still have a wonderful place in my heart for TWA and the friends I made and still have. Thanks for memories of this part of my life.
I have really enjoyed this video. Only flew once out of the JFK terminal on TWA but it was oh so memorable. The red tube! I remember it so well. Sadly, shooting videos like this at an airport today could get you written up by the TSA. Just one more benefit of the Bush-Cheney cabal. Beautiful stuff like this gets lost.
thanks alot for sharing, brought back the memories of those awesome red and white stripes. i could still kick myself for only having flown them once (ord-stl). gee, i miss twa
Great video thanks for sharing! My only L1011 flights were with TWA in 1989. I was fortunate to connect through JFK in the TWA terminal on the way to Amsterdam and Hamburg. I wont get that chance again.
Great footage. Gave me goose bumps just thinking about the wonderful memories. No matter what job I have or ever will have, nothing will compare to the memories of working for TWA at JFK during the late 80's through the late 90's.
NIIIIIIICEEE I miss and love TWA so MUCH this went wel with the song "Far Away" by Nickleback. I almost cried watching this, Fucking American Airlines forced a merger and put em under chapter 11, I loved the L 1011 Tristar so fckin much, If i open an airline, I'd go crazy if I cant buy one at least from ATA, and Ughhhh I loved the majestic view of the 727's
Skyliner747 Everytime Every time I've come back to your video it takes me right back to the TWA that was the envy of the industry not only for what it had achieved but for its history.

Good Video. Keep the history running, one of the backbones TWA was for american/intentional avation, that we may sometimes take for granted.
BTW: what is this song called? Matches it perfectly

Is that a skyliner747 a 100 series?
pcmiler2000 4 years ago
Thanks for the comments .... yes, the 747 halfway through the video is indeed a 747-131 series. N93108 / TWA Fleet number 17108 arrived in mid 1970, and flew with TWA her entire career. She operated one of TWA's last 747 flights in February of 1998. 17108 was also the first 747 painted in the new 1990s colors, and appeared in many TWA promotional shots, advertisements, and promotional material.

was also painted in the new twa colours

pcmiler2000 4 years ago
yeah, many witnesses reported that they seen something shoot up at TWA Flight 800 before it blown-up.

Speedbird1234 4 years ago
THis video makes me almost ready to cry out loud. As someone who lives in St. Louis, I remember as a little kid going out to the airport and watching scenes like this...the JFK scene with TWA I only could've dreamed of seeing. There will never be another airline like TWA again.
