I saw this great film when it was first released at the Rancho Drive-In, San Diego. Loved the music, loved the feel of the movie, the premise got under your skin because of the times. Kissing Sam Arkoff's feet for being the great American Ineternational Pictures president who gave us this legendary cinema experience. AIP Rules!

But Woods couldn't stay sober, and ended up being fired from the corporation that might not have been created but for his help.
This movie was a reaction to the youth movements of the 60s.

You want a classic movie of the era, try looking at the stuff from intellectuals instead of this propaganda bull crap....stuff like the Holy Mountain... or Head, which amazingly points out all of these movies and the industry that made for what it was, exploitative and devoid of thought....now Head is a quintessential 60s movie....an amazing critique of post-industrial capitalism and its commodification of everything.
This movie is nothing but another ridiculous propaganda film meant to demonize marijuana and psychedelics because of a minority, and yes, the counterculture was a minority! Do not forget that! ...a minority that behaved ridiculously whilst using them. Shit like this is an attack on science and decency. Hollywood exploited the counterculture whilst simultaneously spreading lies, and in 1971 the biggest attack in history on free, scientific progress came with the Drug Scheduling Act.
This cat, Chris Jones is a James Dean Doppelganger. I got interested in him when I read that Paramount anted him to play Michael Corleone way back when. And if you read the novel, he resembles the character more than Pacino.
