Beautiful throw. Good technique and well timed. Forced his opponent to land badly and I think he crushed the guys wind pipe in the process when he landed on him. Awsome Technical Knock Out. Its a technical one because the loser was still concious when the fight ended.
@pshieldsy Why would you have concussion or braindamage before the FIGHT? lol... wouldn't you get your self checked out before you inter the cage? It's just stupid...
@DiigitalX Ohhh, right, before the fight. Well, there is always the possibility of PEDs which would also affect pupil dilation. Also, one of the guys at my gym got knocked out in training and fought a week later, which was really not a great idea, as he then got knocked out from just a jab in the first round.
Helio gracie had a good defence against being thrown by judo players... and that was simply to let your body go limp and mess around with your own center of gravity
@dacreeguy I'm not trying to troll or anything but if you watch Helio Gracie vs Masahiko Kimura (a judoka) you"ll see Kimura throw Helio twice. I do agree with your statement however about going limp. Thats the best way to avoid being thrown, make the other guy use his strength to move you.
now a question to all the judo practitioners. if you were the fellow who had the double underhooks, what would you NOT have done so you wouldn't have gotten thrown like that.
@piggypoo You would try to block with your hips and maybe take him backwards, but stuff like that is hard to see coming and hard to stop if your against someone good.
Awesome throw, but rather crappy "KO", dude giving up just like that. Maybe he got his breath knocked out and panicked or something. Oh well. Why is the audio mono?
@tinbergjames Yep, you're right. I remember this. It was after he had back surgery, which obviously didn't hold up very well. I was a good throw though.
When I was a kid I thought judo was rubbish. But it's really grown on me and I think it's an amazing skill and is very helpful in mma. And a street fight aswell
@378Daniel I have the exact same thing, i used to do it until i was 12, tought it sucked, now got into mma in 2010 and now going back to my old gym next monday I just started to love all forms of grappling period^^
if you thought it sucked (no offense) maybe it was the school that sucked? You should consider finding a better dojo that you would enjoy more. When I was a kid the Sensei's would be very 1 on 1 with you and caring of their students. We played fun games at ends of classes. And they made sure to always get us into tournaments and compete which was the most fun part......
When you were a kid you should have gone to a Judo class and found out for yourself. If you went to the best dojo in your area with the local champs you'd have gotten your ass kicked. Came home bruised, scratched, rashes from the Gi being pulled all over your neck. You'd get literally thrown over peoples heads and choked unconscious like I was (well maybe not choked as a kid). And you would have loved it because you'd feel yourself getting stronger. I guarantee that.
Joe tried to use brute strength to get separation. Devela wisely switched from double underhooks to what wrestlers call an "over under." With an over under its a lot easier to control a much bigger guy. Riggs was basically hanging on for dear life and walked right into it. Thats why it ended up being so bad.
Riggs is a striker and BJJ guy. A wrestler would have put up a serious defense
ive just achieved my first dan in judo. and that is plain and simple harai goshi. the leg doesn't have to come up miles for it to be harai. look at nagi no kata there is only a flick on the leg there
@maxree10 nobody says that. it's very good for mma, the only trouble is doing some of the throws cuz of there being no gi. and this throw wasn't "lethal". painful? very! lol
@enkhbattsenguun along time ago it was special mats But they changed that along time ago to much harder mats which is used today in strikeforce/ufc so ya Some Nasty back injuries
I hate people trying to act smart on youtube, I've done Judo for years and I'm currently a brown belt (1st Kyu) And this was a perfect example of a Harai-Goshi, one of my favorite throws.
Now imagine a well executed Judo throw like this or any other for that matter, done to a clawed assailant, which adds more impetus and momentum, and on concrete, side walk, stairs, ash-fault! It could wind up being fatal for the receiver. A fast, intense, powerful Judo throw on the street, especially landing on any of your shoulders, head, back could easily cause a concussion, paralysis or even death. A skilled throw can come explosively out of nowhere surprisingly.
@eddit Some would say that to "explode into it" would be a waste of energy. Clearly, the technique was effective & all that was needed. Judo is called the "gentle way" due to it's philosophy of restraint & avoiding excessive force which may risk unnecessary injury, or even death.

The big masters of Judo knew everything about jiu jitsu too, much more than the Gracie´s (sucks).
Because of the position I feel this is not harai goshi but rather harai makikomi. He began the wind with his hip forced only because of the lock, then he (went with the fall), sutemi waza, for that superior position. His pull and kuzushi began with an over the arm lock as well which further makes me feel this was harai makikomi or in jujitsu soto makikomi. I do not like MMA, many fighters intend to injure the opponent and are very dishonorable. Cory Devela however shows that grace is superior.
@ForwardsAbsolutely mma has pretty much become a breeding ground for douchebags but there are still many fighters who fight honorably for sport and not just brawl for their bro's to admire

Its a modified Harai Gashi, where instead of throwing from the inside with his leg he did it in that situation from the outside....almost like a osoto gari, but with enough hip movement and position to be a type of Harai Gashi=NICE
HARAI GOSHI - sweeping hip throw. not uchi mata(inner thight throw) not ippon or moroto seio nage (you dont sweep with either, feet together lift with the knee's) and definately worth an ippon!
@rabidlama in harai goshi it is a hip throw, hence goshi and the foot is just a guide for projecting power of throw. the foot those not sweep the legs but i am sure you know this.
@rabidlama in harai goshi it is a hip throw, hence goshi (Sweeping Hip Throw) and the foot is just a guide for projecting power of throw. the foot those not sweep the legs but i am sure you know this. if not it would be an ashi-guruma (Foot Wheel) or an soto-makikomi (outer wrapping around throw), we called it a tornado in our club because once you got caught it was hopeless and only destruction followed. japan judo, japan judo workshop, Sensia Shiina 8th dann Sensia Julio Hernandez. Thank you.
@lallope harai goshi (sweeping hip throw) you do sweep with the leg, after lifting in an o goshi type throw - harai (sweeping) goshi (hip throw) .ashi guruma is not a hip throw, its similar to tai otoshi only with foot raised slightly. and is nothing like soto makikomi, which is a sacrificial throw , but I am sure you knew this?..? in our club we call it by its name so people know what you are talking about...
